"Player vs player is not available" that's dumb. If you are limiting the roster to 6 characters already let people try it with a friend, they are missing potential sales by not allowing people have fun locally. Don't have too much fun.

Legit fun fact, one of my earliest fighting game memories was the Xbox Live Arcade demo of KOF'98UM. It had six characters - Team Japan, Kyo/Beni/Daimon, and Team Ikari, Ralf/Clark/Leona. And you could play that two player. So I spent hours playing a fuckin demo with a friend and it's such a great memory for me. I think it was even before I picked up Street Fighter 4 and BlazBlue Calamity Trigger and truly got into the genre. I must've been 9 or 10.
My dad didn't understand online gaming back then and still doesn't now, no way 10 year old me was convincing him to get me some "Microsoft Points" to buy the full version of a game that didn't come in an actual box. So online demos that still allowed multiplayer were HUGE for me as a kid.
Times really have changed, I guess...

I guess its different when you get saudi funded, but when ive worked at a studio(albeit not as a dev like i am now) we cared a lot about numbers because they mean more popularity, which usually means more consistent customers and eventually way more money for the game and the franchise as a whole.

They don't need to, Steam gives devs a dashboard with way more info about player number than the public numbers from steam charts.

Well fatal fury is definitely a franchise that needs to be revitalized so if it hurt a potential new audience, from a business perspective it was bad. Also counterpoint: are there people that bought the game because or Ronaldo starring in it?

I think Salvatore got away with it because he genuinely does feel like a goofy new character created for the game if you don't already know he's an IRL musician. He even gets a proper story/lore with stuff like being buds with Duck King.
With Ronaldo, though... everyone knows who he is, there's no "if you think of it this way". And they didn't even bother trying to tie him in with a fun plotline. He's just John Football.

Probably not the only cause but it did massively damage the game's appeal to the FGC and SNK oldheads, while also failing to appeal to mainstream audiences. They've ended up with a game designed for no one.

I'm kinda just done with being expected to give up everything that makes me happy because shitty people keep digging their claws into it. My two favourite things are fighting games and pro wrestling and both are being taken over by a regime that would execute me because I like cock. Why the fuck should I change. With SNK games people always make some sort of excuse to not play it that they stay silent on when it's present in other games anyway, this didn't start with the Saudi stuff. It's fine to just personally not be interested, dunno why folks don't like admitting that with SNK.

If anything, I find the entire politics of it to be the weirdest reason of all.
And I could even understand it, if its a "anything with Saudis involved should be boycoted" attitude, that I can respect.
But when its about just SNK, and every other developer gets a free pass just because they are not Saudi owned in majority, to me its an astronomical level of hypocrisy and insanity.
And when people even say with a straight face that there is a difference in those casses, and dont find anything wrong with their way of thinking, it just makes me feel like im in some episode of the twilight zone.

As an FGC head who hasn't purchased this game but really enjoyed MOTW, I will say the roster, marketing and overall presentation isnt doing this game any favors.

That's fair, looking at it purely as a Garou sequel I think there are certain things left to be desired too. In general I def see SNK games get flak for certain things way more than others do though and it's been that way for over a decade now, that's all

I feel like SNK is still trying to figure out an effective way to package their IPs for new/casual players. They have clearly been trying a new aesthetic since KOF14, and it has had mixed results at best.

closer to SF6 with extra Defense options, a universal dodge attacks, grabs are slower so you can react, there is no drive rush

I see a lot of people shit on this game because of Ronaldo (rape allegations, no I didn't look into the case not the point) but will play and praise other games with similar issues.
Tekken has Marduk who is a murderer and a rapist (check his og win screen/cinematic against Anna) why hasn't anyone boycotted that yet?
No I'm not defending rapist they should rot in jail then burn in hell but what I don't get is selectively targeting games to hate based on reasons other games have but no one cares. If you hate him that much don't play him no need to not play an entire game. You can even set him as the training dummy to work out that hate lol but to shit on and shut out a whole game for one guy, doesn't make sense to me.
