Wait. Does Japan still use the Rising Sun flag?

It’s not looked upon well, this would be like Americans using confederate flag. Which people still use, especially in the South.

Confederate flag was created to represent the confederacy. Rising sun flag was just japan's flag for the better part of a century.

What? No it wasn't. The flag was first used in the 1870's, and was creates to represent the Japanese military invading and colonizing new territories. Why are you lying?

Actually a lot of Asians (especially outside of Japan), find the rising sun flag offensive, with its association to the imperial army and the invasions and atrocities that occurred during WW2, yes the flag was used before the war, but was associated heavily alongside the swastika during WW2. Which is why it is no longer really Japan’s primary flag now.

You calling it “just some flag” is not only inaccurate, but kinda dumbs down the reason others felt it was offensive.
