Maybe a backup camera?

Isn't a law that all cars manufacturers after 2016 require backup cameras? Or am I just hallucinating?

Yes, but it's 2018 not 2016.

EDIT: to clarify, this is the law in the US and Canada, but not elsewhere.

EDIT 2: here is the worldwide laws from Wikipedia:

Country/Region Deadline for compliance Note
United States May 1, 2018 Required for all vehicles under 10,000 pounds
Canada May 1, 2018 Required for all vehicles under 10,000 pounds (4536 kg)
Japan May 1, 2022
European Union July 6, 2022 Reversing camera or detection system is required.
Australia November 1, 2025 All new vehicles made from existing models will be required since 1 November 2027.

It's the law in the EU. We, too, are civilised, just like big brother North America.

This feels like the rare example where US/Canada was ahead of the EU on safety laws.

It's been awhile but the USA/Canada led the way with lighting, 3rd brake light and Canada mandating daylight running lamps back in the 80s!
