Imagine being so racist than even Japanese people are like "dude, you're too much."
•
u/Ylsid 10h ago
It wouldn't be in English if a Japanese person wrote it
•
u/Freak_Out_Bazaar 6h ago
It is made by a Japanese guy and you underestimate the ability for non-English speakers to understand basic English
•
u/MonaganX 9h ago
It's less likely but plenty of protesters from countries around the world use English signage for more international reach, especially when it's directed at the US.
•

u/FuriousBuffalo 12h ago
The pedo raised prices around the world. So the hate is warranted at least based on that.
•
u/Freak_Out_Bazaar 8h ago edited 6h ago
This guy (and his group) does this regularly in that location, near SE exit of Shinjuku station). Honestly their message is so mixed I have no idea what they are aiming for. I feel they are just anarchists. In Japan you can protest about anything as long as you get a permit from the municipality, you can’t just suddenly show up with a sign
Edit: Also, how the hell are people zooming in to this picture and assuming this guy is white (unless they are literally referring to their skin tone)

Didn't Japan just increase by 20x costs to be an immigrant to Japan?
30
u/three_burgers 13h ago
This doesn’t add up. It’s almost like there are different people with different opinions there!

Yes. Xenophobia and misinformation about foreigners being leveraged for political gain is everywhere.

No. They had an extremely cheap rate before and bumped it up to match that of other developed countries. It’s still significantly less than others.
And it’s not to be an immigrant, either.
A quick google search is better than a blasè Reddit post.
•
u/porterbrown 6h ago
"To be an immigrant means to move to a foreign country with the intention of living there permanently"
•
u/PorkyPilates 6h ago
My bad! I meant it’s not “always” to be an immigrant, either. I was going to refer to Chinese thieves and scammers.
•
u/captainhaddock 28m ago
Yes. The influence of MAGA and Twitter becoming a xenophobic cesspool has spread like a cancer to Japan during the past two years. During the recent election, the ruling LDP swerved toward anti-immigrant sentiment (despite the economy needing foreign labor and tourism more than ever) to stave off a challenge from an upstart fascist party. The result is a bevy of new rules designed to make life more difficult for non-Japanese nationals.

u/arielsosa 13h ago
At least they are only xenophobic in their own country. Americans will go to your country to tell you how shitty it is and how great America is in contrast.
7
u/HobbesG6 13h ago
Nah, it's not just Americans. People from all over are very keen to visit another country and complain about a lack of foreign hospitality. Stupid isn't owned exclusively by Americans. Lol

You mean like all the 3rd world immigrants who travel to the western world and talk shit about the country they arrive in? Then try to change it to be more like the shithole they left?

surprising to see this in Tokyo considering that a lot of Japan is pro Trump and conservative ideals. Just look at the current party in power.
upon closer inspection this looks to be a Westerner that just happens to be in Japan, and not the Japanese people themselves doing this
•
u/alien4649 6h ago
Most Japanese cannot comprehend how a convicted criminal can be elected. They also think he’s an absolute moron who constantly lies. (Longtime resident in Tokyo.)
•
u/crunchycr0c 1h ago
This guy is Japanese. Not a westerner. I was there and spoke to him yesterday
•
u/darkandark 19m ago
not sure why he isn't protesting against his own government then, as they're being as buddy buddy to Trump as possible, while accepting his bail out of the joint currency intervention and implementing some fairly xenophobic immigration policies 🤣
•
u/Duster526 6h ago
No hate……..two words later “I HatE ThIs GuY in ParTiCuLar”…..…..if they got rid of those two words the sign would make sense!

Most likely Americans.I live in Japan, and, when out with some friends one night, saw a fat progressive graffiti a power box with ‘Free Palestine!’ in black marker. Such a brave gesture.
I’ll not say which sub it is for my own sake, but there’s one specifically for the city I live in here, which has a minority of Americans that shit on about Trump while the amount of F’s we give plummets into the minus thousands.
We are very f’ing sick of American politics and its effect on the rest of us, even here in Japan.
Losers.

I agree with the sentiment but Japanese society is not known to be a tolerant diverse melting pot.

u/Muslim_Wookie 13h ago
Look I'm really sorry but I will never take any "No Racism" message from a Japanese person seriously.
I even realise that is literally a racist position. I have just had far too many "progressive" Japanese housemates that are exactly like my Polish parents who talk about how Jews steal money legally but it's OK because they do good shops with good deals so it evens out, and so long as they don't live in our street it's OK. See, we're not racist!
Wide brush I know, OK I'm done I guess.

You I guess added a caveat saying as much...
Wide brush
...but 'Japan' isn't a unified bloc, just as we aren't all MAGA, and Democrats in the populace aren't all centrists. To wit, there Japanese right now looks up to MAGA (as is the case in Korea as well), so the message of criticism is in part also directed internally, toward their own factions.

Japans racism is what makes it the place it is. The fact I can walk around Tokyo and there are shops I can’t go into is good.
They haven’t yet fallen to the suicidal empathy of the west.
I know you all will hate this take but that’s just fine, I’m right regardless.

u/AnteaterNorth6452 12h ago
You're right but get ready for the down votes lmao.

Imagine walking by a restaurant with a sign out the front that says "Don't speak Aussie? Fuck off we're full"
A society in which such a sign is acceptable?
Japan.

Japanese are more progressive than they seem to be represented online. People can be racist anywhere regardless of where they’re from.

It’s funny and how disillusioned Trump is in feeling the world is going to give him any kind of positive respect in history.
This picture will go in a history books to help describe Trump‘s carelessness and destruction towards other human beings and countries.

u/dandroid126 13h ago
My wife has found swear words on shirts for sale in Japan. A lot of people there either don't understand or care that the words are offensive in western culture.
I don't think it's particularly out of character. I don't think they feel strongly about English swear words.

u/Special_Kestrels 12h ago
I saw some chick at the mall in Japan a few years ago wearing a shirt that said I WANT TO FUCK. This was fairly rural Japan so I wonder if she even knew what it meant

u/RampantHedgehog 13h ago
Why are you replying as if you’re Japanese lol
The Japanese people are generally not making signs with expletives - they’re much more reserved than that.

It's ok to hate nazis
•
u/PorkyPilates 6h ago
It’s not ok to compare the Nazis to the American conservatives. It reduces the vulgarity of what the Nazis did.
Just call them racists and bigots. You’re ruining a history lesson with over exaggerated rhetoric
•
u/speak-eze 6h ago
There are plenty of Nazis out there today, Nazi does not just refer to Hitlers government.
And the Nazis that do exist today vote republican

As much as I agree with the statement here, Japan still doesn't teach WWII history in schools. They got bigger fish to fry.

i love how everyone in the comments thinks japanese people are some kind of monolith, but if i were to say that some random anti-trump american was responsible for trump's actions, I'd be sent death threats

Japan is a very clean and moral place. Especially in public areas. They do not tolerate bad/rude behavior. Most likely the Japanese police will make him leave or remove the sign.
