Trump never had any motivations other than staying in power, getting what he wants, and having people complement him

528

u/transient_thought_CA 9h ago

A big motivator this time was to stay out of prison. Had Merrick Garland actually launched comprehensive investigations into Trump immediately after being confirmed, this entire administration could have been avoided.

I also believe that the only reason Musk helped Trump was to enact DOGE, as he and his companies were all under investigation for numerous labor and ethics violations.

230

u/TaterForming 9h ago

I also believe that the only reason Musk helped Trump was to enact DOGE, as he and his companies were all under investigation for numerous labor and ethics violations.

Musk straight out tweeted that a Kamala win would mean a lot more "unfair" investigations into his companies.

u/wasted-degrees 9h ago

Theres something fundamentally wrong with our economic and political landscape when we find ourselves electing rich people whose only goal with the office is to keep themselves out of prison.

74

u/PowerDump_69 8h ago

Blame Reagan for this blurred line between corporations and government, he's the one that weakened that once strong border.

•

u/midgaze Washington 6h ago

The Heritage Foundation was already running the show under Regan. It goes all the way back to about 1970, and their aim has always been the same: put capital in power.

•

u/Dry-Dragonfly5286 7h ago

Blame Lewis Powell

11

u/Ryansit 9h ago

He’s so rich he never would have gone to prison either way

12

u/ForwardBodybuilder18 8h ago

Yeah but he might have lost a little bit of the rich and made his workers lose a little bit of their poor and that is totally unacceptable. Far better to spend a couple of hundred million and make a couple of hundred billion. Things like money, quality of life, rights, security and happiness are like cake - for everyone else means less for him and that absolutely will not stand. /s

it's insane how blatantly corrupt this whole administration has been from the very beginning. Trump literally called it his revenge tour. Yet rational, reasonable people are still flabbergasted that he's an awful piece of shit every day.

16

u/kpg_on_ao3 8h ago

His strategy was sound and probably the best. It's just time wasn't on his side. He took office March 2021 and immediately started arresting low-level people to work his way up.

This is how crime syndicate investigations work. Whether he moved fast enough is not for me to say, but to suggest he should've started investigating the guy at the top immediately is a bit ignorant. (It also assumes this wasn't done in secret from the start.) A year later he did hire Jack Smith to investigate Trump openly.

•

u/randomnighmare I voted 7h ago

And there was that judge that basically stalled/slow walked Smith's case. SCOUTS ruling that president's has immunity, and Trump winning the 2024 election.

•

u/Suspicious_Bicycle 4h ago

Yep, Cannon did everything she could to shield Trump. She continues to do so by blocking the release of part 2 of Smith's report.

•

u/Michael_G_Bordin 4h ago

SCOTUS did not rule a president has immunity. People need to stop saying this, because it's not at all what their ruling said or did. They ruled that a president cannot be indicted for things which were official acts (which is not as nebulous as people think), and cannot be indicted while in office (something about distracting them). They did not say whether or not Trump inciting an insurrection was or was not an official act. They remanded the case for a lower court to decide that, and then the DOJ dropped the case because Trump won the election.

The thing is, the president (and all elected officials) have always been immune from civil and criminal action based solely on carrying out their official duties. The Court didn't invent that out of thin air or pull it from their asses. All they did was say some weak-ass shit about "outer-bounds of duty" and send it to lower courts to sort out based on the facts of the case. Don't mistake me, it was a shit opinion by SCOTUS, but it didn't do what people keep saying it did. If a president shoots a person, that's obviously not an official duty, and they can be prosecuted for it (though it would have to wait until they're out of office).

This reminds me of how people say Citizens United made corporations people. That happened in the 70s, all Citizens said was that you can't limit private, for-profit corporations from electioneering (which overturned a case in the early 90s which said you can limit them via legislation). It's still a shit decision, but not for the reasons pop culture would have you believe. This actually happens a lot with Supreme Court cases, because they often explain things in excruciating detail and reporters aren't legal readers so they miss the citations.

u/HelpersWannaHelp 6h ago

Um, under Garland Trump was indicted with something like 90 felony charges, in several states. Did you forget that? Or is your complaint about the speed, he should have snapped his fingers and made it happen like in the movies?

