I don’t know if I just got lucky, but I beat him first try. I hadn’t done that since the second boss in the game.
The boss immediately after him took me out before I could even get a hit on them.

Same, I was getting my behind whooped by him but I was able to read his moves. This is the only boss where I beat 1st try on action mode.

In Carnage mode it took me like 5 tries, in action mode a little less. Dokyo I beat on the 1st try on both modes. The Dokyo 'fight' is more of a puzzle solving / dodge /parry confrontation at its essence.

Only boss I first tried was windy boi and stormy boi.

The fight against both brothers? That took me so many tries!! It took me 3 or 4 tries just to get the timing of the insta kill special down.

Are charged attacks more effective DPS wise? I rarely use them

They're situational for getting extra DPS on bosses, but generally not worth it. Mostly used for regular enemies to get more blue orbs.

Reason is charged heavy attacks produce more purple souls. So you get to Onimusha mode quicker.

I usually use them to stop stagger Regen. Does more than the bow and keeps that meter down.

Yeah

This boss is hard if u fight him toe to toe. Just keep your distance and he will chase you then he will do the jumping sword attack and that can easily be issened. Keeping the distance also keeps him from doing the grab. Beat this guy on carnage and rematch on carnage using the strategy i mentioned.

this is the COWARDS way (just kidding, i was trying to make this happen last night in carnage but couldnt get it to work so i had to just beat him close quarters)

Exactly. My friend recommended me to run around but I said that’s not the way of the sword. So I went and learned all his moveset and finally beat him fair and square.
Took me a while so it wasn’t a cakewalk.2

The run strategy is actually how I beat Sword Saint Isshin in Sekiro. It was very much cheese but I just lacked the skill to fight him straight up.

i beat him somehow on my second try on a fresh carnage run without having to use a mirror. Now just the final few bosses to get through

I think the thing that threw me so hard with him was his silhouette. So many of the other bosses up to this point are huge towering beefcakes with giant weapons that are super easy to keep track of in your peripheral.
Ganryu is tall for a human but he's gangly and again, his sword is kinda big for a katana but nothing like the giant halberds and and shit other bosses have and he keeps it relatively close to his body in a lot of his attacks while Gioh's tentacles provide a lot of distracting visual noise. Really really loved the evolution of his fights and his story.

dat mfkin grab got me every single time. he fakes sword attack and then the tentacle lady reaches from behind his back. even after few attempts brain knew what to do but hands disobeyed.

Some of his attacks are more delayed than the first fight, some are faster.
The grab and the running stab are BRUTAL to learn

He’s the only boss aside from the final one to actually give me pause. Fucker has like 10-hit combos that all land at different speeds. Really wish we’d have fully killed him

I breezed through him on story mode then I tried to do hes boss replay on action mode and it took me like 15 tries. Hes one of the bosses I’m scared to face on carnage mode.

Yeah he was a tricky boss. I think it's because he mixes feints and slower movements with slashes that are fast and not very telegraphed which messes up my timing.
