Exactly. Heck, I used to be one of the biggest One Piece skeptic because One Piece was too long and the designs were tok goofy. But the Netflix series actually turned me into a fan of the series
Yeah that look is very vampire goth bondage. If they lean into that they probably could have done something like how the live action inquisitors look in the Star Wars shows. It would probably clash with the Fox X-Men universe's general tone. They could lean into the camp with the way how Mr Sinister nowadays plays off like a Rocky Horror Picture Show character but that would still be a pretty big departure. At worst it would be as off putting as Apocalypse looked at best it would be massively toned down (no high red collar or ribbon cape).
All the better. Sinister is unapologetically campy and over the top dramatic.
Fox would have... swapped his cape for a leather duster. Stripped most of his powers. Miscast him with a random A lister. Only referred to him as "Essex".
They never knew how to lean into the most comic booky parts of X-Men and you shouldn't do Sinister without that.
They were hinting at Mr Sinister in the last few X-films but the plans fell through probably because of the Disney Buyout of 20th Century Fox.
Not that I really had faith in them doing Mr. Sinister justice since they seem to be allergic doing Anything not closely associated to either Professor X, Magneto, or Wolverine & the other X-men beyond Mystique were basically undercooked.
Like could you even imagine they gave the spotlight to Tye Sheridan's Cyclops to even bring up his connection and history with Essex?
Singer never really cared for the X-Men so the only villains were only ever going to be Magneto and the Government
Then Dark Phoenix because “we gotta do Dark Phoenix!!”
First Class was a prequel origin and opted for a weird Sebastian Shaw
DOFP was DOFP
Then they wanted to do Apocalypse and then Dark Phoenix again
And while that was happening they tried setting up Sinister in the background but kept falling short and never ended up doing him
Now we have confirmation that Nathaniel Essex will be featured in the MCU’s X-Men movie. Only took almost three decades after they started making X-Men movies to get to this point.
They started filming scenes with David Bowie but he wouldn't stop trying to out sing Hugh Jackman. Then Patrick Stewart start belting out Shakespeare with Ian McKellen, and then it started to melt the brains of the production staff because it was too Cerebro for them.
They were building Sinister up to be this Thanos level villain for the Fox X-Men universe with him being hinted at in Apocalypse, Deadpool II and New Mutant. I think he was meant to be the main villain in Logan before they scrapped the idea and using different as well as being hinted at in the Beast solo movie that they also scrapped.
Personally I think he should’ve been the main villain in First Class or if they had to use Shaw and the Hellfire Club, don’t have them be part of Magneto’s origin story and save Sinister for the one of the prequel movie involving Scott and Jean.
Like maybe Scott is missing and Alex tries to find him with the help of Charles and Erik could also be involved because he knows Sinister as the one who experimented on him during WWII.
His name is "Mister Sinister" and that sounds fine to you because you bought in as a comic book. It's not an easy character to adapt and get normie audiences to be OK with.
Probably because he is generally obsessed with Scott and Jean and they were dead for a long time. Between 2006 and 2014 and when they returned they were underage, so his whole having them breed story would be extra creepy.
Magneto was only in the same spotlight twice in the movies: 1 and 3.
1: main villain, no doubt. 2: barely a villain, he even helped most of the times. 3: main villain, but not main antagonist (dark Phoenix on that). First Class he is almost protagonist. Days of fire past, yeah I can see some calling him a villain too, but also not that much since we got Sentinels, Trask, mystique all running up to that too. Apocalypse he again goes the same route as 3, but even less by now. And finally Dark Phoenix, where he seemed to be the only relatable character at all!

They were hinting at him in some of the later movies. He would've probably shown up eventually had Fox not been bought out.