If only judges didn’t allow every attempt to delay. Trials were scheduled you know. If only voters didn’t vote for a convicted felon. He was in fact convicted with several felonies, again judge never bothered to sentence him. Why not blame the real reasons we are in this mess?

•

u/VanceKelley Canada 5h ago

Had Merrick Garland actually launched comprehensive investigations into Trump immediately after being confirmed, this entire administration could have been avoided.

Also, if at least a third of eligible voters had voted against trump in 2024 then he would probably be in prison today. Regardless of the failings of Garland, the American people could still have held trump accountable. 69% of them instead decided to let trump have immunity from the rule of law.

1

u/Mesoposty 8h ago

I’m sure it’s much more nefarious than just those pesky things

•

u/CT_Phipps-Author 1h ago

One small, SMALL thing to Merrick Garland's credit is that it was incompetence not malicious compliance. Merrick immediately went about proving Trump's complicity in the January 6th riots by attempting to make a financial link between him and the rioters. Paying for their bus tickets, equipment, and organizing. The problem was that he didn't realize that Trump PAYS FOR NOTHING and a bunch of other people (like Charlie Kirk) did the organizing with most of the people involved there voluntarily. So it was months wasted on chasing a invalid avenue of investigation.

Years of sowing distrust in mail-in voting ended up creating a massive structural disadvantage for his own party. Reversing course right before the election proves how brutal the math actually is when you deliberately handicap early voting turnout.

•

u/seriouslythisshit 7h ago

You now have a delightful mix of MAGAts that are so sickened by how badly Trump has screwed them and lied, particularly on Epstein, skyrocketing COL and the war, that they will just sit this one out. Then you have the dolts that are so stupid that they believe that he is their living god king, who only wants what is best for them, and is the smartest person on the planet. Those Amoeba level intelligence cult members have had the danger of mail in voting pounded into their gerbil brains for many years now, by Trump AND their handlers on Fox News, and will not change course at this point. They will just ignore the fact that the sweaty mango they worship has flipped his script.

Yeah, that whole Pardon power needs to be re-evaluated.
I see no reason that a temporarily elected leader should have unilateral power to commute a federally convicted criminal’s sentence.

•

u/Willthisaccountlas 7h ago

Trump doesn't care about anyone beyond perhaps immediate family and even that is debatable. He doesn't see other people as real with their own agency, just as things to be used and discarded.

He votes as a king does, and the little people are to do what he declares.

Meh fucking the mail-in system has been a priority for a long time. I'm guessing he see's (wait, is that a word? Sees? Saw? Seeing? Meh) the polls and put him into panic "BUT PEOPLE NEED TO KEEP US IN POWER!!!"

•

u/Shadraqk 5h ago

It’s an attempt to create the chaos he needs. Flood to broken mail system.

It doesn’t matter who they vote for chaos will create an alternate to counting votes and sets the stage for 2028.

81

u/ChipDangerCockoroo 9h ago

A big factor that baffles me about their whole anti vote by mail stuff is that so much of their base is older.

49

u/threehundredthousand California 9h ago

Trump used as it as vague reason the election was stolen. In Trump fashion, he must double down no matter what. He did the same with the COVID vaccine. He was somehow antivax and also trying to claim credit for the vaccine.

17

u/FizzyBeverage Ohio 8h ago

He doesn’t stand by anything and has said as much.

•

u/Indubitalist 5h ago

Yep, it was all ego on this one. He said it was stolen, he in-part blamed mail ballots, therefore he must hold to that rationale, except for when his ego is at risk of being hurt in a worse way by something contradicting that rationale, which would be “him losing” this election.

Similar to the logic of attacking masks and vaccines when older people most vulnerable to COVID are a big part of their voter base.

•

u/Tyrath Massachusetts 5h ago

I mean the masks smudged his makeup, so he had to be against them. I still maintain that he had just embraced masks & vaccines and started selling Trump branded masks he would've sailed to re-election.

