Of course they do since it was their software in the Maven project that chose that school as a target based off decades old information that Google maps knew about

whos going to be held accountable for what people are calling war crimes?

u/JohnnyValet 8d ago

“A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must never make a management decision.”

– IBM Training Manual, 1979

https://www.ibm.com/think/insights/ai-decision-making-where-do-businesses-draw-the-line

86

u/dirtydigs74 8d ago

tbf the AI didn't make a management decision, someone in the DoD was criminally negligent in checking the validity of the target. And then the sexual abuser in chief tried to cover it up by blaming the Iranians, when he knew full well that it was a mistake by his own armed forces.

If someone drove their car into a crowd of kids because they hadn't serviced their bakes, straight to jail. And fair enough too. But in this administration, it's just another day at the office of the criminally incompetent.

21

u/Creative_Ad_8338 8d ago

Unless that crowd of kids are leftwingers Charlottesville... then there's good people on both sides.

Just like who is going to be held accountable for AI hacking things? If a person did that, it’s a felony. But if it did it autonomously, it’s not?

275

u/Aaaabbbbccccccccc 8d ago

The key difference you’re missing here is money. A lot of money. If a person had an AI that was hacking things, police would figure out a way to charge them. Rich people don’t have that problem.

28

u/serpenta 7d ago

It's not inherent problem with AI as well. It's just a problem with capital. Like, how many car companies faced any sort of criminal charges or even substantial fines for their analogue gross negligence? Or Boeing, or that train company that caused eco disaster at East Palestine? The state choses to be helpless to the companies above certain net worth.

4

u/Reqvhio 7d ago

the state IS those companies above certain net worth

I feel like this is the first time in history the mainstream narrative has been "technology is doing bad things" and not "the human using the technology is doing bad things".

And the commoners just eat it up not even thinking how ABSURD the idea actually is. A human was responsible for implementing the AI. A human was responsible for prompting/directing the AI to its goal. A human was responsible for reviewing actionable intelligence presented by the AI. A human was (hopefully) responsible for pulling the trigger.

It's just another indication of the technocrats warping reality to fit their narrative and absolve themselves of any responsibility for the harms they cause.

14

u/smokeweedNgarden 8d ago

I'm actually seeing the opposite on the ground but maybe because I'm in the Bay Area.

For the first time in a long time I'm hearing people question what exactly the people in their extended circle do/work for in tech.

Like, ok you're in robotics! What exactly do you work on? Do you help make murderbots?

It's starting to look alot like people that work at Raytheon from what I'm seeing

5

u/Megakruemel 7d ago

We both know that if a "commoner", as you put it, was using an AI to do even something remotely similar, they would get the book thrown at them. For the smallest of crimes.

It's the same with copyright law. Ai has been inhaling countless (in the real sense of the word) works of writing, movies and art without permission but boy oh boy if you get caught torrenting even one movie, your entire family is supposed to be shouldered with generational debt. Because with torrents they'll argue that you are also responsible for spreading the movie around to other people, even if you only seeded a few megabytes but if an Ai takes 10 movies and mushes them together to make a new one they'll argue it's a new thing because it's a creative remix and only contains a 10th of the movie.

7

u/Bac2Zac 8d ago

I don't get this, how is anyone responsible aside from whoever owns it?

Like, if I start a small fire on my property, but it spreads into my neighbors house and burns it down, I'm responsible. For some reason though, if I INVENTED THE FIRE, then I'm not?

Conservatives are building the surveillance state. This isn’t going anywhere without unprecedented grass roots support and putting conservatives out of power at all levels of government - the sort of grass roots support the surveillance and propaganda state is designed to prevent.

Here's an info dump

The goal here is the dissolution of democracy. And that doesn’t stop when Trump or xyz politician is gone.

Trump-thiel-Epstein admin is building the police state the wealthy have been lusting forever so they can enforce class disparity and dismantle democracy. It’s an international effort.

Big tech built the tools conservatives have been lusting after.

Remember j Edgar Hoover and all his secret files?

DARE was about building paragovernment surveillance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzrGCk-F7FY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iLf2h_fo-w good summary if you don't want to read or watch more.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlSK_5fMSa4 "you're the product" how LLM training was lowkey crowd sourced.

More broadly, conservatives have been upset since the enlightenment. It’s the politics of aristocrats: anything that ever helped regular people to be more comfortable has enraged them. It’s literally a response to the enlightenment. They resent the enlightenment making things nicer for poor people.

The backbone is that conservatism is about enforcing socioeconomic hierarchy and the techfascists, religious fascists, and heritage foundation race fascists are all in on replacing democracy with feudalistic “network” states run by ai powered surveillance.

