TourismPH Tourism PH’s "Meet the SEAblings" post for ASEAN 2026 promotion feels like our description was underwhelming compared to our neighbors SEAblings
Tourism Philippines (@tourismphilippines) recently posted a slide deck titled "Meet the SEAblings" to promote our hosting of the ASEAN Summit.
The slides introduce each ASEAN nation with iconic titles or global claims.
However, as the host country saved for the very last slide, the Philippines was described as:
"The Philippines is the Pearl of the Orient. We are known for having the world's longest Christmas season."
I love our Christmas traditions, but reading through all the slides expecting a strong grand finale for the host nation, ending on "longest Christmas season" felt a bit anticlimactic for an official tourism/ASEAN post.

Honestly almost all those descriptions sound very lame. It really couldn't have been hard to come up with something better for most of the countries.

Saklap

Agree parang wala bang something "bang" about the PH. Pwede naman yung white sand beaches, etc
•
u/TheLewishPeople 17h ago
pwede rin sana where the west meets the east (melting pot ng chinese, malay, indian, iberian at american cultures)
•
u/shaider 17h ago
Aren't all the description pretty banal 'only landlocked country', 'biggest archipelago' 'one of the top exporters of coffee/palm oil'? Maybe the only few that are actually kind of nice/interesting would be having Angkot Wat and Kampong Ayer.
And from a tourism perspective, I think highlighting "what does this country export" is actually more useless. Would saying "PH is one of the top semicon exporters" make people want to visit?

Underwhelming. Yung iba related sa economy or what makes them unique.
•
u/rockyricknroll 17h ago
At this point, si Jose Mari Chan na lang talaga nagbubuhat ng buong tourism campaign natin since September 1. Pinasahod na siguro ng DOT. 💀

All the descriptions suck tho. Imagine being Laos and having “ASEAN’s only landlocked country” as the description?
•
u/ab_od6851 11h ago
I mean, anong ilalagay mo sa Laos? Most bombed country?
•
u/i5HINE 3h ago
“Taga supply ng kuryente sa Vietnam” sounds so ugly. Pwede naman ayusin pag word? “Despite being a landlocked country, it has a strong river-based culture surrounding the Mekong River. To the point of becoming an important source of hydroelectric power, earning it the nickname “Battery of Southeast Asia.” Oh tignan mo.

u/4thhabibi 17h ago
Tanginang description yan. Sana sinaksak nyo na lang kami HAHAHAHA
In my observations, commercial establishments lang naman ang nagi-initiate ng Christmas vibes every September 1st. jusko

‘Philippines has one of the highest concentrations of diverse life and unique species in the entire world’
AI wouldve def done better, so whats the excuse now bakit ang underwhelming

ASEAN: a regional organization without real cooperation. Yan dapat. No common currency, no supranational authority, non-interference, no actual strong policies.

Pangit nung descriptions. Not very diplomatic, nor professional. Parang class project lang.

I really want the Maharlika Highway to be a symbol of the Philippines in the future with its historical sites (Dalton Pass Shrine, EDSA People Power Monument, Cagsawa Ruins, Leyte Landing Memorial) and tourist attractions (Patapat Viaduct, San Juanico Bridge, Agas-Agas Bridge, Malungon Cherry Blossoms) along the way, if not for the corrupt DPWH deliberately neglecting the highway system and saying a full rehabilitation is "impossible"

Skipped towards the end and nabasa yung sa Philippines, then binasa ko from the beginning. Bat parang afterthought lang yung pinas? Lmao

If this was the answer of Miss Philippines In thr question and answer portion of Miss Universe, I would literally be laughing my ass off

•
u/LommytheUnyielding 3h ago
Having the longest Christmas season is blatantly untrue. Only marketing people pushed that narrative, madami lang kumagat for some reason. Uhaw sa pwedeng ipagyabang.

u/notthelatte 17h ago
Hindi manlang binida na we have 7000+ islands eh no?

i feel like mas magandang ibida yung klaro ng dagat ng palawan, since we hold the global opinion for having the clearest and most beautiful beach there

Hahahahahaha worlds longest christmas season. Yun lang kasi maipapagmalaki naten.
Hirap naman if home to the worlds most corrupt politicians and ignorant voters 🤣

They should have given Philippines other description of what make it distinguishable among the SEAblings that is still a relatable trait on the region instead of sounding like we are not like other ASEAN.

Artificial Intelligence crumbles in the face of Natural Stupidity and Laziness.
•
•
u/Qurva-7 5h ago
kesa naman "Top exporters of human resources" or "the land blessed with natural abundance but also riddled with decedes of systemic corruption". Sad pero yeah if our people can't shame the shameless incompetent leaders in our country siguro yung hiya from other countries siguro will at least make them budge very slightly lang

The Philippnes doesn't have a rich documented history that goes back to ancient times.
Puro gaya lang din and walang originality majority ng trends and products dito.
There are nice beaches, yes, but there are similar if not better beaches elsewhere. Madumi kasi dito tbh. Majority ng beaches, imposibleng walang basura. Basta merong pinoy, merong nakakalat na basura. That's a fact.
There's nothing to brag about, really.
•
u/julesexplainsitall 16h ago
Ano ba naman kasi ang maipagmamalaki natin besides widespread corruption and an inability to capitalize on the wealth of natural resources we have?
•
•
u/kayel090180 17h ago
Was I spelling Vietnam wrong all my life?
Tayo lang yung may "The". Siguro it sounds underwhelming kasi 2 sentences lang.
•
u/userisnottaken 17h ago
What a stupid description.
A 4th grader can come up with something way better.

Napakababaw.
•
u/ToilettenPapier248 15h ago
Also, pwede ba ibalik yung “it’s more fun in the Philippines” slogan? May issue ba bakit pinalitan ng “love Philippines”?
•
u/Long-Ad3842 15h ago
parang gawa ng estudyante sa canva for their group presentation. they just used the most basic info they could find, walang thought.

Philippines: longest Christmas season????.. Una, hinde totoo. Pangalawa: yon na yon???

Couldn't they do those things where they
-give one page for each country -list capital, population, gdp and leader -a description of each country's history and culture -tas just drop whatever they wrote in the original for fun facts
•
•
u/Black_Hawk-X7 17h ago
Pwede namang archipelago of 7000+ islands.
•
u/Mobius_St4ip 17h ago
Indonesia has us beat though in that domain. They are the largest archipelagic nation in the world.
•
u/AdviceHaunting4242 13h ago
Y'all are overthinking it, it's one sentence long slide. No one was going to make a visiting decision based on that.
•
•
u/GeekGoddess_ 2h ago
Sino gumawa neto??? At paano na-approve??? Post lang naman to, bat kailangan tipirin as description na ganyan? One page per country hindi pwede?

•
u/supermax23 17h ago
To be fair ang panget lahat ng descriptions ng mga country. Could’ve presented each country better (more in terms of unique cultures rather than ‘fun facts’).
