[Arabic below]

  1. Internal Security Forces arrested Khaldoun Hussein Mubarak, a colonel and pilot in the former regime’s army, following a carefully planned security raid on his hiding place in the Jableh countryside.

The military records of this arrested criminal show that he advanced to become a fighter pilot flying MiG-29 aircraft. He served for many years in Squadron 699, part of the 17th Brigade based at Al-Seen Military Airbase, and was promoted to colonel in 2023.

Investigations revealed that he was involved in serious violations and war crimes against civilians, carrying out numerous combat sorties across much of Syria, with a particular concentration in the north.

Information indicates that the arrested was wounded in 2020 when rebels targeted his aircraft in Idlib. After recovering, he resumed operations, which continued until the fall of the former regime.

  1. Brigadier General Jaber Mehrez Ibrahim was arrested following careful surveillance and monitoring. Under the former regime, he served as commander of the 138th Air Defense Brigade in the town of Saida.

Initial records and investigations indicate that Ibrahim was involved in issuing orders to kill and arrest people and suppress protesters. He also took part in military campaigns targeting villages and towns in eastern Daraa countryside, pursuing civilians and targeting their homes.

Investigations also indicate that he was directly responsible for the Saida Housing Complex massacre, in which approximately 120 people were killed. His name has also been linked to systematic arrests and torture affecting a large number of people from the province, including the child Hamza al-Khatib.

  1. Former Major Suleiman Ahmad Hasan, who served in the former regime’s Military Intelligence Directorate, was arrested. He headed the Investigations Section and later the Legal Affairs Section at Branch 248, and was directly responsible for central investigations into protest cases and files concerning the opposition and defecting officers during the years of the revolution.

  2. Former Major General Ahmad Mohammad Ismail, one of the most prominent commanders in the former regime’s Republican Guard, was arrested. He took part in leading attacks on Aleppo, Daraa, and eastern Ghouta.

  3. Five senior officers and commanders in the former regime’s air force were arrested: Major General Mohammad Fajr Ali; Brigadier General and pilot Abdullah Ali Mualla; Colonel and pilot Nidal Hussein Saleh; Colonel Mohammad Ali Salim; and Major and pilot Taleb Abdul Karim Hasan.

The arrested criminals were involved in planning, directing, and carrying out aerial bombardments and airstrikes that destroyed residential neighborhoods and infrastructure and forcibly displaced residents.

  1. Internal Security Forces in Tartus Province arrested former Major General Mohammad Ali Dargham, a prominent officer in the military establishment during the former regime.

The arrested officer’s military records show that he held several sensitive positions. He began as a platoon commander in the Defense Companies during the events in Hama Province in 1982. He later served as field commander of the 4th Division from 2009 to 2013, was then assigned as deputy commander of the 5th Division, and went on to command the 2nd Corps until late 2018.

  1. The Internal Security Command in Latakia arrested Major General Jalal Kamel Saqr, commander of the 18th Infantry Brigade under the ousted regime, who was implicated in war crimes and arbitrary arrests of civilians.

The arrested man also served as chief of staff and deputy commander of the 14th Division, then as its commander until mid-2016. He subsequently moved to the Operations Authority in Damascus, where he remained until his discharge on May 1, 2017.

  1. The Internal Security Command in Latakia Province, in cooperation with the Counterterrorism Department, arrested 11th Infantry Division commander Major General Haytham Suleiman Barakat and Brigadier General Marwan Suleiman Barakat.

Information confirms that Haytham Suleiman Barakat was involved in suppressing and arresting civilians, imposing extortion payments, and financial blackmail.

Information indicates that Marwan Suleiman Barakat was involved in military operations carried out by the 15th Infantry Brigade, part of the 5th Division, in Daraa Province, where he served as head of the Artillery Section from 2011 to 2019.

  1. Internal Security Forces announced the arrest of Hassan Khalaf al-Sajjan, of the Air Force Intelligence Branch in Daraa, who is accused of torturing and killing civilians during the years of the Syrian revolution.

Discussion why aren't there EV's in syria

from what i've seen they have good infrastructure for it, i.e. they have a lot of solar panels. yes the electricity goes out and they are still rationing the electricity, but they have the solar panels on a lottttt of the buildings in aleppo. they are ahead of us in the usa, we don't have solar panels on every building like in aleppo. so i'm wondering, why hasn't there been more of a push for EV's especially because there was an increase in gas and diesel prices and people in aleppo were protesting that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBX5sb6ZFSo i believe if there was a bigger push and some investments into syria they could really grow an EV market, they have some infrastructure in place. i don't know who owns or makes the solar panels though.

