Those are both great pieces, can't wait until the 10 yr old stuff comes out

•

u/XyRabbit 11h ago

I'm down for the fire when the next gen drops

•

u/mixony 11h ago

The left one will be 10 year old stuff when she is 12 and the right one when she is 19

Props to whoever showed her Coraline! Although I was terrified by it at her age

•

we saw it in a theater a couple of years ago and watched it again last night. she’s super into horror so Coraline is a walk in the park for her. keeps asking me to see Obsession, I’m like I dunno girl ..

She's gonna love Fran Bow when she's the right age (seriously watch a play through before letting her anywhere near it -lots of gore/psychiatry themes).

I think she'll get a kick of of the art style.

oh cool thanks! I’ll check it out, never heard of it. just googled it and it looks amazing.

•

u/Hythy 9h ago

Like I said, probably a bit mature for her age: little girl who may or may not have killed her parents, kept in a mental institution where she has visions of gore and viscera falling from the sky, uses pills to help her see an alternative reality and solve puzzles.

But the style seems like something your daughter might enjoy when she's at an age you deem appropriate.

The middle part of the story has less disturbing imagery than the start and end, but it is there.

Here is a full playthrough for you to scrub through and make that determination yourself.

sweet thank you, looks amazing!

Found a plot summary so you know what it's about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKKDmoOJdK0

I'd recommend Doctor Who if she hasn't seen it. Lots of classic scary episodes which have kept generations of kids watching from behind cushions

•

u/DoctorOctagonapus 9h ago

"Are you my mummy?"

One single line, and an entire generation that has never known wartime is afraid of gas masks!

•

u/50mm-f2 9h ago

I actually haven’t watched a lot of Doctor Who myself, great rec thank you, definitely going on the list!

•

u/WonFriendsWithSalad 9h ago

Great! Blink might be a good episode to start with if she really likes scary because it also works well as a stand-alone. (Note there's a joke about a man accidentally not wearing pants in front of a woman but it's pretty minor)

She's better at 9 than I have been my entire life (60+) Bravo!

I MIGHT be able to do better than her at age 2.... MAYBE.

I was just thinking her 2 year old drawing is what I would draw now at 43.

•

She has an amazing future in art ahead of her, please nurture this interest. Even at 9 years old she clearly has a sense of color and form and expression, and it'll be amazing to see how her skills develop. Don't be overbearing, but definitely keep track of her progress over time, it'll be really cool to reflect on in another 9 years.

thank you! she goes through phases with her art. there was a period of time when she stopped drawing completely and I just let her have her break. then she went through a digital phase earlier this year (that’s one of her ipad drawings). but recently she picked up drawing by hand again. I just let her explore it at her own pace and offer whatever support I can with supplies. I absolutely agree about not being overbearing.

•

u/Cutter9792 10h ago

Goddamn that's amazing

•

u/50mm-f2 9h ago

thank you, yea she learned how to work with layers and everything, so she does her sketches for the proportions and outline, then hides the layers, etc. it’s very impressive. I’ve worked with photoshop for years and she just flies on these apps way faster than me.

i would be so proud

Artist here. She's doing great! I'd recommend the art book "Figure it Out! Drawing Human Proportions". It's essentially a cheat-sheet for how parts of the body relate to each other in terms of scale. There's nothing wrong with anime style (I draw in it myself!) but this would be the next step toward getting a handle on human anatomy.

I also recommend the website AdorkaStock. It's a repository of 10+ years of live-action reference poses taken by a woman and her friends. They are great for artists doing comics (and they all have clothes on) and there's a sketch mode for practicing figure drawing. It's a great substitute for actual figure drawing classes, which aren't always appropriate for kids of her age.

Finally, she might enjoy Clip Studio in addition to Photoshop. It's free, with the option to pay for more advanced features. There are more brush options, features tailored toward comics artists, and a pose feature so you can reference a 3D model directly in your drawing window :)

Best wishes to you and your artist! :D

awww thank you great suggestions, will definitely get that book! she’s used clip studio before now she’s on ibis paint and procreate. thanks for the adorkastock recommendation too, I haven’t heard of it, will check it out!

Wish you'd at least tell us which is which.

•

u/50mm-f2 11h ago

sorry, 2 is on the right, it really went downhill from there

•

u/BVoLatte 11h ago edited 10h ago

Judging by her size in that photo, I'm sorry your child is suffering from the Benjamin Button disease.

•

u/Free2Bernie 11h ago

She decided to go with a minimalism style. Respect.

