Other New pet peeve: Character finds evidence of thing, thing happens

I've come across this trope so many times that it surprised me with how annoying it can be the latest time it happened.

Basically it's when a character discovers evidence of some monster or some threat, and only after that the monster arrives.

Say they are tracking some monster. After a lot of fruitless searching. They find huge gashes on a tree with a pile of clothes and grey fur on the ground. The MC realizes the monster is infact a werewolf.

And the narration is invariably something along the lines of

'MCman realized in horror what it was. "It's" he began but a howl tore through the night "a werewolf"'

Like if this is a werewolf was it waiting for you to catch up to the story? And like this is an example. It shows up all the time when an author doesn't think of the MC as another person in the world that's gonna continue irrespective of the MC

Question Stormweaver series: What is this Logan x Viv relationship?

I just want to know: will this thing with Logan and Viv actually develop into an actual relationship in the story? I don't care about the spoilers. I just really want to know because if it is, I am absolutely DNFing this series. Like wtf? This is coming way out of left field.

Self-Promotion The Lich King Reincarnates As A Baby!

Repost for formatting.

Hello everyone,

I am Ian B. Urns and I’d like to share the release of The Lich King Reincarnates as a Baby Book 1: New Ages! It's a slow-burn progression fantasy/reincarnation story with comedic elements.

[Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HKQ9S5CH)

Blurb:

Lord Dread was the greatest magical prodigy the world had ever seen. He was also the first lich in history. The Gods feared his potential and banished him. Or so they thought.

He frees himself from prison after countless millennia, but finds his powers diminished and his body now that of a baby girl. Born to an aristocratic family and given a fresh chance to relearn magic differently than he originally taught himself, he has set his sights on regaining his former glory. In order to rebuild the dark empire he once used to challenge the Gods and take revenge on the fearful divinity that struck him down, he must first learn about this strange new time period he finds himself in.

It would be easier if girls could inherit land, but Lord Dread is not one to let something like this get in his way.

Discussion Writing reviews has definitely increased my enjoyment of each book

I'm been trying to actively write reviews of each book I've read on Kindle, and I've noticed that the act of actively sitting with the story, thinking it through, and then writing a couple paragraphs about why other people should know about the story to justify reading it, while also avoiding spoilers about the book leads me to enjoy each story a little bit more.

Just feels like a useful observation for anyone else that's in the "if I didn't have KU my budget would be fucked" reading camp

Question Cradle - Is the entire world just assholes?

I finished the second book and I'm part of the way through the third. I've generally enjoyed it so far though nothing has really blown me away yet. I understand it starts getting better in the third book so I'm looking forward to that.

However, one thing just kind of puts me off, is the entire world just full of selfish dicks or something? There seems to be little to no common decency or just basic human respect. It's kind of depressing tbh.

I get that Sacred Valley may just be a shitty culture. And the wilds are well... wild. But is this going to be a recurring trend throughout the series?

Review Leave Luck to Heaven book 1 review

Hm, the funny thing about this novel is that it's a vaguely alt-lit adjacent writer doing the most mainstream-appealing premise imaginable. There's a lot I'd like to say about it, most of which fails to stay on topic due to the aforementioned. I suppose I'll just write the 2 main questions I must answer.

Is it a good Progression Fantasy novel?: Debatable. It points off to an epic scope statistically/geopolitically/metaphysically speaking, but obviously doesn't get very far into it 85k words in. However, both fight scenes in book 1 are really well written and I think I enjoyed the "system mechanics are literally just Fire Emblem" gimmick more than I thought I would.

Is it good compared to Bavitz's other writing?: I'd only read about half of Bavitz's body of work, but I'd say it holds up. Hague's character in particular causes it to retain some of the edgy shitposter styling you'd see in CxC and 1/X (leading to such chapter titles as "Lolipopery" and "Autistic Goth Girl GFE"). Cast of side characters is also pleasantly absurd as per usual. I think I've seen some people find it underwhelming, but I'm willing to keep reading until perhaps it gets somewhere. I will complain, however, that the first arc had an uncharacteristically clean ending, and that the author ought to kill off a side character or two in the near future (please get rid of Tuatoru, he's boring he's disposable and his cheat skill is too outrageous to use repeatedly).

