I wish the Greens would show this level of enthusiasm for, oh I dunno, maybe the environment?

'They also voted to commit the party to supporting a "single democratic Palestinian State"
Not a hopelessly naive motion at all, no no. I'm sure the region is awash with countries full of love and peace between different religious and ethnic groups with centuries-old blood feuds.
Oh wait...

It’s just Westerners being sheltered and not capable of perceiving different cultures, their attitudes and their realities
Ask an Israeli, he’ll tell you why do you want us to die? No way we’ll become a minority under Arab rule. Look at Gaza, look at every other Middle Eastern country.
Ask a Palestinian he’ll say are you kidding, we want all the Yahudis gone like the French in Algeria, from the River To The Sea, Palestine will be Arab!
A one state solution has no supporters on the ground. Marxist academics and delusional human rights activists are the only people promoting it
It’s the same form of mass delusion that leads to wanting unrestricted immigration despite our native populations crippling fertility rate, knowing that throughout human history this has only led to conflict after a certain point is reached
They would see fit to gamble the Israeli and Palestinian people on a hypothetical project that has literally never worked in the Middle East with only Arabs, never mind two groups who hate each other, and would possibly spark civil war that would make the recent war look like a skirmish in comparison.
This is all so they can seem morally superior to others on the internet. Thats literally it

Another problem is neither Hamas nor Israel want a two state solution. They each want a one state solution, with themselves in the driving seat.
•
u/Magneto88 8h ago
'Israel' offered Palestine a two party state repeatedly throughout the 90s and early 00s. The Palestinian leadership rejected it. Israel also unilaterally pulled out of Gaza in 04 and look at what a disaster Hamas made of it.
'Israel' is not Netanyahu or his current political alignment.

Is that in addition to Israel or to replace it?
•
u/ConcertoOf3Clarinets 8h ago
Replace it
•
u/PeaGravy 8h ago
Well that’ll go down like a cup of cold sick. I assume they are not expecting to have a commons majority any time soon.
•
u/Soft-Ice-8027 4h ago
Are you judging people by their actions of their ancestors? I thought Zionists opposed blood guilt.
•
u/Unlikely-Nebula-331 3h ago
I was speaking to a Zionist Jew who’s a human rights lawyer. He said there’s a very strong consensus amongst Israeli’s to have a one-state solution, even if the name of that state is Palestine. But that belief gets washed away because of the hard right.
That was refreshing to hear.

Reform’s hyper-fixation on immigration isn’t doing much for the ordinary Brit as well just so yk
•
u/Sigeon101 10h ago
Good thing Reform and Greens aren't the only parties in the country then!
Greens have HEAVILY hyper focused on zionism racism the last few weeks, I'd say both Reform and Greens are guilty of the same thing, populist hyper focusing on one issue to rile up their target voter base.
Of course the difference is that mass immigration actually affects people in this country. Palestine is a moral issue. 250,000 women and girls weren't SA'd or people almost beheaded in the streets because we didn't support Palestine.

Motion that will have zero effect on the outside world, but causes all sorts of issues for internal politics within the party.
Well thought through, sure it's going to be fine...

u/junglebunglerumble 13h ago
Its wild how quickly the Greens have gone from the "naive but well meaning party with a few good policies" to outright racism, Israel-obsessed and borderline islamist party
19
u/virusofthemind 13h ago
The Greens were a perfect host for Islamic penetration, naive, well intentioned and very susceptible as a cat's paw for furthering Islamic political doctrine.
The Lib Dems will be next.
4
u/junglebunglerumble 12h ago
Not sure there'll be any need for that, if the Greens just become automatically the party for muslims/muslim-friendly voters. I might be wrong, but I'd suspect areas the lib dems have a presence are areas with fairly low muslim populations
•
u/Magneto88 8h ago
The Lib Dems are inherently sensible and cautious enough not to be caught out by this bullshit. They're not naive idealists like the Greens.

All hail the Islamic Grievance Party (that will occasionally talk about how it dislikes nuclear power).

