New Player Advice New player
So i played a lot this afternoon and got the conclusion that the MSharpedo and MaLucario are good in their ways but have the downside of having an hard time against their wkeanesses and also against single prize decks due to the lack of spread damage. So i searched up a bit and saw the Zoroark and the slowking deck, i like a lot the fact that they have a lot of variety in their offensive repart and wanted to ask which one is better? I tried the Zoroark but feels like you need to know What your opponent is playing so u can bench the right pokemon other than zekrom, reshiram is quite situational but i think darmanitan can be very good. On the other side i didnt have the possibility to try slowking but got beat a lot of Times by him, the Kyurem attack is so good and also the metagross one. Any idea of which one is better? I think both are better then MSharpedo and MLucario thx to variety of the attacks and can hit quite as hard. Thx to anyone will help as always and sorry for the posting again but i want to be sure to pick a good deck and having a good time

both zoroark and slowking are harder to pilot, but very skill expressive, and I think which one is better depends on how many people play pult at your locals. my locals is pultless(we have about 10 regulars who all know not to bring pult unless its a cup), and in that case zoroark struggles(I still won a challenge over the weekend with it).
slowking does well into zoroark, and many other matchups, but I'm not sure of its weaknesses

Its not a problem if it isnt beginner friendly, i played yugi till last month so have a good familiarity with card games

Id play ns deck, use the version with the tomes at first since it allows you to fix benching mistakes and you will get the hang of your lines quickly. Its fun and very competitive, the tomes provide a way to surprise your opponent with something unexpected or fix a bad boardstate.
Another cool thing about the tomes is you can tome in a darumaka in place of meowth or something else that has been in for a full turn and immediately evolve it into darmanitan.
Its a fun deck, you still have some bad grass matchups, but no deck has good matchups across the board.
Slowking is good too, but its less skill expressive imo, its strategy doesnt change much between matchups and just becomes a question of whether you draw the cards or not, and its more susceptible to hand disruption (especially after using kyurem) since zoroark can usually trade its way back to a hand and may not reallybneed anything where slowking has to move Kang into the active in hopes of drawing all of the pieces that it needs to swing again (wondrous patch, an attacker to copy, the stadium, potentially slowking itself, and an energy to attach for turn).

Most people arent running lucian or hassel, instead opting for 4 lillies, but I like tinkering.

I mean, festival lead is kinda fake rn, and you can absolutely brick zam or slowking. Sharks have decent chances

The one with the best results in the past couple weeks is slowking probably and yes as you said zoroark is matchup deppendent and its a deck that usually plays however you want it to play, meaning that you can add and remove some cards to improve specific matchups.

N's Zoroark is a fine deck but just know that it is kind of a meme that is has no good matchups. You can win with it but it will take some skill and careful planning. Your best bet is to download tcg live and try a bunch of decks to figure out what you like to play before committing to one paper deck! But then again, decks aren't too expensive so try a bunch if you want and have fun!! Some people stick with one deck for a long time to try to master it, and others knee-jerk switch decks as soon as they have one bad tournament showing.
As you play the game more and more you will learn what you like to play and what you don't like. In any case, welcome to the hobby!

And slowking is basically just a combo deck. If you can get your combo off and blow up someone's board with kyurem you win.

I like to keep a deck for a bunch of time and i love a deck that rewards you for your skill and master of the deck, also Zoroark is my favorite pokemon. Right now im testing it on pokemon tcg live and got a Great feel about it, also love the variety of attacks and offensive moves

Question, can I use the double toma to change maybe a damaged Zoroark in a single prize?
1
u/CrimsonCoast 13h ago
I don't think that would work because Transformation Tome says choose a Basic pokemon and switch it with a Basic pokemon from your discard. Zoroark is a Stage 1 (evolved once) pokemon, not a Basic

dragapult is a very rewarding deck if you pilot it for a long time. There are a lot of decisions and you see a lot of cards via Drakloak's recon directive.

u/Puzzleheaded_Grade83 13h ago
Yeah i tried it but not a big fan honestly

Fair enough. Choosing a deck might take a long time. if you go to locals and tournaments you will see a lot of variety over time and might be surprised to find something you really like out of the blue! I was on Grimmsnarl for a while after Dengo rotated and I really loved that deck.

Yeah i tried a bunch but i think Zoroark is the one that gives me the best vibes

u/CrimsonCoast 13h ago
my 2 cents: make sure you play at least 1 zekrom and at least 1 reshiram. I see some lists that don't run reshiram at all and I shake my head...
1
u/Puzzleheaded_Grade83 13h ago
Yeah in playing one and one, i think to rise zekrom too 2 but im not sure, reshiram is situational but can deal a lot of damage

I’m not sure if either of those decks are technically beginner friendly.
Lucario is very good for beginners to learn with, and it also destroys N’s zoroark and can put up a good fight against most of the meta. The 1 weakness is clefairy/psychic types yes, but every deck has a weakness.