In summary, I guess it's good. I might just have an excess of faith in the author. Perhaps the reader should judge for themselves.

Discussion Does anyone else get bored by protagonists existing outside the power system?

Whenever there is an established power system in the world, with it's own rules that the majority of character will have to follow, except the MC.

For example, a world where everyone is given a class that determines the skills they can use as well as their strengths and weaknesses. It would be interesting to see how the MC adapts around their unique class. Except no. The MC got "Class: Null." This simply means that they have access to every skill possible. They aren't limited like everyone else. They don't have to be creative or adapt. They get to become just another magic swordsman.

I genuinely don't understand the point of creating an entire system of power if it's not going to matter for the focus character.

Self-Promotion Drew my own cover in Krita, now working on a second piece: the combat android from my story

Hi everyone! I finally finished the cover for my story, ANANKE: The Solis Tale.

This is the first cover I've drawn myself, in Krita. Now I'm working on my second piece, and I'm finally happy with the outline: this is the combat android from my story, A.A.0.5.5, or Aaoss.

Seven feet tall, dark blue armor, no face. He's still very much a work in progress, and I'll post the finished version when it's done.

A little about the story: it's an aetherpunk epic fantasy about a thirteen-year-old girl, the monster living inside her, and a war that won't wait for anybody. Every time she uses her power, she loses a memory.

New chapters every Saturday at 7 PM ET, free on Royal Road.

JOIN THE LEGION

Art drawn by me.

Feedback on the cover or the android is very welcome. Thanks for looking!

Idk how writers never think of how suddenly their main lead turns from a normal guy to a maniac in a few seconds of transmigration. Like in a normal day to day world people like them are called psychopaths. It's as if their inner criminals are coming out. The more i grow up i kind of get why they think like this. At least give the ml a few months to become cold blooded , they almost lose their morality the second the story plot starts. I so much wanna read a story where the ml is just a normal guy like us and then progresses eventually.

Question Whats your Favorite Completed Progression Fantasy?

No, "Were on book 300+ and never going to stop!". The Author set out to tell a story. Finished the story and managed to resist the impulse to milk it forever. I love me a story with an actual resolution.

Book 3 of my series, Realms Beneath the Eternal Light Saga, is currently ongoing. I'm incredibly grateful to have recently crossed 482 followers with a 4.61 ⭐ rating. Since uploading the latest professionally developmental-edited pass (working alongside Team Condor), growth has really taken off, and I'm super thankful to everyone taking the time to read, rate, and follow.

My new custom cover by Dimitrije Miljus has also finally arrived :)

The Story: If you're looking for a deep progression epic built around an angel vs. demon war, this is for you.

BLURB: Viktor Gale failed his family in life. He won't fail them in death.

A heart attack in his forties. No chance to take back his last words.

At judgment, Viktor turns down the safety of Purgatory and chooses to serve in Heaven's army instead: a middle manager thrust into a war he can't comprehend, defending a celestial City where souls from every era serve as guardians of the Nine Gates against Hell.

The Light is losing.

When the Fifth Gate falls, time in the world of the living stops. Eight billion souls are trapped, including his family. Their fate bound to a cosmic war they don't know is being waged.

To tip the scales, Viktor must rise through the ranks and become far more than an ordinary guardian. But power has a price: the stronger he grows, the longer death holds him before he's reborn, and every fallen Gate further weakens the Light.

Three Gates remain to conquer. Then, only the last is left, standing at the very heart of the Silver City.

Viktor must rise. Or when the last Gate falls, Earth burns under never-ending hellfire.