Same with the voter ID stuff they keep trying to push. You really think your average MAGA voter whos never left their home state has a passport? Could very easily backfire on them and end up helping Democrats.

•

u/ChipDangerCockoroo 6h ago

Similarly with voter id they’d be disenfranchising married women who changed their last name compared to their birth cert if they don’t have a passport…

Democratic married women are significantly more likely to keep their last name after marriage.

they have all of elon's data (most of which was taken from government agencies via doge) on every voter now, they can selectively lose ballots for democrats while fast tracking those for republicans now

•

u/MilaKunisWatermelon 6h ago

Your vote is anonymous. There is nothing that ties your vote to your name.

•

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 6h ago

there's 17 other dimensions to determine if someone is likely to vote democratic or not. they don't have to know with 100% certainty. less than 5% of people register for the other party so they can vote in primaries despite not voting for that party in the presidential election, so just by knowing party registration of someone you know with very high accuracy if they'll vote republican or not, for example. there are many other data points that can give high accuracy all by themselves and when tied together they know very likely how each individual votes. someone who posts right wing propaganda on twitter all day every day they know to let their ballot go through the fast track, that's the type of data they have now. they have all our health data, they know to throw all trans people's ballots in the trash. they know rural voters vote one way 90% of the time, they can just fast track every single one and sure, you're right, 10% of them will end up being able to vote when they would rather they didn't but it doesn't matter statistically. you already know all of this though and want to give people false hope that the government isn't already doing this, as if we don't already see their gerrymandering and removal of voting sites in democratic areas and removal of post offices in democratic areas, they have the data to do far more targeted things internally at this point with the help of all the data they have. ai helps but isn't even necessary, just having the data which they now have is all they needed and you know it

•

u/Vladivostokorbust 4h ago

they know how precincts vote - plus many states allow registering "unaffiliated" and you can vote in either primary in any given year (just not both) they know which primary you voted in but they don't know who you voted for. that's all they need if they don't know your party registration

•

u/Practical_Chemtrail 3h ago

You are technically correct but the reality is that in order for your vote to be truly anonymous you would need to totally disengaged from any any all signals or behaviors that serve as a proxy.

For instance, where you live, what your income is, your education, your level of engagement with specific social media. The kinds of ads you engage with. Then we get more detailed, with regards to analysis of your digital presence and levels of engagement or disengagement with certain topics.

•

u/fultonchain 5h ago

This may well be the case. I expect losing a few percent registered Dem ballots for a few close races would be all it takes to preserve the GOP majority.

I'm optimistic that the Blue wave thinking is realistic, but without an unprecedented turn out and proactive state houses it may not be enough. Maintaining the status quo is always the easier route and if '24 proves anything it's that Americans are apathetic and lazy.

u/a_little_hazel_nuts 9h ago

Alot of elections are won with a 1%-5% margin. The way it's looking, Trump is losing 1 in 5 people. It's bad. Trump won because he picked up alot of Latino voters and young voters and Republicans need to pick up voters to win. All those people they picked up are leaving and then anybody with their own ability to think are leaving the cult. Most people are very irritated at grocery stores, gas stations, job market, or housing market. The Republicans have nothing to run on besides culture war BS and it's very revealing.

61

u/SomeDumbGamer 9h ago

Yup. This is it. There’s no middle left for the republicans to grab anymore.

People are either 100% maga or they’re just not going to vote if they hate democrats. But the people that got Trump elected are not going to vote republican this time.

The fact they’re spending as much as they are in Texas and places like Kansas should tell you something anyways.

•

u/seriouslythisshit 7h ago

Yea, Texas is one thing, but when you need to show up in Kansas as Republican election operatives, set the money cannon to millions and let it rip, you are really, really deep in shit. Hopefully, fatal, "It will take a generation to recover from this" level of fucked.

u/_kraftdinner 4h ago

I think part of the reason they were more willing to vote for him than last time is that when they were teenagers, Trump was the president. So they just think, that at some level, his behavior is normal for a president. Which honestly thinking about the kids who now think this is how the world is might be one of the things that makes me the most sad.

