I’m moving to Amman from the US next summer to be near my father and will likely be staying for at least a year but likely for longer. I was wondering what the move would look like in its entirety specifically-

How much is considered a “good monthly income” in JD?
How much would the move cost? Furniture, setting up utilities and internet, average rent in more upscale neighborhoods, etc

Is there any way to lease a car? Or maybe a long term rental but with a decent price (nothing over 400JD per month)

يخاطب نيتشه الكائن الفارغ، المحروم حتى من رفاهية امتلاك جدول منظم، محذراً إياه من التوهم بأنه يملك أي تأثير على هذا العالم المترامية أطرافه ،المهم نمت وانا مش عارف متى نمت كأني دخلت بغيبوبة.
فجأة، فتحت عيني وتأملت العتمة المتداخلة مع الضوء وراء الشباك. أصابتني حالة من الازدواجية الإدراكية الشديدة، ترافقت مع شرقة بريقك قاسية من الفزع: هل هذا هو الشفق القادم بالليل؟ أم أنه الشروق الذي يبدأ فيه البشر العاديون حياتهم؟ ولأني كائن بلا التزامات، بلا هدف، وبلا أدنى معنى للوجود، كان عقلي يتناقش مع ذاته بكاريزما بائسة وكأنه يتفاوض على اتفاقية "سايكس بيكو" جديدة داخل الجمجمة.
مسكت التلفون الملقى بجانب شاحن خربان، وتطلعت بالشاشة المكسورة. كان مكتوب بخط عريض: 6:00. هنا تجلت أقصى درجات العبث؛ التلفون الغبي مش كاتب لي (AM) ولا (PM) واصلا لو كان كاتبهم انا ما بفرق بينهم بدي خمس دقايق عشان أعالج الموضوع، صرت أصفن بالشاشة كمنسيٍّ في الفضاء، مش عارف حتى يحدد موقعه من اليوم.
تمتمت لنفسي بصوت هادئ: "يا زلمة، شو بتفرق مع واحد مثلك؟ صبح ولا ليل، أنت بكل الأحوال خارج التغطية. الفشل المشفّر الحقيقي مش إنك تتأخر عن موعدك، الفشل هو إنك تكون فارغ لدرجة إنه اليوم كله يتشابه عندك، وتصير السادسة صباحاً والسادسة مساءً نفس الخيبة".
صفنت بالحيطان وأكلني الذهول؛ كيف يوصل الإنسان لهي الدرجة من التهميش الذاتي والسهو الوجودي؟ إنسان بكامل قواه العقلية، متخفف من كل البوصلات والمسؤوليات، ممتد في الفراغ بلا بوصلة ولا غاية تُذكر! قاعد بعتمة الغرفة مستسلم تماماً، بطلع على الشاشة ومستني المعجزة الإلهية تحكي له إذا هاد ليل ولا صبح! لا هدف، لا إنذار، ولا حتى أدنى شغف يدفع العقارب للتحرك، مجرد وجود هامشي فقد الصلة بالزمن، وصار يتفرج على حاله بغرابة ويحكي: "كيف انسلخت عن معاني الوجود حتى وصلت لهاد الفراغ الصامت؟".
بس مين أنا عشان أقيم هذا الفراغ؟ لعل أهم أسباب التخلف الوجودي هو إننا بنحاول نلاقي معنى لحياة إنسان مش عارف حتى يفرق بين الصبح والليل... فنرمي التلفون، ونرجع نغطي راسنا وننام.

قبل فترة الشركة الي بشتغل فيها روحتني بعد عناء سنين معاهم، قلت بما انها خربانه خربانه بطلع شمة هوا هيك. قلت اطلع على بلد في آسيا اغير جوا و بنفسي اطلع على الصين، تواصلت مع شخص بشتغل في شركة سياحة وسفر و قاللي انو بدها فيزا عشان تسافر و وحدة من المتطلبات انوا يكون عندك اثبات عمل و كشف حساب البنك. من ناحية كشف حساب البنك ما عندي مشكلة بس كيف بدي اجيب اثبات عمل؟ الشركة اعطتني شهادة خبرة اني قضيت معاهم وقت محدد، هل بقدر اقدمها بدل اثبات العامل؟ و اذا لا كيف بقدر اجيب طريقه عشان اسافر على بلد بدها فيزا اذا أنا عاطل عن العمل؟

I am doing a presentation on Aqaba for one of my courses at uni and though i had been there multiple times I was surprised I don't have good photos of the life scnene of Aqaba AT NIGHT. I would appreciate if anyone has photos that they could share with me, preferablly photos populated with people walking, talking etc. Some places I am thinking of are al ghandour beach, the souk near the beach, ayla, and maybe the Arab revolt plaza? but any other places are also welcome

Wadi Al Hasa is one of the water canyons in southern Jordan, but it is still much less known than Wadi Mujib.

I grew up in Ghor Al Safi, close to the wadi, and I’m also involved in local hiking experiences in the area, so I’m sharing this from a local perspective

The experience can change depending on water level, weather and the section you enter. In many parts you are walking directly through water, over wet rocks and between high canyon walls.

Before going, I would check four things:

• upstream rain and weather
• current water conditions
• footwear with good grip
• the exact access point and route

It can be a beautiful experience, especially for people traveling south through Jordan toward Karak, Dana, Petra or Wadi Rum.

If anyone here has already hiked Wadi Al Hasa, I would be interested to hear which section you did and what time of year you went.

Me and two friends from Amman have been building حزر فزر (HazerFazer) since August, and we just launched it. It's a team trivia game for when everyone's sitting together: family gatherings, a سهرة with friends, Ramadan nights.

How it works

- Put it on one screen (TV, laptop or tablet). It runs in the browser, so there's nothing to download.
- Split the room into two teams and pick 6 categories. You get a board of 36 questions, and harder questions are worth more points. Basically Jeopardy, in Arabic.

I’m looking for a practical solution for running there after work during winter. I commute by bus and there don’t seem to be lockers, so I’m not sure where to safely leave my work bag/clothes while running.
Do you know if there’s somewhere runners usually leave their stuff, or any workaround you use?

I’m looking for someone who enjoys horse riding and would like to join me regularly while I train my horses for endurance races.

I have the horses, so there’s no charge for riding. You’ll be riding and training alongside me on outdoor trails, mostly focusing on building the horses’ fitness and endurance through walking, trotting, and gradually increasing distance.

The only thing I’d ask is that we split the gas/transportation cost to get there.

You should already have some basic riding experience and be comfortable riding outdoors. You don’t need endurance racing experience, just someone reliable who enjoys horses, longer rides, and wants to improve along the way.
