Discussion This is a disaster waiting to happen.

The dog isn’t allowed to be around a toddler because he growls at her. I don’t get it. A family dog is supposed to get along with the whole family. Why are the parents concerned about why the dog “doesn’t like her”? What about the child’s safety?

I worked with rescue dogs and that family is putting their child in danger!!!! I pray they have found that dog a child free home. I had two dogs for over a decade that could not be anywhere near children. It takes a very responsible dog owner to own a dog like that. I understood their nature and knew I couldn't change it.

a child-free home won't prevent that thing from mauling someone else's child

Exactly, it's really just a time bomb and given the slightest opportunity they will get a child. Saw a post about a neighbor's dog jumping the fence and biting the kid bad.

Exactly. This gets fucking exhausting. Just euthanize them. Why put everyone else at risk?

Nah, there has to BE a better solution for a dog this ready to maul a kid

There is but people get all uppity about it. Just kill the aggressive animal - it cannot be trusted around children. Ever. There is no guarantee that a child will not be harmed even with training, barriers and a child free home so the only solution is to euthanise the animal

I should have specified, "a child free home with an experienced and educated owner". The owner must not be delusional about the breed. Unfortunately many people are. Otherwise, yes, this dog is far too dangerous to have as a pet. Few people can responsibly own a pet like this. I would advise these people to reach out to a bully breed rescue that accesses behavior and temperament. Not all rescues do. There are a few in Florida that network with others in the country. A good bully rescuer group will access the dog and determine where it will be most safe. Bully owners often don't want to know the truth about these breeds. The truth is that thousands of years of breeding cannot be changed with snuggles and treats. Their brain chemistry is set by design. One of my special circumstances dogs was a shepherd wolf mix that was set to be put down. She had been rejected by the police units and every rescue in the area. My other was a shepherd chow mix I raised from 12 weeks old. Neither could be trusted near children despite all of the love and training I gave them. They were hard wired hunters. Around adults and other dogs they behaved like friendly silly puppies. They even got along well with my six cats. People need to stop trying to change the nature of a dog to suit their environment. It will never work.