ASK SYRIA How do you get around financial transaction restrictions to Syria?

There is no public data on the global currency conversion of the Syrian Lira and I can't send money to Syria through Western Union online unless (I suppose) I go to WU personally to send cash.

What other ways do you use to send money to Syria?

Discussion New Syrian passport design

So, I'm getting my passport renewed right now and it's killing me that I'm going to have to be stuck with that navy blue paperweight for 6 more years. LIKE AT LEAST GIVE ME THE GREEN RESIGNED PASSPORT. Yeah, this was just a little rant lol. More importantly I hope the passport's mobility increases during the next couple of years. Some more visa-free/visa-on-arrival destinations would be nice.

ASK SYRIA Where do we find local Syrian engineering talent?

Before I joined the Syrian market, I used LinkedIn as my first instinct to post a job, but now it came to my understanding that people who live in Syria don’t use it much because of the restrictions.

When I posted on LinkedIn, most people were seeking an online job.

I tried some Facebook groups but they seem flooded with fake jobs (make money online fast) making my posts gets buried

I’m hiring network engineers for a governmental agency btw

ASK SYRIA Syrians, what do you think about Hatay? Do you think it should rejoin Syria?

Regarding Hatay, currently a part of Turkey, would you ne open to regaining it or annexing it? I'm aware of the 1930s dubious rigged referendum that took it away from Syria and I think it still annoys many Syrians. What do you think?

Discussion How is gaming in Syria?

Hey syrian gamers! A long time ago, I asked about gaming in Syria, and I have gotten great answers, I am curious about a couple more things, so this is why I am asking again.

My first question is about gaming cafes. I see gaming cafes are doing pretty good in Syria despite all of the hardships the country had.

I typically see on the Internet that football games video games get played, along with shooters and sometimes I see stuff like Gran Turismo or Need For Speed played in the cafes. Basically, I see sports, shooters and sometimes racing games being played there. Is it mostly like this?

Also, I heard that gaming has taken a huge hit back in the early- mid 2010s during the war-(understandable since during a war, I do not believe that gaming is priority), but some people say that people did play a little bit of video games back then like Red Alert or Need For Speed on LAN networks, if anybody knows anything about this, can you share it?

My last question, how do gaming cafes and gamers access blocked video games and how do blocked titles still become popular over there?

Thanks for your answers!!!

Art work & Photography High quality images of Syria?

Hi everyone, does anyone know where I can find high quality images (without any watermarks or restrictions on usage) of Syria from each governorate like Damascus, Daraa, Homs, etc.?

I'm currently working on a project that showcases the beauty of Syria. For the past 16 years we've been hearing negative things about Syria from the media and propagandist and I want to spread some positivity about Syria.

I would also love to share the end result once I put something together for those who are interested. If you're interested just DM me.

ASK SYRIA Recently traveled to Syria. Here's my experience.

Hi,

Arrived at Aleppo airport. They charged me $200 for visa on arrival and it is only for 15 days. There was no multi-entry option. It is possible to extend it for another month at 'Passports and Immigration' office. It didn't cost me anything to extend but your mileage may vary. They also asked for the address I will be staying and a phone number during visa issuance.

I got a sim at the airport. Esim didn't work so I had to get a physical sim.

I had to take a taxi to the inter city bus station at Ramouse(الراموسة). I was told that it costs about 2000 Syrian pounds but they charged me 3000. I knew they were overcharging but I didn't feel like walking. On the way back from Ramouse(الراموسة) to the airport, I only paid 1500. There are apps that you can call taxi with but they don't seem to come to the airport.

Even though many car rental companies advertise to be at the airport, there were none. I guess if you book a car, they meet you there.

Intercity buses are cheap. They are also fast so a good option to travel between major cities.

On the way out, I asked the immigration officer what happens if someone overstays. They said, you have to pay a penalty of 500SYP(less then $0.5) per day and it isn't an issue to overstay up to 30 days. You can just pay the fine and leave but if you go over 30 days there are more penalties. I didn't ask what they are but probably an entry ban.

Overall it was a fun trip and my only gripe is the visa cost. I can't image a family of five dropping $1000 just on fees. I hope they come up with some multi-year multi entry options.
