By including a regional airport in the U.S. into the itinerary, I found it sometimes lower the total awards or just leading to no results. Is that common?

I’m eyeing for either HKG or PVG to non-hub cities in the U.S. next summer. Found 155k with negligible on AA’s Pvg route.