Project2025 has been going on since 1981 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandate_for_Leadership

This current crop are trying to make a new country that "bursts out of the body" of the current country like a cocoon. It's called "the butterfly revolution" and yes it does sound absurd. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtis_Yarvin

It’s why musk speaks at the afd in Germany. It’s why bannon, farage, and Cambridge Analytica were working together on Brexit (watch “the great hack”). It's why thiel's "dialog society" exists. this is an international effort.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Enlightenment

https://time.com/7269166/dark-enlightenment-history-essay/

The accelerationists like Peter Theil from the tech faction of conservatism think they can force collapse, then use technology and surveillance to protect themselves. Because they're "done with democracy." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-BQhXdCs8Y

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerationism

These are both Thiel speaking like 10 and 15 years ago. The seasteading thing was an early material attempt at this moving-past-democracy thing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hjLgXA-MZY

https://www.seasteading.org/peter-thiel-speaks-about-seasteading/

These aristocrats are working on how to control their security forces though things like "disciplinary collars."

https://www.theguardian.com/news/2022/sep/04/super-rich-prepper-bunkers-apocalypse-survival-richest-rushkoff

Finally, the CEO of a brokerage house explained that he had nearly completed building his own underground bunker system, and asked: “How do I maintain authority over my security force after the event?” The event. That was their euphemism for the environmental collapse, social unrest, nuclear explosion, solar storm, unstoppable virus, or malicious computer hack that takes everything down.

This single question occupied us for the rest of the hour. They knew armed guards would be required to protect their compounds from raiders as well as angry mobs. One had already secured a dozen Navy Seals to make their way to his compound if he gave them the right cue. But how would he pay the guards once even his crypto was worthless? What would stop the guards from eventually choosing their own leader?

The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew. Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival. Or maybe building robots to serve as guards and workers – if that technology could be developed “in time”.

And the vice president of the united states and advisors have given their seals of approval to a book that says conservatives are going to have to kill all the liberals. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unhumans

Here’s more surveillance stuff. The massive forced data center roll out is for surveillance. Do we really think ai is being pushed so hard out of the generosity of tech moguls so that people can ask it to write their emails, do searches, make them pictures, and do some programming?

https://www.aclum.org/publications/ai-powered-surveillance-is-turning-the-united-states-into-a-digital-police-state-now-is-the-time-to-stop-it/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iLf2h_fo-w

Next time you go out driving, notice all the cameras watching the road. It’s way bigger than flock. They were going to partner with Ring, putting tons of houses and yards into the machine. https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/smart-home/2026/02/13/ring-camera-ad-flock-partnership-super-bowl/88657750007/

Why data centers? All of the audio and video from all of these cameras need to be stored somewhere so they can be processed. They're building real time tracking of individuals with face, car model, license plate, gait (the way you walk is unique) https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0262885623001580,

devices https://www.techrepublic.com/article/news-leonardo-signaltrace-alpr-device-tracking/,

internet history, banking data,

and it's all analyzed together https://theconversation.com/us-government-ramps-up-mass-surveillance-with-help-of-ai-tech-data-brokers-and-your-apps-and-devices-277440.

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/30/technology/tech-ice-facial-recognition-palantir.html It takes a lot of space to store all that and to process it.

John Oliver just dropped a good summary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnBPhelCdWE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtUkCvF3fa4 news report about a single guy being harassed by flock cops.

Why are they so desperate?? https://gizmodo.com/flock-reportedly-tried-to-turn-uber-drivers-into-mobile-snitches-2000796138

That's why the data center proliferation is everywhere. It's why people like Bezos are saying water and electricity are better used on data centers than real people. The aristocrats want control of their flock of workers.

If regular people can get behind anti data center / anti surveillance, maybe there’s a chance to stop thiel and tech feudalists. It doesn’t have to be inevitable.

50

u/Spez_is-a-nazi 8d ago

Larry Ellison accidentally said the quiet part out loud when he said AI cameras would force people to be on their “best behavior”, by that he means never challenging the status quo, the one he is on top of.

19

u/Sei_Mal_Ehrlich 8d ago

Welp this neatly summarizes why I’ve been feeling this insane existential angst since the lead up to the 2024 election. Not sure if we can still stop it entirely but we may be able to prevent some of the worst. I’m deathly afraid every single day because of this shit.

It's absurd that he claims Iran may have lured the AI system by tricking it into thinking it was a legitimate target for the sympathy.

These companies are going to come up with every possible reason why their AI system were actually right and it was actually the fault of whoever was negatively affected by it.

34

u/DensePoser 8d ago

That's the party line. They knew it was a school for kids of the IRGC and terror-bombed them, something they have tons of experience with. The claim that they had no idea the very short terrorists in the school are children is rather implausible to anyone paying attention to surveillance tech.

27

u/2dudesinapod 8d ago

Yep, not only did they bomb it, they triple tapped the survivors and first responders. They had eyes in the sky and knew what they were bombing.

I wonder which company is responsible?

And this is the guy who thinks we shouldn’t pass any regulations and not slow AI

141

u/Suecotero 8d ago edited 8d ago

Palantir deployed Maven at the DoD which used Grok to select the target.

