Stress of the office ages all the presidents

It used to only age the president rapidly. Now it ages all of us rapidly.

It's called outsourcing, why age yourself when you can vampire an entire nation instead?

I don't think he's stressed, he doesn't care enough to do a good job for that
28
u/FalafelSnorlax 17h ago
Stress requires an understanding of the responsibility that you have and some self-consciousness about your ability (or lack thereof) to handle it. Trump has neither.

There's no way he wasn't aware of the joke. That bit was so on point that there's no way he (or at least one of his staff members) didn't think of this as a way to own the joke and thus end it.

They hate family values or something?
49
u/theDarkDescent 23h ago
they hate first, and work backwards from that. They hate Obama, so they figure out a way that they must have to hate his education, his family, his objective successes. Trumps entire first platform was just to undo the good things Obama did simply because republicans were mad about it, not because of any actual policy or concern for the welfare of Americans. Millions of people voted away their own healthcare because it was nicknamed Obamacare. Literally that’s it. Threw away access to healthcare for themselves and their dependents because idiots on Fox News called it Obamacare, and Obama bad. If only they didn’t fuck over so many other people with their idiocy

I was allowed the privilege even in rural Midwest (thanks to my librarian who has now passed, what a wonderful woman for so many reasons) because the LIBRARIAN of all people pushed back against the school administration to orchestrate things so that every student could watch his inauguration. I ate my cold pizza and potato smiles while I watched, on a bigass tv wheeled in on a cart, the first black president get inaugurated. There were no black kids in that room. To my memory 1 in that entire K-8 school. But the influence that held on every single one of us cannot be overstated. Mrs. Hilficker, thank you. Bumfuck nowhere Indiana needed you, and you showed out. I miss class in the Oval Office
63
u/Theletterkay 1d ago
My school did a mock election and i remember being the only white girl confidently walking over and sitting on the obama side. I had a ton if friends on his side and they were all whooping and hollaring saying i was the only white girl with a brain. Cracked me up.
The south is just weird.

My entire company was in the lunch room watching. I saw so many tears of happiness that day. This is in Australia, and we had one American in our company. He was the only one still at his desk, working, and man was he angry - he was a very proud GOP supporter.
As a sign of just crazy different our country's politics are, noone even understood what he was so pissed about. Politics ain't that charged over here, so it made no sense.

I'd say a lot of the other world leaders and governments do too. Even if they disagreed on policy or trade, they likely saw him as not only more reasonable to deal with and a proper statesman, but also more dependable with regards to honoring agreements, whether they were his own or from prior administrations. Sure, some people who know how to manipulate Trump can get what they want out of him, but it's like dealing with a chaotic agent in that you never know if he will suddenly go back on his word if he finds it isn't good for him financially or personally. He will throw allies under a bus if it gains him anything.
43
u/peazley 1d ago
That’s because that’s how normal politics/business works. You come to an agreement and hold it. You do this to keep the relationship going forward. You compromise. You don’t always get your way, but you gain respect between parties so that you can work together in the future.
→ More replies (1)8
u/Jesus_Is_My_Gardener 23h ago
It just shows that Trump doesn't understand a positive sum game, only a zero sum one where someone has to be the loser. He has no concept of both parties getting something they want out of the deal and collectively everyone walking away better for it. It's in the language he uses and the shit "deals" he makes.

Every time I see a picture of the Obamas I can’t help but think, “I have never seen nor could I ever imagine a similar photo of Donald and Melania Trump.” In photos of the Obamas you can always sense genuine happiness, warmth, joy, care, or love. You will never see Trump or Melania smile like this, much less when they’re together in the same photo.
