Anime/Manga Discussion What do you mean Takuma Saiou is 17???
He’s famously voiced by Takehito Koyasu, the man who voices Dio in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. People point this out because he uses The World and people compare it to how Dio says it in Jojo. But apparently the similarities don’t end there because this man is supposed to be 17???? Dude is just straight up a Jojo villain. HE EVEN HAS A STAND!

Other Went to my first Yu-Gi-Oh pre-sale release event for Beyond The Brave with Genesys games.
I've only just started playing Yu-Gi-Oh competitively. I only ever played casually with friends 8 years ago without handtraps etc.
Attended my first large event for the release of Beyond the Brave yesterday, where they had a few hours of Genesys.
My deck of choice?
Karakuri.
Genesys was honestly so much fun, I know people hate it but despite using Karakuris some of my matches lasted 30+ minutes, multiple turns, battle damage going both ways.
I played a total of 3 opponents, I only won a single duel out of 7 duels but that one win felt like I'd won the entire tournament.
I managed to play Magnet Force in every game which threw people off.
This turn, all monsters on the field whose original Types are Machine or Rock, are unaffected by your opponent's monster effects (except their own).
Proper Yugi anime moment when playing against Elfnote, Blitz and Invoked.
Won the raffle for my first ever playmat and on top of that, managed to pull a secret bandit, trade for the secret Ashtra and pulled together a playset of the other Super/Common Ashtra cards to try out.
Also pulled another Secret Rare Bandit today when playing sealed, coming second place! The guys I was playing with also pulled the starlight overframe red eyes.

Anime/Manga Discussion Happy Birthday Grandpa Muto! Lets celebrate all the unique ways Season 5 gave him some agency, by showing off Solomon & Shimon's badassery, fun times, and fashion sense!
Growing up watching the anime, I always found Grandpa such a cool character. But I couldnt stand how everytime hes on screen, its for one of a few things. Getting kidnapped or his soul stolen, tending to his card store - typically right before getting kidnapped or his soul stolen - , or rarely acting as a cheerleader like in the first half of battle city. Before getting his soul stolen yet again and then sidelined for all of finals
Season 5 (yes we're counting Capsule Monsters dammit) felt like a breathe of fresh air. After almost 200 episodes of feeling like dead weight and damsel in distress motivation for Yugi, we get to see so many different sides of Grandpa with all the highs, lows, and exquisite outfits to match. He *finally* feels like hes part of the group, and not just an older version of Mokuba. We seem him as:
-A mentor Duelist
-A mentor Archeologist
-A formidable duelist in his own right... I mean, a guy that resembles that Apdnarg superstar
-A general enthusiast for the card game (in the dub... a 'chiropractor' enjoyer in the sub)
-An elite drummer, lol
-A high level Capsule Monster summoner
-The legendary gambler
-An Indiana Jones style explorer
-A true appreciator of the Egyptian God Cards
-A multigenerational protector of the Pharaoh
-The original and destined wielder of Exodia
-A bedtime storytelling, dancing, openly supportive and loving Grandpa
The last season of DM, and even its source material, are known for being a bit all over the place. But when they hit their mark, boy does it land. And of all the places they stuck the landing, giving both the living day legend and his predecessor a honorable conclusion to the series, as both a grandpa & mentor in support of his grandson and pupils, but also as a man and competitor independent to his other ties, was beautiful to see and long overdue.
Happy Birthday to one of Yugiohs finest characters, Solomon Muto!
Edit- Takahashi gave Solomon his own Birthday! He mustve thought highly of him to share such an honor, so happy birthday to both legends!

