This is actually great news! Two things that are not correctly displayed in the article: 1. Last year, the Swiss government passed a resolution about importimg fur, whereas this year, sales were included AND it was all transformed into a law. The last part being the important part because now, penalties can be enforced. 2. The fur industry tried to get involved into the lawmaking process which was DENIED. There is much reason for hope in this case!

That should be the standard for an important cause like this. Excellent.

I am smiling at the thought of the Russian oligarch wives in Switzerland being pissed off about this

Nice news but... didn't Israel do it first? Or did it not ban imports?

Has an exemption for those silly hats the ultra-Orthodox wear, which is by far the most common form of fur anybody wore there (not a lot of people wearing fur coats in hot Mediterranean climates)

Well, who'd expect this damned gov't to listen to its own animal welfare laws anyway.

You know, now that you mention it I think that is correct. They passed some sort of fur ban.

Let’s go, Switzerland! I was so disappointed seeing real fur at the renaissance fair this weekend. I thought even non-vegans agreed it was bad.

It's not clear from reading the article, so could someone confirm? Did they ban ALL fur imports and sales, or is it still only those "using methods involving cruelty to animals"?

I went and got a clarification on that. There is still some tbd to this, but Switzerland already bans fur trapping and fur farming as being cruel, so it seems we are in a good place here.
