Question / Discussion 3d Camera Options
I'm still pretty new to VFX, and I've been working on a personal project for a bit, but I'm struggling to figure out a 3D camera track for it.
I'm just a student, so the only programs I have access to are Adobe stuff, Blender, and Unreal.
I'm working on getting a roto (which I can do) of Jameson out, then 3D-tracking him into Blender and adding him to a 3D scene I've made. I've tried AE's tracker and Blender, and neither does a decent job. I've looked into plug-ins and such, but they haven't been very helpful.
I've seen programs that can do a shot like this, PFTrack, SynthEyes, etc., but I just can't afford that type of stuff, as I'm just doing VFX as a hobby/learning on the side for now. Is any version of a decent track possible for this shot, or is it best to move on?
Any ideas?
For now, I'm just keyframing the footage and camera in Blender to hopefully get a somewhat decent-looking job.

For 3D Camera tracking, its important to roto out and remove ALL moving objects, especially the people. This gives the tracker only physical, static 3D objects in the scene to build the data. If you are trying to track this scene without cutting them out first, it will result in a bad track.

Gotcha, ok, so if I roto out the people, then use that clip within blenders 3d cmaera track, I may get better results? Then, once I have my camera data, can I swap it back to my Jameson roto?

Yep! That should (hopefully) do it. I don't know blender at all but that would be the process in most software.

Are you just trying to extract the motion data of the camera? Blender should be able to get that for you with the camera track function and using the high contrast edges of the window