Anime/Manga Discussion Yugioh GX Sub/Dub Episode Comparisons, Episode 38: The Legendary City of Atlantis/S1E38: Get Yarr Game On!
This is part of a series I'm running on Tumblr and crossposting to Reddit comparing the sub and dub versions of GX, in hopes of contributing to conversation around the series.
In this post, I'm going to review and compare the subbed and dubbed versions of Yugioh GX episode 38. Sorry (not that sorry) for going on vacation, because I could have had this out the day after International Talk Like a Pirate Day…
Episode Review
We open with Judai/Jaden and Shou/Syrus's fight, the subject of which differs between versions. In the sub Judai ate Shou's favorite once-a-month fried shrimp, while in the dub Jaden traded Syrus's bed for a card...despite the two of them sharing a bunk bed, with Syrus right in the middle. Syrus additionally mentions Jaden forgot his birthday and blames Jaden for getting them into so much trouble "with everything you've put me through this year."
Once Manjoume/Chazz comes in, the dub calls the fried shrimp and rice he’s eating corn dogs and mashed potatoes. Wahoo for cultural censorship, how about those jelly donuts, the jokes are too easy.
Enter Anacis/the Admiral, who in the sub is characterized as a boisterous maritime trader.
Anacis: Crew of the Duel Academia! Feelin' fine, ye say?! [Feedback] ...I'm the great, elusive traders who bustles about the seas of the world: Anacis!
The fansubs also have Anacis use some sentence structure like a pirate (see above), but there’s more focus on his verbal quirk ending sentences with "...I say!" based on his "-da tuna" endings in Japanese. The Admiral is instead a pirate, or at least someone who uses the lingo of one, despite his name also being more of a maritime reference.
Admiral: Avast, ye landlubbers! I be the Admiral! [Feedback] ...Ye scallywags never laid yer ears on the tales of the Admiral?! Scourge o' the seven seas?!
Anacis challenges Judai to a "duel of [feedback] ...s" in the sub ("...ark duel" in Crunchy subs) which is later given in full as "duel in the seas" ("shark duel"), originally "umi no duel" (sea duel). Everyone assumes Anacis is one of the Seven Stars because of the term's feedback-obscured similarity to the usual "yami no duel" (duel of darkness/dark duel). Given this is all Japanese wordplay, the dub skips this bit and instead they assume he's a Shadow Rider because he's picking with a fight with Jaden. Which is also a reasonable assumption, so it works.
Because the Admiral came out of the gate singling Jaden out, the dialogue around the same is changed in the dub to a "get yarr game on" joke (it's spreading) and some sarcasm from Jaden's friends in place of "hey, why him?" incredulity. Anacis also mentions the Phantasms as "confirmation" that this is related to the Seven Stars, and his references to them are omitted for the rest of the episode in the dub.
When Asuka/Alexis points out the danger in going onto Anacis/the Admiral's turf, Judai points out he was challenged directly whereas Jaden references Syrus's point from earlier: his involvement with the Shadow Riders plot does tend to put his friends in danger. This adds new context to his friends (minus Syrus) coming along, with an added pirate joke from Chazz.
Misawa exposits about Anacis's reputation as a maritime trading mogul, while Bastion has slightly vaguer exposition suggesting he might be more than a pirate wannabe given his resources. As we get to the duel Anacis is proud of his specially prepared arena, and the Admiral trash talks. Judai is excited for a new duel as his friends comment on his attitude not fitting the stakes, while the dub goes for jokes around walking the plank and the submarine setting.
When the lights go out around the start of the duel, Judai is slightly impressed by the atmosphere before getting into discussion of the duel of darkness/shadow game. Anacis mentions the Phantasms again when Judai talks about stakes, while the Captain never did and instead goes "I have no idea what you're talking about" in pirate speak. Judai and Anacis yell about "yami" versus "umi" to drive home the misunderstanding going on:
Judai: I meant your rule for this Duel of Darkness! Like turning me into a doll if I lose, or trapping my soul inside a card.
Anacis: Huh? A duel in the seas wouldn't be like that...
Judai: But it would in darkness!
Anacis: But not in the seas!
Judai: Yeah, but it would in darkness!
Anacis: But not in the seas!
Judai: It would in darkness! ...So, uh...I'll ask again just to make sure, but you did say "darkness," right?
Anacis: It was "the seas," I say!
(In the Crunchy subs, this is a back-and-forth about a “dark duel” and a “shark duel.”)
Jaden and the Admiral have a more normal conversation about the misunderstanding with a bunch of dramatic zooms, ending in the Admiral yelling over the shot of the sub surfacing.
Jaden: What's your shadow sham gonna be? Are ye gonna turn me into a doll? Or maybe suck me into some magic card!
Admiral: What? I mean, what yer tongue be spoutin'?
Jaden: Shadow game? Remember?!
Admiral: 'Tis no shadow game!
Jaden: But what about my key?!
Admiral: Key? What key?
Jaden: The key that— wait a sec... Okay... You are trying to unlock the spirit gates...right? Aren't you?
Admiral: Why, ye scrappy swine! I'm no Shadow Rider! And I'll prove it! Bring a spring upon 'er cable and let's careen this lady sky bound!
The gang's reaction and the gag about the lights getting fixed is about the same, save for a line from Asuka/Alexis discussing the respective misunderstandings.
The sub has Judai point out they don't need to duel, and Anacis continues out of stubbornness; in the dub they continue just because. Anacis explains the Legendary City of Atlantis/A Legendary Ocean field effect once he plays it, while the Admiral trash talks and leaves Bastion to explain. As Anacis ends his next turn, the dub again cuts his talk about wanting the Phantasms and instead has the Admiral focus on Jaden, which isn't inaccurate.
