Discussion This is a disaster waiting to happen.

The dog isn’t allowed to be around a toddler because he growls at her. I don’t get it. A family dog is supposed to get along with the whole family. Why are the parents concerned about why the dog “doesn’t like her”? What about the child’s safety?

Most pitbull owners are pretty stupid

Not all pittie owners, but those dogs attract a very specific kind of personality to them because of their reputation, and the people attracted because of that are usually fucking idiots.

Edit: officially my most downvoted comment!

Everyone is always the exception until they watch their decision rip a child’s face off

I've met several pitbulls that I trusted even though I was nearly mauled to death by a dog as a toddler. Phatboy, who was a sweetheart to the point that he could be 100% locked in on roughhousing but would relax as soon as he heard 'all done' from me when I'd had enough; Princess, a pitbull rottie mix who came in to the grooming salon I worked at(it was a partially failed attempt at getting over my fear of dogs) for a nail trim for the first time in her 2 years of life but was an angel; and Ditty, an overeager, untrained ball of energy who won me over by being determined to sleep next to me whenever I'd stay over at her home when I was a kid. If I scooted away, she'd wait a bit before scooting after me, never facing me, and always between me and the rest of the room.

To be honest, working in a grooming salon had caused me to be more wary of random shih tzus, yorkies, and doodles than bully breeds. Those things will rip you up in a heartbeat, while the pitbulls are largely friendly, and the unfriendly ones usually give you plenty of warning that they don't like what you're doing so you have the opportunity to muzzle them first.

Not all, just the ones we hear about most often.

Simply wanting a dog like this is enough of a red flag, its not cute, its not cuddly, its been bred to be a weapon, and its attractive to people who want to be seen as having a weapon. IE: morons.

From Bearnese mountain dogs to Irish Wolfhounds there are plenty of large dogs that have an excellent temprement for being a pet, you can walk them in the park, take them to the pub, let them run around in the woods and not have to be anymore alert around vunerable people that you would with a smaller dog.

Pitbulls aren't pets.

I'll push back on that. Some people want to rescue pitbulls because they have been dumped by people who didn't understand or respect the breed for what it is. I'm not going to debate temperament. I think there is enough out there for people to make informed choices, but many don't, and so we have a lot of people trying to rescue pitbulls. I think that's admirable if they are responsible.

Tried but good people rescue tigers, that’s doesn’t make them less dangerous, in fact a mistreated one is probably more dangerous.

I aren’t blaming the pit bulls, they have been intentionally bred for aggressive traits by humans, it’s just doing what’s in its nature, you can say they are unsuitable to be pets though, they weren’t meant to be pets, that’s our fault for making them that way.

People can be dumb, I saw a doc about people getting half wolf hybrids and wondering why they were… well, fucking wild animals.

Most people are stupid. What’s your point?

That pitt owners are mind bogglingly pig headed and willfully ignorant of the breeds statistics and characteristics.

You made it to however old you are not knowing that a strawman argument makes you look dumb as rocks

What are the stats on cata mauling humans?

I got a pitbull because I don’t see them as beings to care for and supervise. Actually they’re a glorified security guard for all the stuff I’ve hoarded in my home and carry the risk of assaulting a random animal or innocent child on our walks if left unsupervised. All pros to me.

Cat's are generally capable of killing children, so I fail to see your point?
