65% of the vote counted

Flávio Bolsonaro: 49.58%
Lula: 42.25%
Gap: Flávio +7.33 points

That does not look good for Lula

66

u/green_flash 5h ago

91% of the vote counted now and the gap has become much smaller:

Bolsonaro: 47.97%
Lula: 44.06%

At the very least, there's definitely gonna be a run-off vote.

38

u/green_flash 4h ago

99.4% counted and there's just 2.1% between them:

Bolsonaro: 47.15%
Lula: 45.02%

•

u/fapacunter 23m ago

It’s so over for us bro

21

u/jockoflanterns67 4h ago

Ended up with a ~2% difference, not good but not nearly as bad as 7.3%...

19

u/GMBong 3h ago

apparently Bolosnaro will gain more votes from the other candidates that won't run in the general than Lula will.

2

u/Obvious_Toe_3006 3h ago

Crazy days ahead.

•

u/iamdino0 1h ago

an understatement, it'd be shocking if Lula got even 10% of the third party vote in the runoffs

60

u/DadCelo 6h ago

Another Trump-lover win incoming...

•

u/Skate4Xeno 33m ago

the Amazon rainforest is going to be devastated over the next few years :(

262

u/BlossomStaar 6h ago

The guy whose dad is serving 27 years for a coup plot might actually win this thing and he’s running on being Trump’s best friend. Unbelievable.

108

u/omegamanXY 5h ago

The guy whose dad is serving 27 years for a coup plot

Don't worry, he'll pardon his sleazebag of a father first day in the office

19

u/JoJo_Embiid 5h ago

is this allowed by law? if yes i guess that is the main reason why those people vote for him

58

u/jellyfish_bitchslap 5h ago

Pardoning Bolsonaro and the people who stormed the capital in 2023 is a big part of his platform.

-5

u/JoJo_Embiid 5h ago

i missed the old days when power transitions are mostly peace and love without putting people in the cell..

i rarely heard of european countries, canada, or australia put their leaders in cell but it happens so often to latin american countries, south korea, i don't know why. the US is seemingly following suit as well

16

u/hungryhippo3-14 4h ago

Jair Bolsonaro absolutely deserves to be locked up. He attempted a coup to seize power after losing an election. What do you expect the justice system to do?

16

u/Cymraegpunk 4h ago

To be fair I doubt he would be in a cell if he hadn't tried to pull off a coup

3

u/Apyan 4h ago

When Lula was elected, I didn't understood why there was so much praise for the previous president. I now understand that it was the first time an elected president would pass the power to another one and this ritual is much more important than their differences. Bolsonaro wasn't there to transfer the power to Lula last time and people didn't really cared. This just show that our democracy is on life support for a long time.

9

u/Skyver 5h ago

Not exactly allowed but he'll have the majority in both houses AND he will have at least 4 seats to appoint in the Supreme Court so the law will basically just be a suggestion for him.

2

u/KassandraArms 5h ago

Doesn't matter. With the way that things are going, there will be no one to stop him.

1

u/gouveia00 3h ago

He got most of the Senate anyway. What is law?

•

u/AceWall0 1h ago

The same logic that got Lula out of prison can get Bolsonaro out.

Laws haven't been meaning shit lately

16

u/thcordova 5h ago

Yeah, we're fucked.

-7

u/Astolfo_QT 4h ago

who is we???? you aren't from brazil???

11

u/MostlyNoOneIThink 4h ago

Even if he doesn't, his party got so many seats of power that lula wouldn't be able to do shit if elected.

It's so fucking over for us.

6

u/JustaProton 2h ago

Evangelistão is each day getting closer to being a thing.

5

u/pikap83 1h ago

He is competing against a guy who has served 3 terms and wants a 4th and who barely won the previous election. Doesn't matter how you cut it, it was difficult to beat the political cycle. Simply is natural that politicans will lose supporters as they stay in power. People get enthusiastic by promises and change on any democracy. Once you become the status quo, unless you do something spectacular, you are destined to lose.

-2

u/YogurtclosetFormal37 4h ago

Lula has also been arrested right?

