Rule Update: Our Stance on Business/Commercial Posts
Hey, r/SomethingIMade!
We've updated two rules to better protect what this community is for as a space for individual creators sharing their own work, including collaborations.
A steady increase in posts and comments from business and commercial accounts promoting products or shop pages has not gone unnoticed, often in cases where authorship can't be verified. We don't think it is fair that content that may be mass produced gains engagement over our more DIY creators. The updated rules address this directly.
Rule #5: Related Links & Self-Promotion
Posts or comments from businesses or commercial accounts primarily promoting products may be removed at moderator discretion, especially where authorship cannot be verified.
Rule #10: Original Content Only
Business and commercial accounts are not permitted to post in this subreddit. This is a community for individual creators only.
If you're an individual who makes and sells things, you're still very welcome here. This change is aimed at accounts whose primary purpose is commercial promotion rather than genuine participation as a creator. If you're unsure whether your account falls within the rules, reach out via Mod Mail.
Happy creating!

Updated Rule 5: Related Links & Self-Promotion
In order to help have better discussions regarding content, we have decided to disable embedding of YouTube videos in posts.
This isn’t intended to hinder anyone from posting, simply to change the way the post are made. Moving forward you will need to create a normal post regarding your creation, and if there’s a YouTube video you would like to share as part of that, add it into the body of the post along with the descriptive information.
Thanks for being here, and if you have any questions, ask away!!

Axe stuck in a log
Carved this out of a stick I found in Wyoming on a walk a couple months back. Stole the idea from a post I saw on the whittling subreddit. Really delighted with this one :D

Does anyone remember “Snubbies”? I made one of my little dog!
I used to collect Snubbies as a kid, you can’t buy them now. So I made one from polymer clay of my dog, Pilot. I think they should bring Snubbies back.

Pokémans or whatever
Fuse bead pokemon. Why these pokemon? Because I'm out of white and black. Should I make other pokemon or shiny versions next? Ideas welcome. Also, spooky tree. No progress shots because my hands are too shaky and I forgot.

I made a customized wooden astrolabe for a couple. An astrolabe is a medieval astronomical tool.
An astrolabe is a medieval astronomical tool, I have designed my own wooden version. There are some brass elements as well, like the suspension ring, the retaining pin and the rivet for the suspension ring.

I made a glowing skull diorama which pulls weather data and glows a color based on the temperature outside
The skull is powered by an ESP32 and an array of addressable RGB LED lights. It pulls weather data from OpenWeatherAPI and glows the color of the temperature outside. Cooler temperatures are cooler colors, warmer temperatures are warmer colors. When it's precipitating outside (rain/snow), the skull will slowly pulse in and out of the color pertaining to the correct temperature. And when there's a severe weather alert, it flashes red. (The flashing purple means that it's in setup mode, it becomes a wi-fi hotspot you can connect to to set the wireless network, password, and zip code for the weather data.)
I decorated the diorama with moss and tiny headstones.
This was a gift for a friend, I'm happy with how it came out. I hope you like it!
