Neal getting excited about Peter's plan is always a dangerous sign

Post image

One of my favorite things about Neal and Peter is that Neal can go from completely bored with an FBI case to genuinely excited the second Peter gives him something interesting to work with. In Flip of the Coin, Peter basically gives Neal access to a mountain of files and Neal immediately starts complaining about how boring it is. Then Peter reminds him: “I got something better. I got you.” And Neal instantly perks up. Peter knows exactly how to motivate him.

I wouldn't say Neal perks up after Peter says that. He's resigned to his fate.

And the fact that a season and a half later he calls back to that very moment (in Power Play) shows that he's not forgotten about the way Peter treated him there! 😂

It was a diss, both times.

I don't remember it playing that way. "I've got something better" as I recall was not in that context.

“I got something better. I got you.” is such a Peter line because he knows Neal will hear that as both an insult and a compliment.

Many studios (including Hulu), passed on it. Rumor is, they did so because the reboot of Suits went so poorly and thus they don’t (see are to scared to) want to risk another show from that similar time period.

The only time I remember he said that is when Peter asked Neal to bring him coffee and Neal kinda questioning that

That was the callback to this scene in season 1. In 2x15 (Power Play) Neal pretends to be Peter and asks him to get him coffee (cream, no sugar!). When Peter then points out that they have probies for that, Neal says "I have something better. I have you." A direct call back to this scene in Flip of the Coin where Peter said that to get Neal to get the files.