13

u/ClockworkSalmon 4h ago

And it was nullified because the case was flawed and there were multiple conflicts of interest. He didnt need to be pardoned.

•

u/AceWall0 1h ago

Same thing will happen with Bolsonaro and I wonder how this argument will age.

-10

u/Emanu1674 3h ago

The guy currently on power was in prison himself a few years ago for the largest corruption scandal in the world, so easy choice

5

u/LieutenantDuck 2h ago

This supposed "largest corruption scandal" was smaller than whatever Flavio Bolsonaro is involved. The Banco Master case is absurd, and people voting for it are a bunch of dumbasses.

198

u/RandoDude124 6h ago

Son of the guy who tried a coup is probably gonna win…

Fuck

72

u/techmago 6h ago

half of the coup guy family is already elected.

19

u/eskimospy212 6h ago

The current totals don’t look great but doing this based on early results is always a bad idea.

12

u/ContemplativeLemur 4h ago

Voting to lose the right to vote 👍

4

u/hungryhippo3-14 4h ago

Brazil seems to be copying American politics just 2 years behind.

12

u/NoSwordfish1978 6h ago

It's not certain at all that he will. Plus this is only the first round.

16

u/AquaMoonCoffee 6h ago edited 5h ago

Yes but he's over performing the polling by quite a lot, the vote is over halfway counted and a lot of the other candidates who would be eliminated for the runoff are from conservative and far right parties, Mission alone would give Bolsonaro an additional ~2-3% in a runoff, meaning if he finishes above 46-47% it's all but a guaranteed victory for him. He's currently at 49.6% with 65% of the vote in. 2nd round polling was already mostly favoring Bolsonaro going into this and his over performance sets him up for a very likely victory. We really need the last 30 or so percent tonight to swing heavily to Lula to keep this competitive.

edit: 90% in, Bolsonaro up 48.1%, combined with Mission is over 50%, even if Lula drew in every other voter possible it's still a loss and other parties won't break 100% to Lula to begin with. Runoff is at best a toss up if not lean Bolsonaro

1

u/StruggleEarly7191 5h ago

1

u/Yhamerith 5h ago

At the moment (95%), the difference is about ~3%... Like 4.5Mil votes... 9Mil votes for other candidates/invalid

All others candidates are right or right-center wings, unlike last one against Bolsonaro, there's none who will probably get his side

I really would like to be positive about the last round, but I can't

2

u/AquaMoonCoffee 5h ago

Agreed, theoretically Lula could win the runoff but it seems extremely unlikely at this point

1

u/NoSwordfish1978 6h ago

How likely is that?

6

u/AquaMoonCoffee 6h ago

The likelihood of him staying above 47% is quite high with the recent dump. If he falls under 47% it's going to be just barely and the runoff would still be in tossup territory. If he finishes above 47% it's going to be a very difficult 2 weeks for Lula

2

u/Separate-Marzipan-86 5h ago

13

u/Synchrotr0n 5h ago edited 5h ago

The trend in the Brazilian election is that whoever wins the first round will usually win the second one. In addition, the remaining presidential candidates on the current election will be less prone to form an alliance with Lula compared to the previous election, which is also a bad sign. Finally, Bolsonaro's party got a huge number of seats in congress, so even if Lula wins, he won't be able to govern.

It's all over for Brazil already. This shithole nation has zero future.

1

u/Kind-Instruction1994 5h ago

quem vota no renan a maioria nao vota no bozo. A questão é o eleitorado do augusto cury.

1

u/Thin-Limit7697 4h ago

Os debates creio que serão fundamentais ...

Se acontecerem

1

u/Kind-Instruction1994 3h ago

As emissoras vao marcar e essa é a maior questao.

Acabou.

2

u/ThatMovieShow 1h ago

Crazy part is hell get in have all the levers of power, fix nothing and still blame lula

2

Hence the word « probably ».

Baron Trump one day

8

u/BadmiralHarryKim 6h ago

I don't know anything about Brazilian politics but (as a rule of thumb based on other countries) smaller districts tend to finish counting first and those are often rural and conservative. Once again, I don't know anything about Brazilian politics, but in countries where I do follow elections the right wing candidate almost always starts out ahead and then their lead gradual chips down when the larger, urban districts get counted. They still frequently win but they need a strong lead at the start to have any chance of pulling it off at all.

