original work 🎨 I ended my relationship of 6 years and this is how I’ve been processing it…
I’m not very good at telling stories or explaining myself through words, but I hope this translates…
I’ve had this satin night gown set for a few years now. I bought it at a vintage store in Victoria with the intention of wearing it on my wedding day with my partner (now ex). Long story short, we didn’t work out. Our values and goals for the future just didn’t line up anymore, and we loved each other too much to hold each other back. So we said our goodbyes.
So while I was packing up my stuff last week, I saw this set and I thought about the hopes and dreams that I envisioned myself in it and thought, this I will also have to say goodbye to. So I messaged my friend, we drove out to the lake as a storm was about to roll in and started taking photos.
I have always felt a deep connection to water. Water symbolizes emotional depth, transformation, and healing. And this may sound a bit macabre, but I’ve always been so fascinated by images of drowning women, like Ophelia from Hamlet. The concept I had for this particular shoot was that I wanted to symbolically drown this part of me that was now ending.
I don’t know what I’ll do with the set now. I’m thinking that I’ll keep holding on to it and use it for more photoshoot concepts until it’s worn and ripped to shreds. I think seeing the deformation of that would be quite moody and dramatic, and I am all about everything moody, whimsical, and dramatic.
That’s all. I just wanted to say that if you’re going through something similar as I am…a death of some sorts…I want you to know that this too shall pass. The pain and the memories will ebb and flow like the waves until they’re barely a whisper. That’s what I’m hoping for anyway.
Love,
Selene
Update:
Hello everyone, I just want to say thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all your kind words and sympathies. I was not expecting all of this engagement on my post so I am quite overwhelmed but only because I want to take the time to comment back to all of you!
So again, thank you all so much! I will keep you all updated on what I end up doing with my set. I think I will continue making art concepts with it. We will see how it goes :)

original work 🎨 Restored this crusty celestial lamp today
Found it on ebay all chipped and nasty but really cheap a while back and finally got around to fixing it up today. Was a nice Sunday project. I LOVE the purple shades on it so much. My room has such a pretty pinkish glow right now.

original work 🎨 My new window!
All acrylic paint; it’s renter friendly, thankfully. I just need to spray it with dawn powerwash, cover it in plastic wrap, and let it soak for a little bit before I peel it off. I’m especially proud of the blue translucent effect- I got that with several layers of gloss pthalo blue thinned waaaaaaay the hell out in gloss medium. I need to do some details on the stars and then do a similar effect as the blue ”glass” with violet instead to add some extra color on the bottom strip. I’m thrilled with how it came out!! I felt like I learned so much this time around, and I’m excited for what I’ll be able to do at my next place.

original work 🎨 I just finished my star, sun and moon papier mache and hung them on my wall >.<
Also the purple star in the 2nd slide was a failed one that I painted anyways because why not. Everything on these walls is a DIY minus the mirror and the mask, which were both thrifted.
There is still lots of empty space that I'm trying to think of ways to fill up.

original work 🎨 I did it! I got my own vintage moon photo!
My bf and I went to a Valentine’s Day event with a classic moon photo spot. Noticed it on the way out and was giddy. I’m scared to put photos of myself on reddit, but this community is nice.

original work 🎨 My latest thrift flip goes kinda nuts 🤭🤭
I’m not even waiting to take a nicer photo because I’m so excited, I just snapped a pic on my bathroom floor for you guys!! The glue is actively drying but after it’s sealed it’ll be on my etsy shop blackcatcabinetry. For this piece I snagged the base off fb marketplace because I saw potential in the doors with the poles, I painted the entire thing blue, then used air dry clay in celestial molds to make the charms! After baking them in the oven to harden, I painted them gold and picked all the spots for placement and committed with the craft glue which is scarier than it sounds. Anyway I really hope this sub enjoys my work again!! Thanks so much for the love on my other pieces lately too 💕

original work 🎨 I make Crystal Spiders ✨
I hand form, weld, and solder stainless steel armatures so each spider has adjustable posing and use all glass/crystal beads (no plastic or acrylic) and use a heat-cured enamel paint for the booty 🖤✨

original work 🎨 Handmade a whimsigoth couch shelf for my knitted frog
I’ve been making couch floating shelves for a little while now, but I think this one might be my favourite. Definitely the most whimsical corner of my house 🥹✨

original work 🎨 “The Jackalope” Another whimsigoth drawing I made
Because who doesn’t love cryptids. Colors were made with marker, linework and shading was made with ballpoint. And, for some incredibly ill-advised reason I also filled the background with ballpoint pen.

original work 🎨 Earrings and bracelets I made for my friend
My friend has this awesome blouse with stars and the prettiest purple witches hat I ever saw, so I felt inspired to make her some matching jewellery.
Hope you guys like it as well ❤️ (and RIP my fingernails during the crafting process 🥲 - still worth it, though)
