Why am I getting feared

Post image

I have both protection from evil and Unholy aura up. Mind affecting immunity means immunity against fear too, yes?

Nop. I believe Fear is a seperate effect. Mind is paralyze and wail of the banshee, phantasmal killer etc. Iirc that is!

Waill of the Banshee is a Necromancy spell with Fortitude save, so it wouldn't be stopped by immunity to mind-affecting spells

I think Weird is the 9th level save or die spell you are referring to that will be affected by immunity: mind spells.

Protection from evil protects from mind affecting spells ( fear aura) of "evil creatures". So creature is not an evil obviously.

Maybe, It isn't evil creature?

Anyway, its better to grab 2 lvls of paladin - divine grace, fear imune, disease imune.

Agree, it looks like a spider, which is likely neutral.

If you have protection from evil and are still getting feared, you are fighting a non-evil creature

I learned the hard way that Desther from the original campaign is flagged as neutral alignment, and therefore all his spells like Cause Fear and Hold Person bypass Protection from Evil.

This fear comes from an aura. There différent kind of fear and this on bypass mind spell protect. Most aura can do it. Just dnd fuckery. Did u try a specific anti terror pot or spell?

- Dread Witches take note, while also pondering how to NOT set themselves out of commission.

In the tabletop, "fear" is an effect under the category "morale" - thus to be immune to fear effects, you either need to be immuni to "fear effects" itself, or to the parent category of "morale effects".

Or have the mindless trait, as that also includes immunity to fear effects ¯\(°_o)/¯

creature probably is neutral

You have immunity to mind spells, so any mind spells that happen to cause fear will
not affect you. In this case it was an aura. You would need a proper immunity to fear to be protected against things like a dragon's fear aura.

Immunity to minds spells works on Dragon Aura.

More likely this is a neutral creature.

Fear spells aren't mind spells. Mind spells are things like domination, charming, mind fog, etc.

Different sources of fear check for different immunity. Suras generally need specific dear immunity while spell can be blocked by mind immunity or school immunity.

Fear is weird like that. Also "protection vs" effects heavily rely on npc having proper alignment set, plenty of modules that never do so. Premium modules and official campaigns are also not an exception to this, frankly some of the premiym modules are extra lazy about such things.
