I hope the Clippers just let Rui jack a shit ton. I really want to see how much he can really score. His consistency is truly remarkable. His only true value is scoring so I want them to just let him keep shooting this season.

I swear he hit every open shot in last year's playoffs.

He's just a demon when it comes to jumpers. That's like all he can do though so I get why we let him go but always gonna be a Rui fan. He's great

u/charliekirkbread 5h ago

Still can’t believe the lakers let him walk

Ruis amazing. But he doesn't fit with the current Lakers roster. His shooting was great but his attitude was even better. Hope he does great things and gets paid even more.

Lakers most needed position is PF yet somehow some Lakers fans convinced themselves Rui doesn’t fit with the roster. Beggars can’t be choosers.

The wing fa is pretty stacked next year and the lakers can offer the MLE afaik, I think the FA had a clear focus on taking the load off Luka with more ball handling and guards who can beat screens.

imo the double big has been making a come back so having a guy that could slot in at the 4 in situations while still allowing us to play 5 out with a stretch 5

u/Skip_To_My_Lou2 [LAL] Nick Van Exel 4h ago

I mean he still needed a contract and he doesn’t rebound or defend

6

u/ManonFire1224 4h ago

Mamu doesn’t defend and isn’t half the offensive player Rui is.

11

u/LookOtherWeigh 4h ago

I think the problem with rui was they he wasn't as versatile. This year they're looking to close the gap defensively and get a lot more paint touches.

1

u/ManonFire1224 4h ago

What are you not getting? Mamu is a worse defender than Rui. Mamu is not playable in the playoffs. What gap was closed by signing Mamu over Rui?

12

u/LookOtherWeigh 4h ago

Bro. Why you sound defensive? Notice I say "I think" because I expect the fo has a better idea of the vision than I do. And I'll guarantee my post history shows how bad it hurt to see rui go.

Rui is a catch and shoot beast. Mamu is going to disrupt the paint and not be standing on the permiter waiting for a pass. Which is all the Lakers had last season outside of Aytons emotional ups and downs. This team is going to be doing a LOT of paint touches this year. It's a completely new identity.

Please show me rui assists, please show me rui ball handling, please show me rui rim pressure. JJ values players who can dribble, pass and shoot.

We have a guy that has shown when the team fits around him he can take you to the finals, yea Rui might do a lot of things better than Mamu I don’t disagree but when you have a guy like a Luka it’s not always about best player it’s about best fit.

Rui can't pass, rebound, or play d. I love rui but I don't think I've ever seen an nba player whose worse at defense. Yeah he's a great shooter but that's all he does.

u/Skip_To_My_Lou2 [LAL] Nick Van Exel 3h ago

Mamu is a better defender, rebounder, dribbler, and passer? Rui can shoot that’s his entire game

2

u/solidsteppa6 1h ago

Only 1 of these guys are reliable playoff depth.. I’ll give u a hint it’s not Mamu

2

u/Aggressive-Law-9305 3h ago

He defends in the post at least. He’s not the shooter Rui is but he can actually put the ball on the floor he was good at rip and goes and he’s a better passer than Rui is.

u/barath_s Lakers 2h ago

Beggars can’t be choosers.

Rui had a 28m cap hold. Lakers gave up his bird rights to clear cap space for all the signings. Eventually it turned out that Rui signed for 2/28 or AACV of $14m, just a tad more than Mamu at $13m AACV. But Mamu is more versatile than Rui, even though Rui is a better shooter in his spots. And IMHO Mamu was signed early, before they knew what Rui would settle for. Mamu is a PF/C who does everything - rebounding, defense (debated), decision making/passing , etc - better than Rui except shooting. He plays a faster style. Rui has the better efficiency from spot up 3 and iso mid range. I think they took mamu for fit. They couldn't have taken both due to salary cap space.

When we say he doesn’t do anything impactful but shoot we mean it

-7

u/charliekirkbread 4h ago

Oh you’re on the team ? You said we as if you play for the team

7

u/KarrotMovies [LAL] Chris Mañon 4h ago

We still doing this gimmick in 2026?

