Discussion It’s with great shame I admit……..
I had to switch to story mode to beat the final boss. I’ve been grinding my ass and went all in on the hard difficulty but after 3 days, I couldn’t beat the final boss and switched to story. I feel like such a failure
How the hell are people beating him on carnage? Now that I’ve beaten him and the stress is off, I plan to go back and beat him on hard mode.
This game is 10/10

It’s fine, it’s just a video game. I fought him like 30 times and then had an attempt that just clicked in all the right ways. I also wasn’t aware how well the final phase was going while I was in it and then suddenly did the third awakening finisher and was like, “oh shit I beat it.” I think that not feeling any pressure and being sort of aloof helped a lot because I didn’t get nervous and make any mistakes that run. The second I realize I’m doing well in a hard boss fight I fumble the ball and die.

Yeah I completely get that and understand it. Every time I got to the 3rd phase I started playing too cautious instead of just stay as I was, I got in my own head

If you beat him on story mode you can beat him on action mode. I firmly believe this.

Agreed. Timing has damn grabs are my biggest issue. I think now that I don’t feel the weight of never beating him before, tomorrow when I try again on action mode I won’t be stressed and hope to finally beat him

Yoshi's grabs are really stupid. Same with Ganyru. They have very small and annoyingly delayed counter windows. A good trick, if you have Oni gauge, just interrupt it with the hammers, spear, or daggers. Hammers for posture, spear for damage, daggers if you're low on HP since they spawn yellow souls.

My strategy for him (and all the bosses) was learn his attack timings and parry until I get burning blades. At that point i start to deflect his attacks with the burning blades and throw in some of the hammer oni weapon attacks to drain his stamina. I’m basically playing defensive the entire time, until I activate oni mode.

Surprisingly, I never knew about the party filling my gauge till I was over 75% done with the game. I’ve just been deflecting the entire game. I actually find parrying harder at the point. My biggest issue is the grab, I panic when it happens but working on it

thats alright bro, i dont get how people beat hin either haha, im not on there yet but now im scared haha

u/divy-lover 3h ago
By the way, not to mess with you but, this is the first game I was actually scared of the final boss before facing him lol. The story and game did such a great job at making him such a bad ass that I felt that before fighting him

Just take your time more bro, if you even beat him on story mode that's impressive enough. It took me MULTIPLE times on story mode but got the job done. Not an easy feat considering he has 3 stages instead of two. Be proud.

Dude, I almost cried the first time I saw his 3rd phase lol. I thought it was fine after 2, put my controller down and all.

LMFAO me too bro I was like "FUCK" three phases I was tryna manage using my healings so bad 😂😂😂😂

What worked for me was after dying to him like five times in a row, I put the game down, and over a two day period I would fire up the game and fight him two or three times. I pretty much memorized his entire move set over the three phases, and eventually bested him. Same process I went through with Sword Saint in Sekiro.
Helps not to just keep beating your head against a wall.
I didn’t change difficulty, but I was tempted at one point. But I would know😱

I beat sekiro right before playing onimusha so that the excuse im making as to why i could beat everything on carnage difficulty

u/OoTgoated 3h ago
Eh don't be ashamed. At least you aren't blaming the game and got it done one way or another. If you ask me that alone makes you way better than all the whiners I've seen lately about the game's bosses. So you needed to lower the difficulty to beat Yoshi for now, whatever you'll kick his bitch ass on Action and Carnage later I'm sure of it.

I watched a video on an Issen only Yoshitsune carnage mode and basically got the rhythm of his attacks down memorized. I didn't beat him first try but his attacks weren't that scary after multiple runs

I just came back over a few days and tried for like 30 minutes a day until I cruised through on the 3rd day. He's difficult and there's no shame in lowering the difficulty. I was about to lower it myself.

I got to the final boss, thought it was going to be like the oni fight where you started in the second form in the state after finishing the first.
After 8 tries I beat the first form without using healing items. When I died to the second phase and realized you start back at the first I decided I was finished with the game, no intention of beating it even on story mode.
You put in the effort and followed through to the best you could, enjoy your victory.

You apparantly aren't the only one who felt this way, but I honestly did not struggle with him at all and killed him in a couple of tries. Thank God, because I got annoyed with his 20 second long animations if he hits you with certain abilities.
Doesn't matter though, as long as you had fun!

I had to use the items I've been saving the entire game to stand a chance, and they helped me to finally beat him on action difficulty.