Just an FYI from someone who doesn't follow sports but does follow elections.

26

u/MetricTrout 5h ago edited 5h ago

You are projecting what is true about US politics onto the whole world. This very much is not the case in Brazil; in fact, it's the opposite. In Brazil, rural areas vote left-wing, while urban centers vote right-wing.

Take a look at the results from the previous election in 2022. Bolsonaro lost the overall election, while comfortably winning Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. And while Washington DC is the most Democratic area in the US, in Brazil, Bolsonaro even won in Brasilia, the capital district.

7

u/eldomtom2 5h ago

I believe it's more of a north/south divide than an urban/rural divide.

6

u/KernelNuke 4h ago edited 4h ago

It's both. For instance São Paulo city tends to vote progressive (for president at least), whereas the São Paulo state has never elected a left-wing governor in history.

6

u/brprer 4h ago

That only applies in the USA. For example in Mexico the right wing mostly wins in cities that aren’t mexico city. This is mostly a US/Canada thing.

Rural mexico is mostly left wing. I suppose the same is in brazil.

2

u/KernelNuke 4h ago

Our northeastern rural areas are left wing, our center-west rural areas are right wing. It's complicated.

1

u/ThatMovieShow 1h ago

It's similar for the UK , cities mostly vote left and conservatives dominate rural places.

2

u/paubrasil_123 4h ago

Northeastern states are the ones remaining and they all skew left.

-1

u/jorsiem 6h ago

Imagine how terriblt you have to fumble your administration in order for this to happen lol

11

u/Birdonthewind3 6h ago

I mean... Just look at America

8

u/favorscore 6h ago

And Europe next year

-8

u/jorsiem 6h ago

America went from right to right. Also, the Democrats lost the election all on their own.

9

u/Birdonthewind3 6h ago

You know what your right. Might as well vote Trump on 2028 and accelerate the collapse of America any day now. Yes thousands or even millions can die in fascist purged but that is a sacrifice we are willing to make to bring that super special socialist utopia that will give everyone a puppy and detached suburban house

4

u/Carlangas420 6h ago

It's not just that; there was a lot of American interference in the region. Many Evangelical mega churches sent pastors to rural areas in Brasil in order to convince people to vote fascist or go to hell, that plus the spam of right wing propaganda in social media. It is what it is. Yes Lula isn't doing the best job but there's also foul play coming from the American right.

-3

u/jorsiem 6h ago

Yeah, not with this margin. People don't want Lula, simple as that.

13

u/Propagation931 6h ago

Looks like Trump will win / get his guy.

36

u/ozymandiasjuice 6h ago

Reuters is saying it’s expected to go to a runoff. Most of the remaining votes will tip to lula, and you need to retain 50% of the vote to win outright, so a bolsanaro victory tonight is unlikely

October 25 is the runoff.

26

u/zeazemel 5h ago

Yeah but it seems like in the run-off Bolsonaro will gather the votes of almost all third party candidates, Lula has little to no room for growth, he's stuck at 45-46%

10

u/mayorolivia 5h ago

Trump tried a coup and was re-elected so now it’s Brazil’s turn.

43

u/Enzhymez 6h ago

I thought Brazilians were a political solution to the Americans mistakes

67

u/Suspicious-Gap-8915 6h ago

South America as a whole has been pulling to the hard right again lately. I think what frustrates me is you see countries like Brazil, and in Europe with France & Germany, flirting with these far-right parties despite looking at what happened in Hungary and what's happening in the US & Argentina.

Kudos to our Canadian brothers & sisters for seeing the messes of the world and pivoting. It looks like everyone else has to learn their mistakes first hand (or get a second dose like Brazil)...

19

u/darkwater_throwaway 6h ago

Most of the people here likely have very little idea of what's happening in the far right governments across the world, unfortunately, and even if they hear about it there is a good chance it's from a whatsapp chain or mass media that does not give them unfavorable soundbites. They just see them as an easy solution to problems of crime/safety, economy, as well as punishing people they see as undesirable. It's sad.

