I genuinely don't care anymore. And I also find it suspicious they are expressing these concerns when all these companies have horrible financials and were supposed to IPO about now.

Yup, the real reason Anthropic and OpenAI want congress to regulate them is because the law will likely get rid of the open source Chinese models that are undermining their bottom lines.

He can try but it won't work, as Ztoffels put it "USA is not the world brother"

That still won’t help them

Even if they are being truthful about the dangers and their desire for regulation, it's all based on selfish reasons. They don't want to be culpable for any potential disasters. They can turn around and say we warned everyone. They want another entity responsible for safeguarding and more importantly, something that ensures their competitor doesn't get an unfair advantage if they did the "right thing" themselves.

Dario created Claude, claiming he didn't like what he saw at OpenAI and wanted to create something more responsible. Has there really been any credible evidence that indicates that's true? So far it looks like a typical "I want to start my own thing to get filthy rich, but here's an excuse that makes it seem more altruistic."

These dudes are in it for themselves even if what they're claiming is true. For me that's not even the point with these people. It's that even with their cries of "danger" they're doing so primarily to protect their own asses.

How will regulation stop open source models?

Yep, marketing.

OpenAI started it with the Huggingface hack, media went crazy reporting on it. Anthropic later came out with their own stories.

Who even knows how much of it is true, it looks like a case of any publicity is good publicity though.