I was close to switching to story when I read somewhere on here deflecting works better than perfect parrying, which was what I used the entire game, boss got a lot easier after that.
Play the way you want dude who cares!

Did you try action hints what tell you the button to press as they attack? i used them halfway through the game and I feel its a fair difficulty, i dont lile souls like games. I like ninja garden type nier automata
Play a gamw however u want its a game lol. Only the little gay retards say skill issues cos they're immature children

You learn the moves. At first I went in on Action thinking this'll be baby food. I got owned. Then I tried a few more times got to phase 2 and couldn't survive long enough I was like. Im tired. I'm putting it on story jist so I can finish the game and do ng+ then I get to him on carnage. Have all upgrades etc. Get him to phase 2 and im still struggling. Then you learn the counters to his moves. When to dodge his grab etc. You issen his jump kick. You isssn his swiping pink sword and suddenly you're in phase 3. It takes a bit of learning. I want to say...maybe 12-15 attempts to get him. Now I do rematch on carnage for fun. Keep in mind i have brain damage and hemiplegia from some rather life altering strokes. Its doable for me..its doable for you.

I had the same problem because I was trying to Issen all his attacks, once I decided to let go Issen and only use it on the attacks which were easy, the last boss also got pretty easy, I'll also ask you to do all the side quests, increase your health and stamina bar to max and make use of the consumables, they are very helpful.

A word of advice: Turn on the reaction prompts for this fight (You can actually do that in actuin mode). A lot of his attacks are quite unorthodox and the prompts might help you what to do in which situation. NOTE: You still have to get the timing yourself, this only helps for what action you should take!
For example, his charged sword attack, where he lenghrens the blade with a purple Aura. Since it is a sword swing you initially think to try to parry/deflect it, BUT this counts, for some reason, as an UNARMED attack, so dodging is what you are supposed to do, and increases the instinct gauge quite nicely.
I believe in you, and don't worry: The Game IS hard, there is no shame to beating it on a lower difficulty first :)

Practise, optimize charms and do every side quests to buy upgrades.
It's a single player game and at the end of the day whichever difficulty you choose, is all about having fun.

u/LynnAbel713 35m ago
It took me 5 days to defeat the final boss. Most players finish the game in about 20 hours, but my play time was 70 hours because I made sure to complete every side quest, upgrade my gear, and practice each boss until I could beat them. It was definitely worth the effort, though.
But on my NG+ run in Carnage mode, I gave up after trying for 10 hours—it was just way too hard for me.

How the hell are people beating him on carnage
Well the reality is that the game plays exactly the same on every difficulty, the attacks, patterns, timing are exactly the same. The only real difference is bosses deal more damage so you can make less mistakes since in most cases you'll die in 2 hits, some attacks will one shot you. They also have more HP so the fights just test if you can keep doing the same thing you did on Story/Action for longer. If you beat a boss on any difficulty you can beat him again on a higher difficulty.

u/WilliamDeeWilliams 24m ago
Me too, man. It's OK, we'll go back at some point and beat his ass for real.
1
u/Matthias360 21m ago
On Carnage it took 2hours for me. Would have been faster because I messed up 2 very close attempts in Round 3. At the end Round 1 was very easy and I used Issen most of the time. Round 2 and 3 I played more defense and blocked any attack I wasn‘t sure. But there are also many safe opportunities to Issen. I also used Still Water for interupting and extra Oni souls.

Who cares. You beat him and that's what matters. At least you're complaining about how the game sucks. You're already better than half the people in the community
2
u/divy-lover 4h ago
Just something I was trying to prove to myself to beat it in hard mode but agreed

I don't actually think Yoshitsune is that hard on "Action". Like, you got items, use it.
Every Onimusha has a pretty hard Final Boss, but if you have been hoarding items from the start of the game, then now use it, it's your last fight anyway. You are not limited to the Hozuki pouch, you have Mild and Heavy Restorative items, you have items that refill your reflex gauge, you have item that refill the Hozuki Pouch, and you have item that will resurrect you (and if you use it and still die a 2nd time, the game still reload your auto save so you don't waste that item anyway).
2
u/divy-lover 4h ago
I actually completely forgot about the resurrection item. My biggest issue is timing his damn grab, keeps getting me

Well, a lot on this sub said that even on story mode he gave them a really hard time. Beating the game on whatever mode is still beating it. You did a great job buddy, you bought the game and you can play it however you like.