37

u/pnd83 6h ago

They are facing propaganda machines backed by the same people as the U.S. The same that tried and still try in Canada, and the same that caused Brexit, and afd. It's not some coincidence that it's happening everywhere.

15

u/lcrtangls 6h ago

Yeah. Worldwide, at breakneck speed, electorates are ground into barely literate vibe zombies whose worldview can be boiled down entirely to whatever was on the screen the longest. And we're sitting here pretending anyone is looking at what was happening in Hungary.

You could argue this is nothing new, this is no different than the TV generations. But, at least in the west, most of TV adhered to a degree of journalistic standard. Think of that standard what you will, but it was always there and now that it can be entirely sidestepped via the internet, it's pretty obvious how important it was.

1

u/Respwn_546 5h ago

the world sadly founds in this situation where no goverment can fix everything and also are full of corruption scandals that make people vote for the other side again, they fumble even more and the pick the other side but the alternative (ussually the more extreme version)

4

u/LosCarlitosTevez 6h ago

I’m not really sure what you mean is “happening to Argentina”, because inflation is significantly down and while the economy has been stagnant as it is expected when reducing inflation, things seem to be trending the right way (salaries slowly increasing, access to credit is increasing, investments increasing)

22

u/musashisamurai 6h ago

Argentina only avoided disaster because others were willing to bail them out. They arent a success story.

11

u/pepecachetes 5h ago

we weren't a success story by the left government either, considering they left the country with 25% *monthly* inflation, I think people don't grasp how bad things were, I can certainly agree that Milei's social values look quite bad, but I'd rather have that idiot screaming crap than the "politically correct" absurd inflation and populism (because spending loans on state mandated prices and frozen rents is... not reasonable by any means long term)

-10

u/LosCarlitosTevez 6h ago

Lol at you. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens in next year’s elections.

1

u/musashisamurai 4h ago

And Trumpism was an economic disaster, and yet many Americans would vote for him again. Its not elections you should consider but results

-1

u/SgtKcwb 3h ago

I live in Argentina. You're just wrong lmfao. Trump bailed out Milei. I'm not saying that the Kirchner party was that much better, but at least people could afford dinner, rent, and find ways to navigate the system and buy a house. Now everyone is screwed that doesn't already have property or wealth. The amount of misinformation that comes from Milei's party is crazy.

0

u/Enzhymez 6h ago

Until you see what Canadiens have to say about Indians

4

u/BurnTheBoats21 6h ago

6ixbuzz comment section has virtually no political representation btw. And there are no anti-indian parties in parliament

1

u/Birdonthewind3 6h ago

It goes up and down all the time. Just the nature of politics currently

0

u/BurnTheBoats21 6h ago

Doesn't help that the left wing in many south american countries is completely batshit insane. You really can't compare the brazillian left wing with the opposition in european parliaments who are far more moderate and normal

1

u/Randomly_Generated_3 2h ago

It's a mistake to see the Brazilian right as a parallel to the European or even the American right and you foreigners should realize this. The Brazilian right wing (I refuse to use "far-right' because it implies radicalization where there's none), though influenced by the American right, is mostly powered by popular contempt for the left-wing party (which has ruled the country for 3/4 of the millennium as of yet), as a lot of people feel like the left government hasn't done anything to solve extremely important issues like violence. Our right is comparable to the American right, in that it mostly consists of conservative people, but the electoral dynamics and the issues are unique to the country and fairly understandable. The right wing also isn't far-right, they're just populist opportunists, because there literally wasn't any serious ideological shift neither on the left nor on the right that would justify suddenly rebranding the entire traditional right as far-right. Look at your average maga or average afd, and a Brazilian "far-right" politician will look moderate in comparison. I'm not a Flávio Bolsonaro voter by the way I just think they're moronic conmen.

