[OC] the Mexican restaurant is trolling the church next door
•
u/Batchet 3h ago
Oh man, to really push their buttons someone should put up a sign near them that says, "Please invite someone to choose this month."

The "original" invitechuys.org website claims 28 people arrived from being invited by a friend through this sign. 🤣
So I'm not sure about the outreach of this particular method.

The first time got 28 people! Imagine, they could then themselves invite another 28 people, who each invite another 28 people. You only need the sign to work like this five times and suddenly you've got over 17 million more customers!

The website exists but has a disclaimer at the bottom saying it’s not officially affiliated with Chuy’s.

It is funny, but let’s not confuse chuy’s with Mexican.
•

I know we're being snarky right now, but as far as Tex-Mex chains go, Chuy's is pretty good.
•
u/DarkSpoon 3h ago
Maybe 5 years ago. They fell off hard.
•

Covid really did a number on them. They basically had to shrink down the menu to stuff that they could pack in to go orders easily, and the menu never recovered

Dude- when my Elivis chicken disappeared, I knew it was curtains.
•

It's back but they went with a more generic name, I'm assuming because they probably have legal issues using the Elvis name. It's called Green Chile Fried Chicken now. Lame. Haven't tried it under the new name but noticed it was back on the menu.
•
u/sipsyrup 2h ago
fwiw, my wife is friends with the daughter of one of the regional managers who was furious about having to reduce the menu, so hopefully they are healing
•

There aren't many Tex-Mex chains that haven't. Across the board it feels like that's a genre that has declined severely. I think the economy has been hard to navigate for them for the past few years.

Lies. A chuychanga with the jalapeño lime ranch dressing is still the bomb.
•
u/Car_wash_mechanic 17m ago
Chuychanga, steak burrito, chicken flautas. All done better by chuys than most Tex mex places
•

I regularly order a ton of their flour tortillas and make a bunch of different types of tacos with them. The price is so low it's almost certain they're going to raise it in this economy.

Lived in CenTex for 18 years. I heard that about Chuy's as well recently. I couldn't tell if the claim was factual or just all the newbee Austinites being all.....Austiny. I remember everybody , including me, loving Chuy's. Everytime a new restaurant was rumored to be opening in Temple, I'd hope that it was a Chuy's.

I had "nachos" there and it was two small tortillas, fried, cut in half, with like lettuce, tomatoes, and onions on them. It was pathetic.

Tried it in Texas and Northern Virginia. It was absolute garbage. I don’t understand the love for it.
•
u/a_talking_face 1h ago
They make their tortillas fresh, which you don't get from most chains, or even many restaurants at all really.
•
u/SafetyMan35 1h ago
Many of the local Tex mex restaurants near me in northern Virginia make them fresh in house.

Decent tacos and the hatch green chili salsa was amazing. And I loved that I could show up, get seated, order, eat, and pay within 20 minutes and be on my way back to work. All while spending $12 plus tip.

It’s not Mexican, your right. It’s not even Tex-Mex.
It’s almost a sit down Taco Bell!
•
u/Theletterkay 1h ago
It has always advertised itself as 100% Tex-Mex. And it is bomb
•
u/Ivyspine 1h ago
It's not though. Baja shrimp and hatch green chilies are not Texas
•
u/Andergaff 35m ago
Amen, hatch is New Mexico all the way, and honestly, green chile is full on Colorado. Nothing better than Colorado green chile. It ain’t Tex mex or Mexican. It’s just the best.

When I was a kid, my brother had a friend named Chuy. His mom was a great cook. We loved Chuy's

Or maybe the church is trolling the Mexican restaurant?
•
u/SH4DOWSTR1KE_ 2h ago edited 2h ago
Then I think it's more telling what's more valuable to society these days church or a Tex-Mex restaurant.
•
u/Lyndon_Boner_Johnson 2h ago
One of those is actually detrimental to society. The other one has fajitas.

•
u/Livid_Average_8098 1h ago
Well, they both have the same agenda at the end of the day. They need customers to make money.

If you invite a non-believer into a church, and they burst into flame. Does that count for arson or murder?

In a hilarious mix-up, someone is going to end up with really spicy communion wafers.

To add a little bit deeper lore, Chuy is also the nickname for Jesus. Much like Pancho for Francisco. Ki… kee-keh for enrique. And so on. Invite someone to Chuy’s is like inviting somone to church!!
Also i dont know a chuy’s restaurant so that’s how my thought process worked