Agree I am thinking (hoping) that there is a significant subset who would never say to a pollster or other person out loud that they are voting D and who either will or will just not go out to vote at all. That they’re worried about saving face in their “social circle” (using the term loosely because dayum…) and double speaking to anyone who asks while not intending to follow through.

Pretty much any form of voting reform (or political reform at all) is impossible without uprising in the US because neither the Democrats nor Republicans will support anything that might weaken their grip on the system.

Republicans will do everything in their power to keep that from ever happening. they dont need to increase turn out, in fact, they tend to win when the middle stays home because democrats out number them.

Democrats wont push for that because they would be punished by their base for forcing them to do something.

u/JplusL2020 3h ago

This moron has backtracked on basically everything he's said and done this entire term.

2

u/Psephological 9h ago

Not that I have much hope in the traitor state anymore, but if the Dems start taking the institutions back, you need to fuck these people up. The leaders need to die in prison and every single rank and file MAGA collabo needs to be keeping their head down for the rest of their lives and never speaking about politics again.

2

u/tweedleduh 9h ago

Fuck that boy child.

2

u/Dolores___Haze 9h ago

This is comical

2

u/foco_runner South Dakota 8h ago

The mail is super slow in South Dakota now

2

u/thiefofalways1313 8h ago

I can’t wait for a day when there isn’t 100 different news stories of something crooked and stupid the President of the U.S. does or says.

•

u/Ceasman 7h ago

I’m sure mail in voting is easier for him to rig than in person. Got their hands on a lot of voter rolls and can now submit forged ballots for people who historically never vote.

•

u/peanutbuttergoodness 7h ago

Subscribe to read the article?? What on Earth?

•

u/IndividualHouse8628 7h ago

Stop. With. These. Articles. Go. Vote.

•

u/SuddenRadio6221 7h ago

If he can control which mail gets delivered, he'd prefer mail in ballots for everyone.

•

u/cwatson214 6h ago

This is probably due to realizing how many republicans vote by mail, but the cynic in me thinks this is just cover for when they steal another election - "see, we told them to vote!" as they disenfranchise reliably blue areas using USPS

•

u/Think-Willingness823 6h ago

Dear God, please pardon our sins in electing the stupidest human to lead us. We wholly admit our sins and will not vote for any republican again. We will wait for the true savior a (democrat) not the false prophet, to deliver us from evil.

•

u/Ok_Drawer_6325 5h ago

That’s should be an advertisement for democrats. Clips of Trump saying don’t vote by mail.

•

u/DodgyAntifaSoupcan 4h ago

Trump is so fucking stupid and spontaneous, it’s embarrassing to call myself an American.

•

u/lazyFer 4h ago

What's crazy is that I saw two Paxton ads during football today... In Minnesota.

Feels like those desperate fucks are trying to get some nationwide grift

•

u/soingee 4h ago

I think this is generally a good thing, as it may dissuade more Republicans from seizing mail in votes for "reasons".

But Republicans, if you're listening, remember that the only way to vote is to take off work and vote on election day.

•

u/SandersonEye 4h ago

Elon just told him he can’t cook the machines the same way this time so now he’s doubling back

•

u/sootbrownies 3h ago

Im still amazed he ever got this far being so incompetent.

•

u/realSwizey 2h ago

Oh no no no, it’s too fraudulent like he said, too much cheating and such right?

•

u/guttanzer 1h ago

Amazing.

Not only does he wear clown shoes, he needs custom Velcro ones because he can’t tie knots. In another month or two he’s going to need light ups so his staff can find him when he wanders off.

u/FluffyPantsMcGee 9h ago

Ignore the news and vote like your country depends on it.

1

u/tinyE1138 America 9h ago

You gotta be fucking kidding me.

1

u/WTFudge52 9h ago

Nah, fluffer you already said it was off the table for Republicans.