-5

u/Separate-Marzipan-86 5h ago

Tu fala isso mas não conhece a realidade de um governo da esquerda no poder, a conta não tá fechando aqui no Brasil, já estamos no vermelho há muito tempo

12

u/mdubs17 6h ago

South America generally goes from left to right and then back again. Bad leadership will do that

1

u/eldomtom2 5h ago

Generally the consensus is that the recent "right-wing wave" in Latin America is more motivated by "throw the incumbents out" than any actual ideological shift. It's quite plausible that come next election the current incumbents will be thrown out as well.

3

u/Randomly_Generated_3 2h ago

Pretty much, which is why it's redundant and even damaging to look at it as a parallel to European right wing parties.

3

u/SShadowFox 4h ago

Brazil is like the US, just with all negatives and none of the positives. Trump won in 2016, Bolsonaro won in 2018, Trump lost in 2020, Bolsonaro lost in 2022, Trump got elected in 2024 because Biden had an unpopular government, Bolsonaro can't be elected because he's in jail, so his son is on the dispute and he might actually win because Lula led an unpopular government.

I'm pissed, not because I'm a fan o Lula, but because of all the right-wing candidates, people really chose the absolute worst one by all measures.

1

u/MKW69 6h ago

Brics supporter not gonna help .

12

u/Tuxecutor 4h ago

So basically Chileans and Brazilians were mocking us Argentinians for voting Milei... yet they go and vote for Kast and Bolsonaro...

Give me a break...

16

u/Educational_Idea997 6h ago

Please someone explain brazilian politics to me. I don’t know much about it. Ithought Lula was the champion of the people an Bolsonaro the crooked son of a crook?

35

u/Last-Woodpecker 6h ago

Same thing with Trump in USA, the extreme right has a strong core, nothing they would do makes them lose votes. If the left, in the other hand, does 1% os the things right do, they would be crucified in public square.

26

u/Olahoen 6h ago

Social media bubbles, same effect that elected Trump in 2016.

20

u/DecembersDragons 6h ago

Lula's done time in jail too. In Brazilian politics it's less like a black mark and more like street cred.

2

u/pikap83 1h ago

Lula is not the champion of the people outside of Reddit. He is highly unpopular at the moment. Actually both are very unpopular, but simply are the status quo figures due to the lack of newer faces. People voted not for, but against a candidate. Few voted for Lula, most voted against Bolsonaro. Few voted for Bolsonaro, most voted against Lula.

•

u/nyctransitgeek 1h ago

“We won’t get fooled again!”

2

u/Eilanzer 2h ago

Lula did nothing in years, country is fucked...So when one side goes to the extreme left...The pendulum goes to the right~

2

u/Vawned 6h ago

Exactly that, and us Brazilians are fucking stupid.

Lula (and PT) helped the poor grow out of poverty, the people not in poverty hated it, so anything not-PT is a win for them, no matter all the (true) scandals behind it.

6

u/CanadianControlsTech 6h ago

What are the expectations for Bolsanaro? Why would be poeple support him when he supports his father in prison? In prison for literally trying to rob you of your democracy? I don't live there so maybe I don't know jack shit.

16

u/Vawned 6h ago

The expectations is: he ain't PT.

I kid you not. That is it. He could kick a baby in broad daylight and it wouldn't change shit.

2

u/CanadianControlsTech 6h ago

That doesn't make sense. Maybe I have a bias as the Brazilian I've met here are a smart bunch. We are talking about democracy. Do they not know what this means?

3

u/Vawned 6h ago

I feel you. Yes. It doesn't make any sense. But it is exactly that. I'm a teacher, have been for the past 17 years. I failed.

It's just... I don't know, stranger. People are stupid.

3

u/CanadianControlsTech 6h ago

What do you teach? Can you come to Canada? My Brazilian acquaintances talked about some of the downsides of being there. What's happening now is pretty much the reason they said that they left. The corruption and the people begging for more of it destroyed their hopes. It was hard for me to believe, but not as much now...

3

u/Vawned 6h ago

I am an English as Second Language teacher (exclusively working on public schools), I am also eligible to teach Portuguese. Maybe my skills could be used over there (I am very fond of Canada). I am honestly considering moving out, in some way (I knew that even if Lula won, we would just be delaying the horror, we wouldn't have names for 2030).

