Hi everyone,
I’m 23F, living in the Lausanne/Vaud area for 2 years, and I’m posting anonymously because this is a very personal situation. I honestly don’t know what the best thing to do is anymore, so I would really appreciate some outside perspective and practical advice.
I currently live with my mother, my stepfather and his daughter. The situation at home with my stepfather has become increasingly difficult for me.
He constantly puts me down, insults me , calls me lazy and says many other hurtful things to me. He also treats my mother badly, calls her names and creates a very negative atmosphere at home. He has made it very clear that he wants me to leave.
What makes this particularly difficult for me is that my mother and I are the ones paying basically all the household expenses. I contribute financially and pay half of the rent, while he contributes very little or nothing towards the household.
At the same time, I have also helped by taking care of his daughter. I have done this many times without expecting anything in return, but I don’t even feel that this is acknowledged or appreciated. Instead, I continue to be treated as if I am lazy or a burden.
I am also currently studying, so I’m trying to manage my studies, work and financial responsibilities at the same time.
My financial situation recently became more complicated because I lost my previous job while I was sick. This left me in a vulnerable position because I suddenly lost my income while still having expenses and responsibilities.
Thankfully, I now have a job interview next week. The position will probably be part-time, although I don’t know the exact percentage or salary yet. I’m really hoping it works out.
At this point, I feel like I need to leave home for my own wellbeing. However, I’m scared of putting myself in an even more difficult situation financially.
I ausanne if I’m willing to live outside the city?
Are there any services or organisations in Vaud that could advise me in this situation?
Is there any financial or housing assistance available for someone who is studying and working part-time?
Has anyone here been in a similar situation and managed to move out with a limited income?
I don’t expect Reddit to solve my family situation. I just feel a bit lost right now and would really appreciate some outside perspectives.
