People over focus on his defense while ignoring that a lot of his bad defense comes from a lot of their guys aren't good defenders, and its legitimately better for him to stand there and give up the open layup than contest and foul. He has his weaknesses, hence why he can't contest without fouling like wemby/AD and the like, but thats the reality of a slow big man in the modern nba.
During their championship run and the year after he looked pretty okay defensively and their team defense was hovering around top 10. KCP plus a healthy Gordon were doing a ton to keep jokic from being under the cup in a layup line lol
They also ignore the fact he runs the offense and plays 38+ a night - thats going to reduce the defensive effort significantly. The coach/team probably doesnt want him to burn out in the first half and then finish each night with non joker minutes