I am having a BBQ with other teacher friends right now at my home. The despair is unreal.

4

u/Apyan 4h ago

3

u/CanadianControlsTech 5h ago

You should seriously consider it. If not canada somewhere else. The states is way too risky imo. Even though you guys fucking love America, I strongly recommend against it with how they've treated legal immigrants as of late.

Just an FYI, the best chance you would have currently is if you spoke French for obtaining PR. Now, I don't know how the future would change, but this is what's currently giving people a bunch of points in order to obtain it.

4

u/Vawned 5h ago

Oh yeah. USA is a no go for me, ever.

Yeah, I will get back to my French lessons (it isn't that hard for me due to be a romance language and the closeness to English).

For now, I'm just going to drown my sorrows and see what I'll work on it later.

Thanks, mate.

3

u/Acceptable_Bat379 5h ago

I know exactly what you mean. This sounds like the USA. People who dont like trump still vote for him because he's not a democrat. Years of conditioning works unfortunately.

2

u/MaximumFamiliar9080 6h ago

People are fucking regarded until it crashes and burns

1

u/ClassyPerson 2h ago

Maybe I have a bias as the Brazilian I've met here are a smart bunch.

You have met them outside of Brazil, right? Just taking my assumption as correct, that usually means people that can afford to travel abroad, meaning, educated people.

If I assumed it wrong, my bad, but my point is that the Real is not a strong currency, so it is few the number of Brazilians that can travel abroad, most either have money, or are abroad in exchange programs. Usually those groups are of educated people.

If you ask the average Brazilian to point out which policies in a list are right-leaning and which are left-leaning, they will struggle to correctly categorize all of them.

Also, polarization has gotten to such an extreme that right and left are mostly associated with people and parties, political identity and loyalty to particular groups take precedence over actually understanding or evaluating what a candidate proposed policies actually entail.

12

u/philmaq 5h ago

Bolsonaro supporters live in their own alternate reality just like MAGA in the US. To them Lula is a dictator and we currently live in a dictatorship and Bolsonaro is their fearless leader that was unjustly imprisoned. It is complete delusion.

3

u/Emanu1674 3h ago

Lula being innocent is also delusion. He was literally in prison for the worst scandal in history.

1

u/CanadianControlsTech 5h ago edited 5h ago

Yeah, but it looks like the majority of Brazilians love him... This doesn't bode well because they look no different than Americans to me right now. If anything, worse given the fact that more of the population are actually voting. He's a known p.o.s. and people still want him to represent and rule over you?

2

u/Apyan 4h ago

The thing is that Lula is definitely a stablishemnt politician by now. We don't have any progressive name that's not killed in the womb by some crazy culture war discussion. So the left is stuck with Lula and all the stained legacy of a corrupt system. The people in the middle, the ones that truly decide elections, end up seeing Bolsonaro's flaws as no worse than the stablishemnt, so they vote for change. It doesn't make sense if you try to look at it from a rational point of view, but emotions is what really drive people to decide whom to support. I'm really sad for my country, but honestly, we're just another domino falling in the right wing take over. Who's left in the world to say that western democracies are functional? Canada is seen as the major representative as they showed some kind of union in their last election, but that only happened cause Trump was meddling with them. If not from that, they too would be leaning to the right.

No, it did not...The country is fucked! Lula did NOTHING and people are broken!

Why you speak like a Trumper?

u/Schneider915 4h ago

Brazil is heavily affected by US tendencies and media manipulation

The most used social medias here are all from META and you can clearly see that far-right influencers and politicians have much more exposition on their social media posts. It's a very elaborate manipulation that took a decade of anti-PT narratives to pick up steam.

The hate against Lula's party and his figure is unreal really. I admit he's not the most competent politician but it got waay out of proportion

3

u/moonslyy 6h ago

oh well, we are fucked so hard i don't even want to face reality today

4

u/GustavoistSoldier 6h ago

I'm watching the returns on live TV. Flávio Bolsonaro is leading.

