I swear Mamdani just doesn't understand that a politician actually helping their constituents is illegal in this country. At least I assume it is. I can't think of any other reason for things to be this bad.

I'm just imagining the absolute storm of garbage people trying their damnedest to snag him into some heavy corruption with bribes or otherwise trying to make sure he stops doing stuff that the average person would consider "good" so he'll fall in line.

I firmly believe that most politicians genuinely go into governance expecting that they'll be the exception to the rule of power corrupting. And then a system that grooms men and women to be the best friends and sycophants you've ever seen descend on them, and they've suddenly been corrupted a hundred different ways before they even realize they've committed a crime. And now they're incentivized to not ruin their lives, and now people have leverage on them. And the only way to win that game is to become the person who holds the leverage.

Unless you refuse to play: public pressure, a base that isn't donor-dependent, and transparency. It's the only way this system works for the people. So of course [those who profit from that game] hate Mamdani. If he didn't have enemies, he'd just be another piece.

The only way to stay above it is to remain hyper clean. The moment you slip once they got you.

Or just fuckin own your mistakes so they can't control you

This is probably the right answer, but they attacked Harris for her laugh and Obama for his tan suit, if they got anything mildly incriminating your voters will eat that up. If tomorrow it is revealed mamdani committed minor tax evasion once in 2008, no matter how little that actually matters for his capacity now, they will use it to prove his untrustworthyness.

See, I'm too hard to bribe...buit too easy to blackmail

Please do not vote for me. I will not help you, and I will not get rich.

It's a lose-lose situation.

Honestly, I'm excited for more millennial and gen z peeps getting into power. We aren't ashamed of eff all and blackmailing us is damn near impossible. Yeah bitch, that was me behind the Wendy's dumpster snorting 8 balls, eating chicken nuggies, in a Pickachu onsie, high as a mother f@cking kite on acid, listening to the my little pony theme song, screaming f@ck Israel, and having a train run on them by random strangers. What of it?

That's when the secret third option comes out (coercion by threats of violence)

He runs NYC, NYC is corrupt. If he does construction he has to make a deal with criminals. Just the way it is.