•

u/hummingbird1346 11h ago

2 IS ON THE WHAT?

•

u/nyrB2 10h ago

THE RIGHT!

•

u/Calraider7 11h ago

Nice.. reminds me of our youngest. She wanted to trace everything then around 10 she just tried things and VIOLA!!
Was an Art Minor in college, then got her MBA.. still draws and it’s a good skill. Congrats to you little one!!

•

u/atakamoto 8h ago

the one at 2 is more impressive to me. At 2 my daughter couldn't even keep in the lines of colouring pages. Shes 3 now and can't draw a heart, only circles and lines...

•

u/sylanar 7h ago

Yeah I'm surprised that's at 2,mine loves drawing but at 3 she just about draw a face, if you squint and mostly forget what a face looks like, there's no way she would do anything as neat as that

•

u/Tintenklex 11h ago

People are only focussing on the 9 year old, but I have a 2.5y old and his daycare staff is super happy with him because he can kinda draw a line or something remotely resembling a circle. If she was only just two (and not almost 3), she was way ahead of her peers at that age, too!

•

u/50mm-f2 10h ago

that was like 3 months after she turned 2. it was the first drawing she did resembling a person, so it was really special for me and I was like wow she’s definitely onto something here. it’s been amazing to see her progress over the years. enjoy the ride, it really does fly by!

•

u/Tintenklex 10h ago

Thank you, I love this current stage, so much fun.

But again, yeah, WOW. Non of the kids in my sons daycare has been remotely able to draw anything similar at 2.3y. So good that you kept that photo as a memory and so cool she still enjoys art!

•

u/50mm-f2 9h ago

I’ve kept pretty much all of her drawings over the years in a special bin labeled “very important” that is one of the first things I take with me whenever I move. this is one of my favorites from when she was 4 :)

•

u/illbedeadbydawn 1h ago

My 3.5 twins are just now getting to smile faces and adding legs and arms to...things.

So you got quite the artist! Excellent work all around.

•

u/Ophidiophobic 6h ago

Haha - I was thinking the same. My 2 yo is still drawing scribbles. Hasn’t managed a straight line yet, let alone a circle.

•

u/skinnyminnesota 11h ago

Holy crap. Nuture that talent!

•

u/nyrB2 10h ago

she's quite talented - i couldn't draw that well *now* and she's only 9!

•

u/Twistfaria 10h ago

This is really well done for a 9 year old. She has a good grasp of proportions. Encourage her to keep pursuing art. She’s got real skills.

•

u/Chemical_Nervous 11h ago

Reminds me of Coraline and Harriet the Spy 💖

•

u/50mm-f2 10h ago

it is Coraline! she loves to draw in anime style so she did an anime Coraline before we watched the movie again last night

•

u/Chemical_Nervous 10h ago

I'm guessing she would absolutely love Harriet the Spy and Matilda. I grew up on those movies.

•

u/50mm-f2 9h ago

She loves Matilda but hasn’t seen Harriet the Spy, adding to the list!

•

u/Sweatytubesock 11h ago

I love her 9 year old style.

•

u/Southern_Salary_2253 11h ago

Man shes really gone down hill, the one on the right looks nothing like humpty dumpty.

•

u/sesamesnapsinhalf 11h ago

She has a good sense of proportion!

•

u/muhsli 11h ago

I have a 9 year old and I relate to this, thanks for sharing! It made me smile!

•

u/whoopz1942 10h ago

Her drawing at 2 reminds me of my first drawing of a human, I still have it kind of. My dad turned it into a bathroom tile which is still at his place.

•

u/weaselswarm 5h ago

Pretty darn good for a 9 year old

•

u/kain459 1h ago

Keep watering her talent, it's growing.

•

u/mtvyoloswag 11h ago

Looks like a kid drew it.

•

u/LilJelloCat 11h ago

Eggman

•

u/I__G 11h ago

I prefer the first one

•

u/Pinku_Dva 10h ago

Foster that sense of creativity as long as you can. She definitely has talent and a drive for it.

•

u/ric0shay 10h ago

The first style of drawing is so common, I like to think thats what adults look like to toddlers.

•

u/casper-b 7h ago

The second one reminds me of Charlie and Lola

•

u/mull77 7h ago

Definite improvement

•

u/MaGoodenough 4h ago

The 2 year old drawing is really cute. Lol

•

u/nydboy92 3h ago

Is the drawing the girl from Wonder Egg Priority?

•

u/randomguy8653 3h ago

that child drew better at 2 than i ever have, and im 37.

•

u/Ghost-hat 11h ago

First one is toddlerslop but the second one shows real promise
