Good. It's nice to see sports other than football making a bit of a return to OTA broadcasting after years of being stuck behind a paywall.

Nice! Antenna is the best way to watch sports

Truer words have never been spoken. I hope to see this number keep increasing. It’s good for the franchise to get this team in front of as many Minnesotans as possible.

it blows my mind that we don't get our local sports...on local TV!! Like what are we doing.

u/ldskyfly 2d ago

We're doing greed. Why collect only ad revenue when you can collect ad revenue AND subscription fees!?

u/oldpaddyrick 2d ago

Yep, I have YouTube tv but I use the antenna for sports because the quality is better than streaming

u/New-Exit-6767 Anta Claus 2d ago

Antenna is the fastest feed as well. You get to see what happens as close to live as possible

Yep, this too!

Might depend where you are but I do not have this experience, at least for the NFL. Sometimes I'll have the Vikings game on TV and Redzone on my phone, and there are times when they show the Vikings game and it's a little ahead (10 seconds or so).

100%. As a kid we didn’t have cable, only way I could watch my beloved teams was over the air, and it was appointment television

3

u/MantusTMD 2d ago

Yup. I get so many nfl games with it. Then I 🏴‍☠️ Redzone. It’s perfect and free

I absolutely agree. I used to have issues with the cheap leaf antenna that you stick on the wall, but ever since getting an antenna rated for outdoor (I didn't actually mount it outside, it's actually just leaning up against a wall in the basement), I have zero signal issues. I also use HD Homerun to tie into plex so I can pause/rewind and/or DVR the broadcasts. It also means I have access to live OTA channels anywhere that I have my phone and cellular service through plex remote play, which I can then cast to a TV for example, works great.

When we buy a house, the first thing I’m doing is installing a real antenna outside. I have a pretty high quality one in my apartment but we run into issues with foul weather sometimes

It's also popular to mount them in the attic apparently, especially in states like MN with ice and snow. This is the one that I have, and I had all intentions of mounting it properly, but plugged it in to test and rested it against a wall by my water heater and water softener, and it's been sitting like that since last year lol.

Plus whichever games they get on ABC. I am not paying $120 to see half of their games.

Bunnies at noon to celebrate

u/OpportunityHot5076 2d ago

I started watching the wolves because of 45 OTA broadcasts back in the day. This is a big win!

u/TyJankis 2d ago

Really only 15 that would not be national right? Looks like the others are already on NBC national games. Would like to see more non national games, but around 20% is still better than nothing.

u/twovles31 2d ago

23 this year, maybe 28 next year. It's going up. Kare 11 needs to be willing to air the games over whatever show slate they would normally have on that evening.

5

u/moutheatsbrains 2d ago

Correct, 23 in total. I’m hoping these new relationships with DAZN lead to more local broadcast games in the future.

Oh I see I missed this comment. Thanks for clarification!

So if the number of distinct televised games provided by KARE11 is 15. That means 15 games on KARE11 + 34 nationally televised games by my quick count.

So if you don't subscribe to DAZN (and you live locally & have KARE11 + primary streaming options), you'll be able to watch 45 games and you'll miss the other 37 games.

Someone check me on this!

I'm going to use this math to decided if it's worth the cost to sub to DAZN. I'm a sucker and will probably do it anyway, but it's still worth breaking it down like this.

About time. I remember being able to watch as a kid on 45. People are getting priced out for going to games and even watching em these days. This is needed.

u/deepdish3434 2d ago

There was nothing better as a kid/teenager than a Friday night checking out a high school football game nearby, coming home for the last half hour of Homicide: Life on the Streets and then turning to 45 at 9pm for a wolves west coast tilt.

How come I pay for ESPN+ and the Wild game last night was blacked out?

5

u/Spirited-Housing-242 2d ago

because if its on local TV it will be blacked out on ESPN+, every time. VPN will be your friend in this case (i hope, ive never tried ESPN+)

3

u/Ten_Iron 2d ago

You need Wild+ if you live in the home area unless you use a VPN like what the other commenter said.

5

u/Sam7sung 2d ago

Good stuff. Hopefully this is the beginning of more Wolves games on free TV in the coming years

u/Cute-Literature7591 2d ago

Fuuuuuck yes.

u/Repairmanjack21 2d ago

This is great but I'm outside the metro area and doesn't do too much for me. I plan on getting DAZN before the preseason game on Monday or would it be smart to see if they give a special rate before the season opener?

3

u/FoodandLiquor28 2d ago

I'd say skip thr pre-season games, they don't really matter much anyway. I'm waiting the next few weeks out, hoping they make an offer thst sounds more reasonable. Part of it is the principle, if we just give them our money, especially this far out, they have no incentive to give us better value. Its kind of like pre-ordering a video game and then being given a lack luster product again and again.

u/jacksawyerlost 2d ago

I'd be really surprised if they offer any kind of deal before the season starts, since that's just punishing their earliest subscribers. It's possible with what a shitshow it's been though.

My best guess is the first discount will come sometime in early November, but I doubt it's anything exceptional that's worth waiting for.

3

u/Crayondy 2d ago

So that’s 42 games including TNT/Prime/ESPN and 40 games exclusive to DAZN.

3

u/MrMeritocracy Crunch 2d ago

I CARE about that!!! ……. I’ll see myself out

2

u/Hermetic-Wolf 2d ago

The article you linked says 15 games not 23? Or did I miss something

8

u/mrveryrelaxed 2d ago

15 games on KARE produced by local crew (DAZN)

8 games on KARE produced by national crew (NBC)

23 games

1

u/Anxious_Key9696 Bring Ya Ass 2d ago

Plus 3 on ABC, so 26 total OTA

2

u/wise_comment Make a Jam 2d ago

Hell yeah!

2

u/JigglyBush 2d ago

Over a quarter of the season, nice!

2

u/BR_Empire 2d ago

Imma need a list of which games are where. It’s getting too hard to track

2

u/Calinks Trenton Hassell 2d ago

Thats good. Looks like I need to get one of those antennas for the digital TV. Haven't watched over the air TV on ages

u/yourloudneighbor Glen Taylor 2d ago

So I’m outside of the TC in Moorhead. I saw our Fargo nbc station advertised to carry MN wild games, I’m guessing on its OTA 11.2 or whatever it is.

Is that what they’ll do with the wolves? I’d rather just watch on dazn and have dvr..assuming dazn will still have the game?

1

u/Ordinary-Apartment13 2d ago

All these games will also be on DAZN

They have only had one or two preseason games at home for decades.

STH like me refuse to go to preseason games. I just give my seats away to those games.

2

u/Own-Mark1285 2d ago

I’ll take some! My budget is tight this year. lol

2

u/ripe_data 2d ago

They are promoting the team and the G League team in Iowa by playing in Iowa.

1

u/yourloudneighbor Glen Taylor 2d ago

Gonna guess they were banking the Lynx were going to need the target center for playoffs for the next few weeks

But… we know how that turned out

You really think teams that share arenas with wnba teams want to talk about rescheduling shit instead of just not scheduling one?

There’s been times the wolves game had to be changed because of a Lynx playoff game. Comes with playing floor changes, baskets, concessions, etc etc.

You gotta relax