-7

u/charliekirkbread 4h ago

It’s not a gimmick you really do sound like a major loser saying shit like “oh yea we know he can’t shoot”

7

u/petestrumental Lakers 4h ago

I mean, the "we" that he is using could mean the fans.. Like, "we, the fans, can see that he can't do anything but shoot." Which is fine. I think it's weird when people start saying shit like "we gave up 20 points in that quarter"...

-1

u/charliekirkbread 4h ago

I mean maybe if his response wasn’t tone deaf and condescending I’d give him the benefit of the doubt . Could of said some shit like “yea but he doesn’t do anything great other than shoot” without sounding like a jack ass

1

u/mas1108 Lakers 3h ago

wtf are you on about lol

1

u/barath_s Lakers 2h ago

Lakers had to give up Rui's bird rights to clear his 28m cap hold and open up space under the salary cap to remake the roster including signing Kessler.

Then they wound up using the MLE on Sexton.

Rui is pretty good but his fit with the current roster isn't quite as good. He's excellent at shooting from the corners, but not versatile in scoring.

Let Rui Jack 👏👏

Give me 18 shots from Rui Hachimura nightly and shit, I might just tune into Clippers games

1

u/mehcantbebothered 4h ago

Straight jorkin it

5

u/brainspl0ad Clippers 4h ago

I mean, with everything that's gone on and considering the team and everything surrounding it (like BIs injury) I don't see why he wouldn't have a green light

42

u/WeCantBothBeMe 5h ago

He’s picked up where he left off

21

u/Shadoken-TYPE0 Canada 5h ago

I already miss Rui

21

u/WobbleKun Raptors 4h ago

rui is a fantastic player. i swear he gets punished cause people expect him to play defense and rebound cause he's a big dude. but if he was white and skinny he'd get paid double the amount as a shooter lol

u/TarnishedChoom Lakers 5h ago

1

u/tulaero23 Timberwolves 4h ago

They went for John Collins

10

u/big_axolotl San Diego Clippers 5h ago

….fine I’ll watch this season

24

u/guidethyhandd Timberwolves 5h ago

I’m reaching like crazy but I have a very small feeling that by the end of his career we’ll be calling him one of the greatest shooters ever

8

u/tulaero23 Timberwolves 4h ago

Some will say Bird and Curry learned from Rui

Klay Thompson can’t create for himself.

4

u/Poopcie 4h ago

Neither could kyle korver

3

u/Awanderingleaf 4h ago

Or JJ Reddick.

2

u/guidethyhandd Timberwolves 5h ago

True, hopefully he has an MPJ-esque season where he has the green light to shoot at a significantly higher volume

4

u/TemporaryTangelo4084 5h ago

He's literally a superstar right now

3

u/Shepher27 Timberwolves 4h ago

The further west Rui gets the better he plays

10

u/coturnixxx 5h ago

Rui was amazing during the playoffs, still cant believe Lakers let all the starters go.

5

u/awntawn Lakers 4h ago

"Who would the Lakers even trade for anyone? Their whole roster is trash"

"I can't believe the Lakers let all their starters go"

u/Zoobal Mavericks 1h ago

Letting Rui walk to pay Grimes is not going to be looked at favorably in the near future, especially when you also spent money on Sexton.

5

u/Awanderingleaf 4h ago

Lakers were stupid to let him go. One of the only role players that were a bright spot for them the last few seasons.

2

u/KaraDealer Lakers 4h ago

Rui looking like a MIP candidate out there. 👀

Rui has been balling today

BI, Rui, Brook and Dunn I'll enjoy watching the Lakers outcasts this season. Maybe score season tickets on the cheap

1

u/SirHighground1 Spurs 4h ago

How is he not on a contending team.

6

u/Pokefreaker-san Lakers 4h ago

I mean you lot passed on him no?

Loved his shooting, but could never trust him going for a layup or dunk
