Weird line to draw considering what DHH is.

I always welcome new people discovering what a scumbag piece of shit DHH is and continues to be. I think one of the takeaways from all this should be to judge people by the company they keep and lower whatever credibility the Rails World people have overall with yourself and the wider ruby and rails communities. His presence reflects badly.

This includes Ruby on Rails leadership who have ignored calls to remove him from a leadership position for years now.

He deleted his tweet but in one of my replies to his post he essentially said that people who work in tech matter more than normies. That was the thing that made me unfollow and mute him I didn't think he was that type of person but i hope him deleting that reply means he doesn't think the same way anymore

It means it looks bad and hurts his bottomline.

Is Ruby still Rails?

Yes, without a doubt, the few people who recognize Ruby at first glance always associate it with Rails and now with DHH.

Rails is dead, but that doesn't mean Ruby is dead.

Rails isn't dead either, though it seems DHH's involment will be.

Didn't we (as the Rails community) spend last 5-8 years saying that we need to tolerate DHH's behaviour, because he is the only prophet that can keep Rails alive?

I don't really consider the Rails community as a single entity. I think opinions on his role in Rails and what it should be vary greatly within the Rails community.

That said, I do think he made quite an impact on the framework and it's direction in all these years. What will happen now that he is pursuing other interests is unclear and it might even result in Rails becoming dead at some point, who knows.

But to say "Rails is dead" is at best premature.

I love Ruby. There are plenty of other projects out there that use Ruby and not Rails. But to act like Ruby’s development hasn’t gotten to where it is without Rails is pretty blind.