Then someone at the DoD greenlit the strike based on the faulty intel assessment.

The DoD command chain involved should go to trial for war crimes. Killing hundreds of civilians (children!) through gross negligence is a war crime. Palantir and Grok should lose all government contracts and be fined for misleading the DoD and failing to deliver reliable targeting data as specified in their contract, including possible jail time for the involved corporate executives depending on how much they lied about the software's capabilities.

That's what should happen in a normal country, but the US isn't a normal country anymore.

14

u/S_A_N_D_ 7d ago

Imagine Iran accidentally bombed a school in the US instead of an airbase?

The US put people in Guantanamo for not wearing uniforms/being recognised combatants when targeting US soldiers... Yet they won't prosecute their own for killing kids.

Wrong read. Herbert never envisioned a Skynet scenario; men controlled the thinking machines. I hear you, but, hear me out.

These technobros want to embed themselves into government asap because they know the “AI revolution” is smoke and mirrors.

The fundamental technology behind LLM’s is out. It’s open source. You can run local models at home (if you have a powerful enough computer) today and pay $0 in tokens or usage fees.

They know this. Every day the gap between the dozens (maybe hundreds) of free LLM’s and the “frontier” cutting edge models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and others is closing - and fast.

Their company valuations are obviously unsustainable and at some point someone has to pay the piper.

Their hope is to have enough guaranteed government contracts and other “protections” before the consumer tech becomes so good that you don’t need a $8,000 computer at home to run models that are - for the average user - as good as ChatGPT (but more secure, more private, and more efficient).

Um, yes that’s literally how liability works if you don’t have enough wealth to shield you from the consequences of your actions. A pilot who lands 99 planes safely then comes in to work drunk and crashes the plane will very much be judged on that fact and not the 99 times he safely landed the plane.

Secondly where the hell are you getting the “good choices” from? Not a single thing done in this entire debacle has been a “good choice”

I think a certain level of sociopathy is required to occupy such a position. For example, you need to be okay with laying a lot of people off and impacting their lives.

Asshole.

In a fair and just world, the person responsible would have been prosecuted and punished, but we don't live in one. Now, we are left dealing with leaders who can look at such a tragedy and simply say, 'so what?'

4

u/Top5hottest 7d ago

But isn’t that the point. With AI making our decisions.. there is nobody to hold responsible. We are all free of accountability in the world of the future!

SEVEN TIMES UVALDE. SEVEN.

If anything, we aren’t angry enough. And we can’t exclusively heap the blame on the AI, as much as they want to hold it up as a layer of deniability. Men chose this war. Men pulled the trigger. Men must be held accountable.

27

u/BulbusDumbledork 8d ago

the tomahawk missiles hit each of the buildings centre mass. deliberate, precise strikes. they hit the school building; a medical clinic; a kids playground and cardiology centre; a second kids play area; a shop nezt to the play area; and an auditorium in the educational complex. the strike was done in the middle of the day on saturday, which is a school/working day in iran.

these strikes occurred over two separate waves, with a gap of an hour between them. local news already identified the school as such after the first strikes, with people rushing to the scene to help before the second wave hit.

the school had previously been part of the neighbouring irgc compound but was fully separated by 2015. palantir and the pentagon want you to believe the ai accidentally used pre-2015 data. but the geography of the two lots had changed materially since then, including some of the buildings that were precisely hit only opening long after the school was fully converted.

curiously, the compound with all these kids' facilities that were destroyed had other civilian buildings not primarily designed for use by kids, such as a cafe and a car wash. these buildings were not struck.

8

u/Grumpy_Tanuki 7d ago

"these strikes occurred over two separate waves, with a gap of an hour"

Ah. I didn't know this, nor that they used 7 missles.
And I usually read all the headlines in my country and if I do not know something it's probably because they made their best efforts to hide it.
Obviusly the strategy to hit in a second wave is to maximixe casualities in first responders.
If I write what I think I would be banned for life.

4

u/bokmcdok 7d ago

They sent a SECOND wave?

9

u/JMurdock77 7d ago

Parents of those children were getting urgent calls from staff at the school to come and pick their children up after the first strike. They moved everyone into the central prayer room, which they thought was more sheltered, to try and keep them safe. The second strike on the building then killed them all.

Gave enough time for everyone involved except those who pulled the trigger to suffer some psychological torment first.

17

u/YaBoiFarfour 7d ago

“It could be the case that somebody made 99 really good choices and then one bad choice and it led to a horrible thing,” Lonsdale told Reuters Global Defense Editor Joe Brock on Friday, in a talk aimed at investors. He also argued that Iran might have deliberately lured the US military into the AI-assisted targeting of two Tomahawk missiles at an elementary school on the first day of the the Trump administration’s war in Iran. The attack killed more than 150 people, most of whom were children.

I’m sorry this is unacceptable in my countries military. I strive for us to be better and do not accept this.
