Sigh I went and Google the name and then realized...

For the lazy and/or young: Phil Collins is a well known drummer and a member of the band Genesis.

u/Vintage-Grievance 1d ago

Same Phil Collins who worked on providing soundtracks for Disney films, I presume.

u/Bitter-Value-1872 1d ago

Most notably the Tarzan movie

16

u/Vintage-Grievance 1d ago

Yup, and Brother Bear, too.

"Oh I love this song"- The Fall guy, also GTA VI

2

u/Syonoq 1d ago

Also the creator of what may be the hardest beat drop of all time.

1

u/bigdaddydopeskies131 1d ago

It's actually is

2

u/itsyobbiwonuseek 1d ago

That whole soundtrack slaps. He outdid himself on that one

1

u/mcbaginns 1d ago

He won an academy award for this

21

u/TheLordVader1978 1d ago

Ya, him and Elton John pretty much ruled the Disney movie soundtrack back in the 90s

4

u/Vintage-Grievance 1d ago

Agreed.

It was just a different scene in those days, where entertainment was front and center, and marketing was in the backseat- not in the trunk- but it wasn't like you were watching the movie the entire time, going, "That will be on the shelves in Walmart soon".

u/TheLordVader1978 1d ago

Don't forget the obligatory video game tie in.

3

u/Repulsive_Stock9400 1d ago

Same Phil Collins who divorced his wife by fax!

1

u/Vintage-Grievance 1d ago

Whoa, I didn't know that!

The sheer drama.

To add: Phil is roughly the same age as the woman in the OP video (75), but hasn't played drums in about 20 years because of health reasons. Many years of touring and performing were rough on him and caused nerve damage in his neck and hands, making it to where he can no longer grip or feel drumsticks in his hands. He toured with Genesis in 2022, though only did vocals, and his son Nic played drums.

Oh now I'm sad again

u/Trackbikes 1d ago

Oi Buster, now I feel old

19

u/mcbaginns 1d ago

What a strange way to describe him lol.

He was the lead singer too. He was responsible for the reverb drum sound that all 80s music had. He is one of three musicians to sell over 100 million records as a band member and a solo artist with the other two being Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney.

"he was a drummer and member of a band" tells the uninitiated nothing lol

1

u/Disrobingbean 1d ago

Also considered a sex symbol for a time... The drugs must have been good back then, nothing but respect for him as a musician though.

Phyllis Collins briefly dated the guy who wrote the Book of Genesis

2

u/AuntieMame5280 1d ago

This is hilarious. 🏆

That's Lily's dad for the kids.

3

u/Significant-Clue-425 1d ago

The young ones: … ok, so he’s Lily Collins’ dad, and he like played with a band or something.

u/pretentious_handle 1d ago