Anacis wants both the Phantasms and Judai as trophies for his planned underwater academy, claiming Judai is one of the symbols of Duel Academia citing his status as the school rep against North. The Admiral instead wants to recruit Jaden as his "first mate" including having him help teach. While his friends react to this, Manjoume is jealous over that designation while Chazz talks about getting a new room...despite already having a room to himself. Go figure. Anacis tries to buy Judai's loyalties with money (with a rich-kid Manjoume joke in the process) before proposing the stakes that Judai losing means going with Anacis. The Admiral butters Jaden up with praise before proposing a bet over the same.
The duel proceeds, with the main changes being the Admiral's pirate talk. Judai compliments Anacis after getting direct attacked, while Jaden has a quip about Sealand. When Judai/Jaden brings out Thunder Giant and activates its effect, the dub changes his quip about his own turn with monster destruction effects to an exchange between him and the Admiral ("How that be?" "I read the card!") Bastion also gets a quip about orcas being endangered once the monster is destroyed.
After Thunder Giant's direct attack, Anacis and the Admiral offer Judai/Jaden different deals: Anacis offers 10 million yen (about $92,000 USD in 2005) for 1000 LP, which Judai isn't even sure is possible, and when Judai turns it down Misawa theorizes Judai's failed to comprehend exactly how much money that is. The Admiral instead offers Jaden a thousand doubloons (valued at a million dollars) to drop the duel and skip to working for him. When Jaden similarly rebuffs him the Admiral brings up Syrus's feud with him instead...implying the Admiral was spying on Jaden before he arrived at DA. (Chazz even calls this out mentioning the Admiral "did his homework.") Anacis gives up pretty quick once Judai says no, while the Admiral tells him to mull it over.
Jaden has a quip when Daedalus gets summoned. After Anacis/the Admiral direct attacks with it, the dub cuts most of a peanut gallery segment where Manjoume - who's mostly been pretending he's too cool for these shenanigans the whole duel - talks about Judai.
Misawa: Logically speaking, Judai doesn't stand a chance now!
Manjoume: Or so you'd think, if not going with logic wasn't what's so annoying about him. Now, let's see it--that "Destiny Draw" thing you were born with!
In the dub, this gets cut down to Chazz commenting that Jaden is nearly finished.
Anacis gloats about having Judai soon, while the Admiral trash talks Jaden. On Judai's last draw, he affirms his trust in his deck (once again going back to his characterization as someone who has a deep connection with his deck), while Jaden talks about his last-ditch draw. When attacking Daedalus with Bubbleman Neo, Jaden has an additional quip. The duel finishes the same.
In the aftermath, the dub changes the dialogue around Anacis/the Admiral's final scheme. In the sub Anacis ships Judai's friends off ASAP in a more explicit kidnapping, and there's audio of their confusion as they're sent off:
Judai: Where're the others?
Anacis: Just look up there, I say.
Misawa: What about Judai?
Asuka: Isn't he coming back with us?
(Speedboat drives off)
Judai: Wait, what's going on here?!
Anacis: You really will be comin' to the true Academia, I say!
Judai: I what?! But that wasn't the deal, was it?!
In the dub, the Admiral instead tries to convince Jaden his friends left him in an attempt to manipulate him into staying:
Jaden: What do you mean, left?
Admiral: They took the first and only dinghy home.
Jaden: So I'm stuck?!
Admiral: Yarr. I fear it be true. But...see for yourself. High-def video tell no tall tale.
(Speedboat drives off)
Jaden: So what now? Uh, Admiral.
Admiral: Now ye begin your new life under the sea, Jaden. Sheets to the wind! We be makin' way to me first mate's new home!
Back at DA, three days have passed in the sub while it's been a week in the dub. The sub has the additional detail that Shou hasn't eaten or drank in that time, and in both versions he's been waiting at the pier for the whole time. Shou expresses regret about the argument they had before Judai left, while Syrus talks about how Jaden must have found better friends and Alexis guesses he left for the money.
Judai/Jaden's return from an unspecified escape is mostly the same. While both returned for friendship, Jaden specifies he came back for Syrus instead of his friends in general (as Judai does) and adds a quip about how he couldn't understand the Admiral's jargon. The episode finishes out with the dub making some last jokes about Jaden replacing Syrus's bed.
And that's game! Gotcha!
Spoiler Zone
Empty!
Final Thoughts
Chumley slander counter: N/A (too few lines to count)
This episode is largely a comedic one, and that doesn’t really change between versions. The nature of the comedy does change here and there, however.
The dub leans heavily on the Admiral’s pirate talk for humor, which again is weird given his sea captain look but I guess they found that easier to make jokes out of. Most of the wordplay jokes this episode (especially duel in the seas vs. duel of darkness/shark duel vs. dark duel) get changed out for pirate talk jokes, which to me is serviceable but fails to capture the same brand of comedic misunderstanding that underlies my favorite moment in the episode when Misawa/Bastion asks about the dark arena and someone runs into the bridge to report they fixed the arena lights. That is all, however, admittedly extremely subjective.
Looking at characterization, the dub version of this episode starts (and ends) with an incident where Jaden traded away Syrus’s bed. This is funny in one way but also makes Jaden come off as a worse friend compared to eating his friend's fried shrimp (even if it is Shou’s favorite). Syrus’s anger at him is more justified given that difference, especially because Jaden also forgot his birthday. This in turn makes Jaden saying he came back for Syrus in the episode ending a bit weirder, since he’s a good enough friend to come back for Syrus but not a good enough friend to let him sleep at night.
The submarine peanut gallery also might come off as worse friends in the dub version of this episode, because the changes to the dialogue at the end along with the Admiral’s new story make it look like they really just left Jaden behind without protest. Weird decision, frankly.
Also I don’t know what was up with the dub removing references to the Phantasms/Sacred Beasts. Might have been for time, might have been to reduce continuity dependence, I’m not a 4KIDS writer so who knows.