2

u/Separate-Marzipan-86 5h ago

O cenário está bem otimista para a direita, a maioria dos governantes e senadores confirmados são da direita, mas ainda não vai ser no primeiro turno que sai o resultado para presidente

2

u/busburnbooty 5h ago

PT voters cheered when Lula won, then too many treated politics like a four-year subscription they’d already paid for instead of staying engaged, holding their own politicians accountable, organizing, and confronting the fascist movement in the weeds, so they sat back while that shit rebuilt itself and now they’re shocked the same toxic garbage is crawling back.

4

u/HardstButton2Button 6h ago

Man this sucks, I'd hate to have to boycott Brazilian stuff as well now.

5

u/EduardBon 6h ago

Lula and Bolsonaro. We are fucked here in Brazil

2

u/BleaKrytE 1h ago

Btw, not only is Bolsonaro probably going to win, his party took a landslide win for Congress. It's a full blown disaster.

3

u/HaskellColleen 4h ago

As a Brazilian, I couldn't be more disappointed.

Bolsonaro — the son — is leading the vote count from what was our first round of voting. In the runoff, he will vie for the presidency against Lula alone.

Much of this is due to heavy media interference and right-wing propaganda on social media (both domestic and foreign — originating in the US), but also to the average Brazilian's failure to remember the dictatorship that nearly took hold last time — not to mention the Bolsonaro administration's negligence during the pandemic and all the financial and social scandals, including the current Vorcaro case involving Flávio Bolsonaro.

It devastates me to know that Bolsonaro has a strong chance of winning the runoff, given that he led the first round and will also pick up votes from other right-wing candidates who didn't make the cut.

And, if elected, he will sell off Brazil and its rare-earth minerals to Trump, unleash his aspiring-dictator father, and turn the lives of ordinary Brazilians into a living hell — to say nothing of the blistering assault that will be launched against the democratic rule of law, assuming it still exists by then.

As a brazilian I’m very happy.

Now you’ll have to endure what we did for last what, 20 years?

Ridiculous statement.

u/Alexandrecl1 2h ago

Cry me a river, Petista de merda.

1

u/chortogrower 2h ago

-1

u/Alexandrecl1 2h ago

And we will win. Actually, we already won. Did you see our congress? Lmao

You’ll have to endure this pain seu fedido

0

u/chortogrower 1h ago

I know you won. If you are happy for criminals and billionaires to rule you that's your problem. let's see who you'll blame when these grifters ruin you in the next years.

0

u/Ethenil_Myr 4h ago

You had to endure climate collapse for the past 20 years?

1

u/MKW69 6h ago

From my international care, i can't take either choices as good. Lula been soft on Putin, but Bolsonaro is crazy.

9

u/DryOwl5587 6h ago

Russia is literally a non-issue to Brazil, directly at least. The only one that matters is the Great Satan up north.

5

u/GustavoistSoldier 6h ago

As a Brazilian, I completely agree.

2

u/BlueCity8 3h ago

Apparently not enough bc they just elected to be the US’ vassal state lol.

1

u/DryOwl5587 3h ago

What can I say, the CIA was very effective when they introduced evangelical churches to Brazil. And Brazilians are a very, very, very stupid and ignorant bunch.

u/favorscore 6h ago

Tyranny anywhere is a threat to liberty everywhere

RIP Amazon rainforest.

4

u/Last-Satisfaction333 5h ago

It is already burning, I can see it from my window here in Sao Paulo.

All those giraffes and elephants running around, It's so heartbreaking.

I'm in tears

2

u/CarpeDiem_paz 5h ago

Yeah and you know what? The People's Republic of China planted 66 billion trees over the last several decades, with 30 billion more planned. Why in the hell is Brazil and the rest of the world not doing this? Wake up people. Stop blaming socialism, stop blaming Russia blah blah. People need to seriously wake up. The billionaire-capitalists and corrupt churches are responsible for all of this. The planet cannot handle big ass families anymore, and it certainly cannot handle eternal greed.

1

u/Genevieve_Vavance743 4h ago

That's a neat factoid but look up the worlds largest polluters and you'll see those trees are a fart in the wind compared to the damage China is doing to the climate.

