I think there's room in the market for a back to basics car company that takes out all this bs, goes back to crank windows and all that crap and sells new vehicles for an affordable cost with a good warranty.

It would probably crush today.

Edit: I got like 400 responses saying "slate" ok I get it you can stop

Crank windows are more expensive to make than electric ones

Where do you get that from? No shot a crank + rack and pinion is more expensive than something electronically powered.

Its cheaper due to economies of scale. Their mass manufacture has made them cheaper to produce at volume compared to crank windows.

There's no way to verify your statement.

Logically speaking, the gear system used for crank windows are used for other things as well so it's not like these are premium materials.

Plus the prices of electronics have increased massively over the years, especially PCB's.

At this point its more expensive to spec them because less and less of them are made. It's one more part/parts that a manufacturer has to source, work into their supply train, and include in the assembly process. It's cheaper to standardize an option across all trim levels, than it is to have a single extra option for the base model.

As I mentioned these parts are not just used for manual car windows.

It's one more part/parts that a manufacturer has to source, work into their supply train, and include in the assembly process.

At the same time the electronic car window car components would be removed from this process so that's an offset.

It's cheaper to standardize an option across all trim levels, than it is to have a single extra option for the base model.

I agree with this as a concept of mass production overall but this is just one small part of the car and not a particularly expensive one at that. With the prices of electronic components increasing, it's more likely that a change would result in an overall price decrease.

It doesn't offset anything since a manufacture has to source them anyway for the higher trim levels, adding crank windows just means they have to source extra parts for that particular option on top of the power windows.

It all adds up at the volumes automakers produce, the car plant I work at produces over 2000 vehicles a day. Its may look like small for one single car trim, but at that volume its cheaper to just source one single powered window option for every car instead of having an extra crank window spec for just the base trim.
