I’m 24 and honestly feeling very stuck about what to do with my education and career.
I originally studied Information Technology, but I never completed the degree. I failed twice, and it’s now been around 2–3 years since I went back to it. At this point, I don’t think IT is the right path for me, even though I know AI and technology are growing rapidly.
I also have an unusual education situation. I never completed my O-levels, and later I ended up doing Federal Board humanities because, as a private student, those were basically the subjects available to me. The problem is that I don’t actually have much interest in humanities either.
I’m currently in Qatar, and I recently spoke to UDST. They told me I would need to wait until the next admission cycle to apply. Even if I did, though, I’m not sure I could afford the tuition, and I don’t think I qualify for the scholarship options available to me.
Another option I have is going to Islamabad and starting a bachelor’s degree there. But I really don’t want to move to Islamabad unless I’m reasonably confident that the degree I choose will actually give me a good path forward.
I’m also working on a startup/project of my own. I’ve put a lot of effort into it, but realistically, I don’t have much traction yet, and I’m not seeing investors, grants, or a clear future from it right now. So I don’t feel comfortable treating the startup as my only plan.
This leaves me confused about what to do next.
Should I:
- Go to Islamabad and start a bachelor’s degree in something like sociology or another arts/social science field?
- Try to find a way to return to IT despite my previous failures?
- Choose a different field entirely?
- Focus on building practical skills instead of pursuing a degree?
- Or take some other route I haven’t considered?
One thing I’m especially struggling with is whether switching to arts/social sciences in 2026 makes sense when AI is developing so quickly. I don’t want to spend 4 years getting a degree and then discover that I’ve made the wrong choice again.
If you were 24, had no completed bachelor’s degree, limited finances, an unconventional education background, and were basically starting over, what would you do?
I’d really appreciate honest advice from people who have been in a similar situation — especially people who changed fields, went back to university later, or built a career without following a traditional path.