There is a long history of far left/eco activist and Islamists making a common cause in the UK. Its not a new or surprising thing.
Stop the War was set up in 2001 by CND, the SWP, the Muslim Association of Britain and some far left MPs like Corbyn and Galloway.
After Galloway got kicked out of Labour he together with George Monbiot and the SWP plus I think the MAB again set up Respect Party that was very vocally about environmentalism, anti Islamophobia, anti western interests and anti Zionism. They had some success with Bethnal and Bow in 2005 and Bradford West in 2012. They imploded over Galloways ego.
At any environmental protest or group there were always a lot of the SWP, Anarchist, various other flavours of Marxism around. When the SWP fell apart, most of the group of that wing of politics made a bee line to Corbyns Momentum after 2015. Salma Yaqoob, Seamus Milne etc. When Corbyn was dropped by Labour in 2020 they were floating around and various projects tried to pick them up. Galloways GBWP, the Vote Gaza group and a few others. After 2024 the Vote Gaza folded into Corbyn to try to become Your Party and Zak took over the Greens. He threw his campaign around pulling the Greens in the kind of Respect/Momentum direction. But those kind of people always had a big presence in the party. The leadership over the years was a lot closer to that than say mainstream Labour. The membership also had a big chunk of the upper middle class NIMBYs who are concerned about all the things good Guardian readers are concerned about.
So the party is not going in a totally new direction, just the far left faction now have the numbers to drive policy. The people complaining mostly dont disagree too strongly they just see it as bad politics that will bite them in elections. Jenny Jones, Natalie Bennet etc all were pretty close to the far left.

Imagine going from wanting the air free of pollutants, to end as a party who would pair well with the brownshirts of the 30’s. History repeating itself every 100 years?

Red shirts. Their left wing and this unholy alliance with islamism is absolutely on brand.

Can't wait for the motion that calls Pakistan a racist endeavour and demands its abolition.

I once knew a chap who was a green, He threw in his lot with the Mujahedeen, He was partial to dick, so they beat him to death with a stick, and he left quite a mess behind to clean.

They've enacted a policy that disproportionately excludes the vast majority of an entire ethnic group. They would never stand for this happening to any ethnic group other than Jews. Because they're a bunch of nasty little Jew-haters.

u/marsh2907 12h ago
So in other words. "We are going to adopt this clearly racist policy which states you're a racist" the pot calling the kettle black saying comes to mind.
•
u/archerninjawarrior 11h ago
The Green party disproportionately targetting a minority ethnic group and their places of worship with this is fucking sickening.

They really dug a hole here.
Zionism is racism, but people aren't racist if they support zionism, or so they claim.
Can't really work out what that means.
Edit: Saw a clip, the guy next to her disagrees and proclaims Zionists are racists. Bizarre.

I can see why Tommy Robinson is a Zionist and a whites-only English nationalist at home, its consistent.
But Im confused why British liberals who support multicultural civic nationalism at home, supposedly on principle, would support Zionism or any other ethnic nationalism abroad.
Seems totally contradictory

u/JabInTheButt 12h ago
"British liberals" is a very broad term not generally used in British political discourse. The centre-left in this country have tended to support the existence of an Israeli state for 2 reasons:
1) Practicality. Any solution is currently implausible. But the 1-state is literally impossible in the next 50-100 years. The Israelis would nuke the entire area if it got close to that. It is a pointless venture and wasted effort that many believe will only prolong the suffering.
2) In general the centre left are less puritanical in ideology and are more relativist, placing fairness and proportionality at the centre of their politics. Does it seem fair and proportionate for Jews to have some self-determination in the world and have a state where they aren't the minority? Yeah it does actually. So despite our fundamental moral and ethical dislike for any ethno-religious state, the centre left can look beyond that, around the world and see tons of other ethno-religious states, and decide it doesnt seem reasonable to say only this one doesn't have a right to exist.
None of that requires support for the current Israeli government or any of their actions.
•
u/Maritimewarp 10h ago
Liberalism to my mind describes the tolerant philosophy of both the centre-right and the centre-left in the UK? I was referring to both.
The centre left - Labour - has while in government officially recognized the State of Palestine, and by using sanctions is trying to prevent Israel from permanently extinguishing the two-state solution with settlements.
So yes, I would agree with your points on why the centre left has supported the right of Israel to exist.
The more pertinent question is, on the same standards of fairness, what consquences it is willing to impose in defence of the right of Palestine to exist
•
u/ConcertoOf3Clarinets 9h ago
I'm confused about the far-left who want to support multiculturalism at home but setting a palestinian state on all that is Israel without any vision for the 7 million Jews who live there. Seems that arab ethno-nationalism is acceptable to them.
•
u/PeaGravy 9h ago
Hey, we have ostensibly left-wing people in this country going out of their way to welcome incredibly conservative people into this country, so who knows?
A vote’s a vote