1

u/afoley947 America 9h ago

1

u/not2dv8 9h ago

I keep hearing that song "Going Dowm" by Jeff Beck

1

u/givin_u_the_high_hat 8h ago

He just realized they aren’t motivated to actually go to the polls right now.

1

u/sjm294 8h ago

Does this mean he isn’t going to slow down mail deliveries now?

1

u/Razordrake777 8h ago

Does he have the ability to feel embarrassment?

1

u/AmazingRefrigerator4 8h ago

Even if he tells them to, will the USPS be able to undo their Tucker fast enough? Or will Repubmican ballots just not arrive in time?

1

u/FlexFanatic 8h ago

So exercising the same right he used to vote. I’m shocked

1

u/Similar_Active3540 8h ago

America is too messy.
Not united and not safe.

1

u/dezm101 8h ago

Hes a psychopath who never makes any sense but we gotta beleive its some amazing strategy meanwhile ai wont let anybody get hired

1

u/azraels_ghost 8h ago

1

u/oddb0dy 8h ago

Fucking joke

•

u/okram2k America 7h ago

Someone finally whispered in his ear that mail in ballots are predominately retirees

•

u/Downtown_Mission_469 7h ago

Not even the name of the Republican Party remains!

Too much Win. Whaaa...!!

•

u/MyModemIsSlow 7h ago

But.. But.. What will happen with National Unconstitutional Surveillance, Grifting the American People, and gRAPE?

•

u/Repulsive_Chemist 7h ago

What an asshole.

•

u/BabyGodx42069 6h ago

What a pathetic loser, what do the Epstein files say about Bubba? I've heard some rumors but I wanted to compare those to the files.

•

u/Glittering_Method545 6h ago

What a fucking moron.

•

u/SourceOriginal2332 4h ago

Why would he care if he can just rig it ? I was told he stole this election and we would never vote again under the one true king God Emperor of the World Trump

•

u/oinkyboinky 4h ago

The irony is exquisite.

•

u/restore_democracy 4h ago

Makes sense, he said voting by mail is fraud and they’re all about committing fraud.

•

u/AlternativePizza3391 4h ago

I'm sure he has a plan to try and steal the election and when it fails he will have his goons storm the building again.

Dems need to prepare for this and the moment it's declared they win, send the military to protect the buildings

•

u/Vio94 3h ago

No, no, please. Continue dismantling mail-in voting. Aren't right wingers the biggest fans of always sticking to your convictions no matter what, and changing your mind is seen as being a traitor or some shit? Run with that. Voting by mail is SO prone to fraud, remember?

•

u/SaltySelkie217 3h ago

He never fed/watered his pets. Now most will bite him.

•

u/musicaleffervescence 3h ago

dems odds have taking congress have not improved. nice try tho

•

u/testtdk 3h ago

Right, so he can claim malfeasance in the system that he’s said is broken for months.

•

u/Lollipopsaurus 3h ago

This really feels like an open admission that any and all policy related to mail voting will be mostly enforced in "blue" areas.

•

u/Due-Signature-5076 3h ago

Giving the democrats a majority vote for the midterms would be a god sent for the world at large.

•

u/2BurlyBalz 2h ago

Every word this guy says digs him in deeper.

•

u/GB715 2h ago

The fix is in at USPS?

•

u/Student___Driver 2h ago

What. A. Little. Fucking. Punk. Bitch.

•

u/angelar_ Texas 2h ago

"Vote by mail so I can cross my eyes and disenfranchise you"

•

u/hexcodehero 2h ago

Everyone believes Dems are gonna win this. We’re up like something insane, 15 points in the generic?

Gurantee we will BARELY scrape by, if we even win at all. I love in NYC and vote every election. And am constantly let down by less educated people all over red states who have been falling for the same BS propaganda their entire lives. It’s so fucking infuriating and makes me resent all of those people. Why are me and all my friends so on top of it yet the people who matter in swings states are just honestly not smart or savvy politically. I’m so fucking tired.

•

u/bleakestholiday 1h ago

This man is likely the biggest loser and piece of shit to ever exist—Fuck Trump and his fascist turncoat supporters. Modern Nazis.
