Possible Paywall Trump’s Crazed U.N. Speech Met With Silence and Walkouts

the walkouts are one thing, but the lack of applause at the moments where he seemed to expect it must have made the room feel incredibly awkwarrd
6.3k
u/FlerplesMerples 12d ago
These international forums are by far the worst crowds for him. Everyone in the room has serious diplomatic goals. Everyone in the room has prepared extensively for this event. Everyone in the room is more intelligent than he is. His campaign-style grievance ramblings just don’t work in that kind of environment and despite being in New York, there’s no home field advantage. I’m actually glad he speaks at these things from time to time because we all get a glimpse of Trump without the culty buff he enjoys elsewhere. In this room, he’s seen as the naked stupid fool that he is.

Can we call it *way* worse? Oh... Racism, sexism, homophobia, etc are all on the table again too.
So yea, there's worse... But by how much?

What you’ve failed to list, is that the US’s unnecessary war has caused world wide economic chaos, pushing prices of food, fuel, shipping up for everyone. I'm no expert, but I remember the guy who wrote 'The Art of the Deal' for Trump saying that Trump doesn't really know what a lie is, he just believes that he can kind of create his reality by saying whatever he wants to be true and some people will believe it. Like when he lies about how many floors his building has. He doesn't think of it in terms of a lie, he just knows it helps him get what he wants.
But I think it's different now that he's losing cognitive function. He has no idea how to react when someone tells him "No, that's not true". He snaps, just like my dad did in his last stages of Alzheimer's.

That's exactly it. His family was personal friends with Norman Vincent Peale when he was young (the guy who wrote The Power of Positive Thinking, basically the granddaddy of "The Secret" and other similar "positive thinking" woo). Trump took this idea to heart at a young age, and developed this worldview that if you say a thing, you make it true, regardless of whether it was true before that.
For most people, this would be a pathetically ineffectual delusion that would eventually evaporate after colliding with reality, but Trump has always had so much wealth that he's been able to hire Yes-men that can either make things he says come true, or at least make them appear true, to him. If that fails, his lawyers clean up the mess for him. He's never had any real negative consequences from
lying'creating his reality,' so he's been able to convince himself that it's working.72

My 69 year old business owning, manual laborer Midwestern father eats, breaths, sleeps Fox News. He isn’t crazy merch wearing/flag waving MAGA…but he is a Trump supporter nonetheless. I personally blame the Fox News propaganda brainwashing being effective. He just spews all their talking points verbatim.
However, this morning, I got a 5 paragraph text from him saying how he might actually believe Trump lies and isn’t as good as people make him out to be. This is the first time, in over a decade, my dad has said anything negative about Trump. He’s always spun things around to try and not do it. But today he went all in. Saying he is embarrassing to watch. Admitting the war is stupid and he lied about it. Blaming him for prices.
The tides are slowly turning. And I hope more people are able to snap out of it.

The western world's just been trying to politely wait it out. The rest of the world has capitalised on it.
This is the weakest the US has maybe ever been.. The people in power are largely incompetent, corrupt, sell-outs. There has not been a better time to drag the US into war, than now. Theyre getting wrecked in the middle east and wasting resources. The conflict will escalate, Trump will claim whatever emergency powers. The US continues its downfall We already have Israel, Russia and China invading other countries.. thats going to escalate as the US gets weaker.

For anyone who wants to read the article
“President Trump’s confrontational, campaign-style speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday was met with silence and rejection, and both the Cuban and Iranian delegations walked out while he attacked them.
The beginning of Trump’s speech was met with several awkward silences, as he clearly waited for applause after declaring that “America is back and … stronger today than ever before.” He received none.
Later in his speech, the majority of the Iranian delegation chose to walk out after Trump asked the audience if he should “annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly” or “drive them into hell with no chance of survival.” After that, the Cuban delegation did the same—reacting to Trump’s claim that Cuba is an “absolutely failed state.”

These statements are extremely damaging to any hope of diplomacy, as Trump has been making threats of total annihilation of the Islamic Republic for nearly seven months. Trump is also absolving the U.S. of any wrongdoing, as many of Cuba’s past and present issues can be directly tied to the U.S. embargo and blockade of the country, which has cut it off from vital survival resources. And yet Trump chose to use the U.N. bully pulpit to present his version of reality—one that Cuba and Iran’s leadership chose to walk away from rather than entertain.”

How did not every sane person there just walk out?
Anytime anyone of any consequence gives him attention, it validates the stupid shit he says and does.

u/llamadogmama 12d ago
I agree. What a message it would send if every single person up and left when he entered ANY space.

I’m watching clips of his speech and once again he’s making an ass out of himself which he does a really good job at.
Trump’s an idiot and the worst president in the entire history of the United States of America.

I get the walk outs.
You are never going to get that time back and it could be better spent in any other way, like say getting dental surgery.

Embarrassingly declaring that Americans are going to call something the English language already has a name for, some other English name as though anybody could possibly give a good goddamn what Americans call things, threatening genocide...
Yeah nobody's sitting around listening to that fucking garbage.

His speech and his administration regularly stands for the exact opposite of the UN charter. For example:
to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbours, and
to unite our strength to maintain international peace and security, and
to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and
to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples,

When MAGA sends Presidents to the U.N., they're not sending their best.
They're sending rapists.
They're sending murderers.
They're sending incontinent trash.
And some, I assume, are smart enough to know it.

Before that, he "opened" his new helipad in the White House grounds, but courtesy of the press pool staying away1 , coverage was left to the White House's own media team, who are so incompetent they didn't mic him up, so filmed it from a distance, where he was drowned out by the sound of the helicopters.
- The Press Pool has five members: CNN, ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC. They have a rotating schedule of coverage of Presidential events and share the footage with the others, to avoid unnecessary duplication. Donald decided CNN was being insufficiently flattering of him, and together with MS NOW and Politico barred them from the Press Pool. The remaining members suddenly remembered that this banning infringed free speech (in reality: could set a dangerous precedent for them to be banned in future, maybe by him, maybe (in the case of Fox) by a Democratic President).

Do you think he ever walks in to this stuff with something prepared or is it all improv?

u/Bullfrog_Paradox 12d ago
I feel like he always walks in with a speech very carefully crafted by his handlers, but then just goes off the rails anyway because he's a senile, narcissistic psychopath.

My God. I feel so bad for our children. The psychopathic clown is formulating a horrible future for them and their children in this country. How many decades, generations will it take to repair the destruction the Republican Party has foisted upon us?

Dementia only gets worse with losing what little inhibition a person had. They can become physically violent, sexual in public, more accusatory and paranoid over things that never happened, fixate on different ideas or events, and also lash out more verbally.
Are we starting to get to the point where Trump is just too volatile to be seen in public? If not, how far will he go before republicans can’t keep holding him together like any of this is normal? His father admittedly had dementia in the last 10 years of his life so he already has the propensity for it. Trump himself undeniably exhibits the symptoms for it as well except republicans continue to deny reality.

I can't watch a 15 second clip of him speaking much less an entire speech. I would have walked out too.

Globally, people should laugh AT him publicly. Walk out of his speaches. He should be treated as the criminal and Villian he is.
Trump is a fraud, felon, rapist and traitor!
His next office should be a Nuremberg holding cell until his trail and punishment.