4

u/GustavoistSoldier 6h ago

Russia has never been a threat to Brazil, so Lula's stance on the Ukraine war is justified.

-1

u/favorscore 6h ago

He should be even more harsh if russia doesnt pose a threat

1

u/GustavoistSoldier 6h ago

How so? I don't understand your logic.

1

u/alecp 6h ago

If Russia is not a threat to Brazil, then that would allow a Brazilian politician to take a stance against Russia without fear of repercussions. So if Lula is soft on Russia, it's because he genuinely feels that way and not because he is worried about geopolitics/oil, etc.

-1

u/this_is_my_r4r_acct 6h ago

Bolsonaro literally wants to sell Brazil to Trump, who is selling America to Putin. Lula merely doesn't want to drag Brazil into a war on the other side of the globe.

4

u/strikerrage 5h ago

Nonsense Lula was being a self serving bastard just like Trump. He wanted to end the war and get the credit for being the guy who ended the war. Thats why Ukraine told him to shove it with his peace proposal and his "both sides are wrong" rhetoric was criticised by many countries.

-1

u/DigSpelledBackwards 6h ago

Am i blind? This article says nothing about the polls.

7

u/cauliflowermonster 6h ago

They just closed, votes are being tallied

-2

u/DryOwl5587 6h ago

Bolsonaro is leading by a landslide even as more than 60% of votes have been counted

7

u/Bigwheatcollector 6h ago

48-43 isn't a landslide 😂

-1

u/DryOwl5587 6h ago

Yeah, I exaggerated a bit. It was more than 10% a few minutes ago.

1

u/Totodilis 4h ago

CIA worked overtime for this one jfc

u/MostlyNoOneIThink 4h ago

Bolsonaro's party elected so many people that we're fucked either way. If Lula wins he won't be able to do anything, and if Flavio wins he'll be able to do everything.

It's a very fucked up situation.

-20

u/Keitoteki 6h ago

Almost 20 years of mental slavery needs to end. Let Lula disappear and be forgotten already. I don't even need Flavio to win, I just need Lula to lose, let my people be free and learn how to think again

1

u/jellyfish_bitchslap 5h ago

If Flávio wins we may not even be a sovereign nation for too long tho. He formally promised to put his transition office at the disposal of Trump if elected before even being sworn in. We may as well just return to be a colony region just like Venezuela is doing under the USA puppet.

-2

u/Keitoteki 5h ago

Nobody outside of tik tok and instagram believes any of that BS, stop embarassing yourself

There is literally a formal document sent from Flávio do Rubio stating that, you sound like those people from Don’t Look Up lol.

Bold of you to assume after I watched Trump get reelected after every single horrific thing done that I still believe in democracy.

Believe it or not? Minds can change.

And everyone watched what happened in his first term and more than half the country voted for it again.

I still vote because it’s the system we have. I have absolutely zero faith in democracy anymore and genuinely do not believe everyone should have the right to vote.

I don’t know what the qualifications should be. I think kings and queens have too much power.

But the average person is too fucking stupid to have a say in government. No ability to think long term and only fights for short term gains then is shocked when long term things crumble. Freaking out over a trans panic that doesn’t exist. Worshipping a fucking podcaster. Watching January 6th and seeing those monsters as patriots and innocent. Voting to allow mega corporations to form and not voting for protections that would do nothing but good for everyone except the rich. Not understanding money is finite and needs to be flowing and that having billionaires is a sign your society is NOT healthy. Acting like COVID is a hoax. Leveling cities for freeways and intentionally creating ghettos while stealing those cities tax funds for suburbs that can’t support themselves then blaming the cities for the problem they enable because god forbid they think about anything big picture.

No, sorry, I don’t believe in a system that means those people have the same value of input on society anymore.

Democracy is literally just a popularity contest aimed at getting the most amount of morons to vote for you. And only worked well when less people voted. Because having people in power that know what they’re doing requires well-educated people voting for people who know what they’re doing rather than just saying what they’d like.

u/Randomly_Generated_3 2h ago

Average redditor be like: (they have 0 capacity or wish to understand why people vote a way)
