To think that Americans were criticizing this kind of stuff China does not long ago, and they were the devils lol

It's not like the US wasn't an authoritarian surveillance state the whole time.

Secret police? Naw those are plainclothes officers! They gotta do that so they can catch the evil criminals!

Mass public surveillance? We gotta have that to protect you (and Walmart) from criminals! Don't worry. We're responsible with it! We're on your side!

Propaganda aimed at children about this being a good thing? No no! That's just a silly Disney movie about a rabbit and a fox! It's progressive even! See? The allegorical minority characters get to be cops too!

Demonizing China serves a few purposes.

The CCP calls itself communist, so you can play that up for the red scare aspect.

You create and villainize an outside "other" group (read Ur-Fascismo for additional context.)

Showing how much you dislike other authoritarians implies you yourself are anti-authoritarian, and would never oppress anyone.

You can also enforce an association with Chinese people and a "uniquely Chinese" brand of authoritarianism, and sow distrust of Chinese people in the general public, which is awesome if you're racist.

I don't have any sort of closing statement. I think I'm just rambling.

Zootopia was a propaganda film???? Acab of course but I thought it more highlighted government corruption and wrong doing.

The hero uses her position of power to extort a civilian, has her use of borderline illegally collected surveillance data (that just casually exists I guess) presented as a good thing, and has an implicit lesson of "Systemic issues can be solved with the removal of individual bad actors."

Also, cops.

It does the misdirection thing, where making a big show of being "anti-authoritarian" on the surface level lets it sneak the subtler messaging by you.

It wasn't the whole time. Until recently these systems were not storing lifetimes of data. Until recently these systems weren't all connected. Until recently it wasn't fascism. Now, pick your buzzword for surveillance state.

The response to this sort of thing has been wildly different in the US than it has been in China. Let’s not pretend they’re even remotely similar.

Flock’s having to try this because their original business model of putting cameras on poles is failing. People have been shooting, spray painting, bagging, and cutting down the cameras. Grand juries are returning no true bill against those who are arrested for doing so. Governments are revoking their contracts.

We can do the same with the drones.

China still is the devil. But the US government isn’t far behind.

"Emergency Services" .... So the Fire Department is going to use these too? Fairly sure it's just the police, they just don't want to say it

Where’s that invisibility plastic shit. I need it to build a sun porch with and to wrap my car with.

if a human first responder treats someone who used illegal drugs, they dont have to tell cops about the drugs. Just treat you. But if Heli-COP-ter Spydrone 3000 brings you narcan and alerts an ambulance, then you can bet the cops get that footage and evidence and you'll be getting a visit at the hospital with charges. Patient-provider confidentiality would be at question here since it is being recorded and there is no human provider on scene.

I’ve always said.
They can’t do the ground automated driving and they won’t admit to it
But flying is where the moat is

They think
Underground
Above ground
Above above the ground
Diagonal
In home
Out of home
Border
On sea
Off sea
Lastly in space
Abduction to space

People slow to catch on and also arctic stuff

So NERF doesn’t reach up there

and what if the cops use it identify protesters ?
or if they just use it everyday for no specific reason ?

...I dont want to think some cop use it to follow his ex girlfriend... it would be too much right ?
