First pic was at the bottom of the first, second was towards the end of the game. It’s insane how much attendance improved at the end of the year once everyone realized the Sox are so back

Media Sam Antonacci is asked what his reaction was to Munetaka Murakami’s go ahead 2 run home run. He confesses that he was hiding in the batting cage, eating an ice cream at the time. His teammate Miguel Vargas hears about this and called a child that needs to be looked after.

Opinion A Newbie's Ode to the Sox... and Murakami

Hi everyone. This is my first post to the White Sox subreddit. I haven't followed baseball in many years but I heard about Murakami back when he was still on Japanese soil and was so excited about his potential that all the sudden, my fandom was triggered again. Then, Murakami landed in Chicago and felt like it was a fine team for him to at, as I was a fan of the Sox back when Bo Jackson played for the squad. I tend to follow a single player, not necessarily a team since the state I live in doesn't have any MLB team. I'm sort of a free agent in that regard. But, I haven't had a team I cared about since, well, Bo Jackson played and lost touch with the game.

Over the months, I watched Mune crush ball after ball and upvoted the White Sox subreddit posts like crazy, reading everything about him and the team. It wasn't long before it wasn't just about Mune. It was just as much about the the team as it is so clear what an incredible crew they are. They are lighthearted, fun, funny, absolutely loaded with talent, young enough to not know how far they have come but old enough to keep making this deep, post season run. Basically, I respect the team so much as I have learned about each one of them and seen how they all pull together to put together this really special squad they have. I'm still a big Mune fan (who isn't!?!) but the Sox team has really changed me to think bigger. I'm proud to be here and enjoy the show they are putting on and the awesome subreddit everyone keeps contributing to.

Let's go boys! 2 more against Cleveland!!

Discussion Grant Taylor can cement himself as a postseason legend

I am still in awe about what Taylor has done so far in these playoffs and decided to do some digging into postseason history to find something comparable.

The closest thing I found so far was Andrew Miller's 2016, Francisco Rodríguez' 2002, and Mariano Rivera's 2003:

Andrew Miller
ALDS: 4IP, 0ER, 7Ks
ALCS: 7.1IP, 0ER, 14Ks
WS: 7.2IP, 3ER, 9Ks
Total: 10G, 19.1IP, 3ER, 30Ks (7 games of 2IP or more, max 2.2)

Miller's postseason is considered one of, if not the most, dominant postseason pitching performance ever by a reliever.

Francisco Rodríguez
ALDS: 5.2IP, 2ER, 8Ks
ALCS: 4.1IP, 0ER, 7Ks
WS: 8.2IP, 2ER, 13Ks
Total: 11G, 18.2IP, 4ER, 28Ks (5 games of 2IP or more, max 3)

Mariano Rivera
Rivera had a few years where he absolutely dominated a postseason, but he only had 1 year where he was used for 2 innings or more consistently. In 2003, Rivera appeared in 8 games, 7 of which were for at least 2 innings. In G7 against Boston, he threw 3 innings.

ALDS: 4IP, 0ER, 4Ks
ALCS: 8IP, 1ER, 6Ks
WS: 4IP, 0ER, 4Ks
Total: 8G, 16IP, 1ER, 14Ks

Now for Taylor..

Grant Taylor
WC: 2.1IP, 0ER, 5Ks
ALDS: 4.0IP, 0ER, 6Ks (so far)
ALCS: ?
WS: ?
Total: 2G, 6.1IP, 0ER, 11Ks

It took Miller 10 games to get to 19.1IP. If Taylor had 10 games he could be in the 25-35IP range.

If the White Sox continue to win and move through the playoffs, and if Taylor continues with his usage and performance, he could cement himself as the most dominant single postseason weapon in MLB history. This could be the beginning of a legendary postseason performance and I am paying close attention to it.

Opinion roster management

During the last week of the regular season, I tried to channel my anxiety about potentially facing Houston on the road to how the Sox would structure their postseason roster, along with the pitfalls that sunk other teams that struggled in October.

Watching the young arms carry the squad on their tired backs during the last two months, and then seeing a couple Burke and Martin hiccups coincide with a moderately successful return of Schultz and Sandlin from AAA had me wondering: shouldn't the organization just go all-in on the young guns? I'm not sure what level of collaboration between Getz and Venable went into this decision, but I don't think I've ever been as pleased with how a postseason roster was constructed with the parts available.

Since that's half the battle, kudos as well to Venable's in-game strategy that has allowed the extended bullpen to work within their strengths, and the trust in Smith and Taylor to anchor this squad. The days off certainly play in their favor, but could anyone debate running these two guys for multiple innings every other game this postseason? I'm giddy with how perfect that plan has worked to this point!

Discussion Colson Montgomery

Very underrated part of yesterday, obviously Mune’s absolute tank job & Grant Taylor shoving were the big stories and reasons why we won. But Colson put together some very competitive at bats and has been trending up, which is huge for our Sox!

Media Murakami on what made him decide to join the White Sox: "This is what it’s all about for me. My goal was to make the postseason like this and win together as a team. So, yeah, I think being here right now and seeing this become reality is really everything for me."

Discussion Stadium Viewing Party for Game 2?

How much overhead do you think it costs to open the stadium? (Security, maintenance, cleaners, some vendors, etc)?

Wondering if it would have been worth it to sell tickets at $10 a piece, sell most food items, and let everyone sit where they wanted 🤷‍♂️