Card Game Discussion Almost 1 year ago (October 14th 2025) , we received the announcement for the limit over collection. If Konami decides to run it back again, what do you think the theme/characters will be this time around and or what characters do you want to see?
Last year the limit over collection was announced on the 14th of October (roughly 10 days from now). And considering Konami is in the business of making money, and the limit over collection did indeed make them a lot of money, it would make sense for them to run it back again.

Card Artwork Discussion Possible 4th Ars Magna Card?
In each of the 3 Ars Magna monsters’ card arts, Medius (or at this point, Mediclius) appears to be holding a weapon corresponding to the colors of the dimension that they are from: red being artmage, white being elfnote, and black being doomz. On the dragon he appears to have an axe (doomz), on the cat he appears to have a scepter (elfnote), and on the warrior he appears to have a spear (artmage). My question arises when looking at the card art for Mediclius. He appears to have 4 weapons floating around him, rather than just 3. At first I thought there were only 2, which confused me, soon realizing that there are 2 more pictured behind him. They are very hard to make out. This becomes more obvious when looking at the Ars Magna trap, which depicts mediclius fighting vidolium in his new form. The 4th weapon appears to be a sword with a yellow gem, on the left-hand side of the card, behind his wings. What could this imply for the lore? We already know that this storyline should receive its final cards (presumably) in immortal phoenix. Does this imply the existence of a 4th ars magna monster? What could this 4th weapon be referencing?

Anime/Manga Discussion Does anyone else here feel sympathetic for Iliaster's 4 Stars Of Destruction from 5D's? I've always did because they're the last of humanity after the Meklord Emperor Genocide had destroyed their future. What do you think?
I'm gonna be honest, I've always felt a lot of sympathy for Iliaster's 4 Stars Of Destruction from 5D's because they had their future cruelly taken away from them because the Meklord Emperor Genocide had wiped out almost all of humanity besides the 4 of them due to Momentum being misused, and their plan to go back in time to prevent said terrible future from happening is very noble to me. Don't get me wrong, they had a very noble goal, but they had went about it the wrong way by trying to drop Ark Cradle on New Domino City to create a stronger Zero Reverse wipe out the research for Momentum along with the city itself and everyone and everything in it is absolutely horrible, and I don't condone that at all. However, traveling to the past to destroy a seemingly good and well-intentioned piece of research found for an unlimited energy source that's free of pollution that solves the city's energy crisis that only leads to humanity's extinction by giant genocidal monsters in the distant future could still be well intentioned and have some nobility too, they just went about the whole thing the wrong way. That's how I feel, at least.
What do you guys think? Do you feel bad for Z-ONE, Paradox, Aporia, and Antinomy, too? If so/not, then why is that?

Card Game Discussion What are some fun card interactions that you've stumbled upon?
Hi guys, I wanted to ask the community what random cool moments have you come across while dueling? I'm interested in your strange combos, unplayable mechanics, and unintended jank boards.
These are a two I came across recently:
- Reindsurm + Tachyon Primal
You can (awkwardly) make a dragon xyz monster inside a Reindsurm deck, and using Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Primal, forcibly put a dragon on your opponents side for your Reindsurm stuff to take advantage of.
- Despian Luluwalilith + LaDD
Luluwalilith's effect adds 500ATK to all your monsters permanently, and LADD's omni-negate needs for the card to lose 1000ATK first for it to work. If you get LADD to 0ATK, Luluwalilith's effect still builds the ATK back up, but the negate will never work again lol.

Fan Art I made the Manga Duel Disk for CSP as a 3D Drawing Help tool !
I made this a while ago to help me draw Yugioh Comics because that Duel disk is so diffuclt to draw for each panel again and again. There are 3D models out there to help already but all of them are the Anime Duel disk. And I wanted to stay true to the original atleast.
Also super Happy with Konamis Manga Art collection. They look great in person and are an absolute joy for cosplayers and fans imo.
I hope this helps other fellow Yugioh fanartists out there.