What to Expect:

  • Backlog: Book 1 is 100% complete at 36 chapters (124K words). Book 2 is also complete with 31 chapters (130K words). Book 3 is fully written (120K words) and currently publishing. Book 4 is beginning the first draft phase, which I expect to finish by the time Book 3 completes its release schedule.
  • Consistent Updates: 3 new chapters every week (1,500 - 2,500 words each).
  • The Vibe: Lore-heavy progression fantasy set in an afterlife (Angels vs. Demons).

If you're a fan of progression fantasy with litrpg elements with deep characters, world-building and gaining power at a cost, I'd love for you to check it out: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/150994/realms-beneath-the-eternal-light-saga-archangels

Self-Promotion [English LitRPG] New System Apocalypse series – after the Signal | Book 1 - 3 available now [Deutsches LitRPG] New System Apocalypse series – DIE INTEGRATION | Buch 1 - 3 jetzt verfügbar

• Upvotes

Hallo r/ProgressionFantasy

Band 1 – TAG NULL

✅ Jetzt erhältlich

Band 2 – DIE ZUFLUCHT

✅ Jetzt erhältlich

Band 3 – DIE ANDEREN

✅ Jetzt erhältlich

Band 4 - Geteilte Last

Hi r/litrpg,

I wanted to introduce a new LitRPG series: after the Signal, the first arc by Dorian J. Kade.

The first three books, from – after the Signal, are available now on Amazon and is also included in Kindle Unlimited.

The series combines System Apocalypse, progression, base building, survival, and the rebuilding of human civilization.

It isn't only about increasing levels and attributes. Supplies, water, infrastructure, security, specialized knowledge, logistics, and eventually diplomacy between different survivor communities become actual parts of the progression.

The series begins right when the System arrives and expands with each book:

Book 1 – Day Zero

✅ Available now

Book 2 – The Refuge

✅ Available now

Book 3 – The Others

✅ Available now

Band 4 - Shared Burden

Coming 27.10.2026

Band 5 - More Than Islands

Coming 24.11.2026

If you enjoy LitRPG where base building and creating a functioning community gradually become just as important as personal progression, this might be your kind of series.

The books are currently available in German and English.

👉 Book 1 on Amazon / Kindle Unlimited:

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0HJKFBD42

I'm also genuinely curious how many people here read LitRPG in German. Compared with the English-language scene, the German LitRPG market is still surprisingly small.

Fun fact about me: One reason I wanted to make this series was that after a System Apocalypse, I didn't want electricity, clean water, medicine, and working infrastructure to magically become someone else's problem. Somebody still has to get the whole damn place running again. 😄

COVER ARTIST: AI-generated cover artwork created with OpenAI/ChatGPT under author direction.

AI USAGE: AI generated / AI assisted. Generative AI was used during drafting and editing of the books as well as for the cover artwork. Story direction, worldbuilding, continuity decisions, revisions, selection and final approval were directed by the author.

Now, 2 months later, the second book of the trilogy is finally out! Come check it out!

Blurb:

The battle is won, yet the war is far from over.

Three years after the battle of Mura, Meriel waits for his apprentices to come back from various missions, securing help for the upcoming civil war. Yet the gods don't wait for no-one.

The Battauri Empire certainly doesn't.

The invasion of the Southern Peninsula kicks off a series of events in which the dragons hurry to hastily complete their various tasks before the war gets to their home's doorstep, yet the humans they were enlisted to find help in are one more foolish than the next.

And the Maizha does not wait for the mortals' squabbles to be over.

Discussion What's a progression fantasy where getting stronger creates new problems?

One thing I really like in progression fantasy is when getting stronger creates new problems instead of just solving the old ones.

Like, you finally beat the guy who was way above you.

Great.

But now people way above him know you exist.

Or you get a new technique and it's ridiculously strong, but now you need resources that are a pain to get. Maybe your body can't keep up with the training. Maybe your old team doesn't really work anymore because you've outgrown them.

I don't mean every power-up needs some horrible drawback. That can get annoying too.

I just think it's more interesting when getting stronger changes what the character has to worry about.

Otherwise it can start feeling like:

"Cool, I'm stronger now. So I guess that problem doesn't matter anymore."

What books do you think do this well?
