I think these songs are all characterised by having interesting verse riffs but fairly bland chorus riffs. This sort of develops from the basic philosophy of verse-chorus music, which is that the chorus should have the highest energy of the whole song. In the 2000s this was broadly interpreted as being louder, or at least having more noise. For FoB, I think this is most obvious on ttotbo, where the chorus is definitely louder, there is an obvious sonic shift, but it actually gets less engaging.
listening to a good portion of infinity on high honestly makes me feel drowsy because of this. i have no idea how folie a deux got all the flack for years over this
