Are you thinking they've hit a wall they can't fix, that things can only be done with obscene amounts of compute, and they're lighting money on fire by selling $200 subscriptions that people are burning through $20,000 worth of compute on, so what they're really doing is saying that "we need to slow down and approach this methodically" while telling sci-fi horror stories to buy themselves time? And drastically reprice their service?

One thing that would make sense is if they wanted time to re architecture what is undoubtedly a shit show of collecting data, processing it and serving the results. If one of the assholes came out and admitted that they grew too fast and adapted to scale without a plan (which would be a completely reasonable thing to say), I'd give them some credit. But nah, it's either blowjobs for everyone or death. I also wouldn't count on any customer facing savings even if they reduced their operational costs by 90%
