“To the sovereigntists, I say this: your obsession with holding and winning a referendum harms the progressive cause and feels like psychological harassment to a majority of the population. Many voters share my view.”

These words may seem like they would come out of the mouth of a federalist politician in Quebec, but they were written by Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon in his book Les Orphelins politiques (The Political Orphans) published in 2014.

Twelve years later, St-Pierre Plamondon has become the leader of the sovereignty movement in Quebec, promising to hold the referendum that he once deplored.

For anyone wondering who this piece of shit is, he's your typical conservative dickhead. Anti-woke, anti-immigration, Joe Rogan-esque conspiracy theories, Musk-obsessed, etc.

Canadian JD Vance.

He's currently leading polls in becoming Quebec's next premier.

If a meeting took place, would that be treason?

Yes. We have this happening in Alberta with Americans and the traitors out there. CSIS/RCMP has failed to act.

And he'll still win, and do his best to work against Canada in every way he can.

So then in a few years he can turn around and say hey, look how much everything is broken, we need to separate.

Diplomatic staff routinely meet with likely election winners in advance of elections. This is not scandalous.

Replace PQ and Quebec with UCP and Alberta and you would be outraged and rightfully yelling treason.

I don't think so; not for an ordinary provincial election. If we had evidence that the US was interfering in the Alberta referendum, that'd be different. I mean, they likely are, and that's a scandal.

But the PQ is predicted to win the Quebec election. Getting familiar with an incoming provincial government is ordinary. I'd expect that Canadian officials are similarly touching base with both candidates in the Michigan governor's race.

Oh right, it's credible that the guy who openly wants to harm Canada and says he believes the US government more than the Canadian in trade talks, who openly works with the US-backed separatists in Alberta, was just harmlessly "touching base" with the US state department.

Just a smol bean doing what's best out of the goodness of his precious widdle heart. Yeah.

trump's an asshole, but the fact that US diplomatic staff are talking to the likely winner of a Canadian provincial election is not, in itself, either remarkable or unusual. As I said, Canadian diplomats will be meeting with the candidates in gubernatorial races in the big border states, as well. This is a routine part of diplomacy.

The time to get excited is when it's not a relatively junior career diplomat from State, but one of his kitchen cabinet of unelected cronies & fart-catchers.
