Discussion Need feedback on a quantum software testing tool I built for final year project.

Hi everyone,

GitHub repository:
https://github.com/jamesharris1307/Quantum-Simulation-Testing-Framework-Python-Pytest-Qiskit

This project got me a first in my degree and was the highest scoring project I submitted that year. I’m hoping to continue developing it beyond university so I’d appreciate some feedback from people who have experience with quantum computing, quantum software engineering or quantum software testing.

The project is a probabilistic testing framework for quantum software, designed to make quantum simulation executions more reliable by using statistical threshold assertions instead of relying on exact deterministic outputs.

The framework is built with Python, Pytest, Qiskit, Qiskit Aer and NumPy.

I’d particularly appreciate feedback on:

* Whether you think the approach is useful/practical
* Anything you think is missing from the framework
* Potential improvements to the testing methodology
* Existing work or tools I should look into
* Ideas for where I could take the project next

Nice work getting a first with this, the statistical threshold approach actually makes a lot of sense for quantum outputs since you're never gonna get deterministic results from a simulation anyway. I'd suggest looking into property-based testing libraries like Hypothesis to pair with your assertions, could make the framework way more flexible for edge cases

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely look into property based testing and Hypothesis I haven't heard of that library before so will be interesting to explore.
