Was Shai the only player on that team to congratulate the spurs?

231

u/Emekfl May 31 '26

I mean, isn’t it difficult to congratulate someone when they are all celebrating amongst themselves? Ant mentioned this a week ago lol. Sga got in early and bounced.

161

u/DisMeDog May 31 '26

Yup this is why Ant didn’t wait for the game to finish. Nobody on the opposing team is interested in you after a big series win they want to celebrate with their team.

u/soligen May 31 '26

Curious too lol, didn’t see any interaction

I saw a shot of Caruso congratulating Harper. Seems like the other Spurs were too emotional in the moment to acknowledge the other team.

u/_Abzu 76ers May 31 '26

It seemed to be that way I think it was a mixture of many ok player leaving quickly in frustration because they knew they didn't perform, and also the spurs pretty much rushed to hug each other while being picked apart by wemby one by one until none of the were left

They really must have preached the importance of every possession in that locker room because he hustled his ass off to make a perfect block.

47

u/WackyJumpy May 31 '26

100% Vassell has been so crucial for us, statistically he caused fits for whoever he was defending and he elevated his game in different ways throughout the series. He can be red hot from three a times, while also being a great rebounding guard. Hes going to be so crucial to our success going forward even if it isn’t measurable on paper.

he's straight up taken the face of the league. and if he wins the Finals, which i think he will, he will be cemented as that firmly. It's his NBA now. It's his era

234

u/thejackel225 76ers May 31 '26

He already has it. If NYK wins brunson is the literal king of New York for ever but like, my 70 year old aunt knows who Wemby is at this point

162

u/BigFatModeraterFupa Minneapolis Lakers May 31 '26

100%.

It's already Wemby's Era and to be honest i think it's already pretty damn cool. He's just the one to take up the new mantle as "The One", that the NBA has uniquely had for the last 4+ decades.

Basically the main character of the NBA, the same way Lebron, Kobe, Michael Jordan, Bird & Magic etc. Very very cool to be witnessing this happen live

78

u/ElocFresh8224 Spurs May 31 '26

This is so well said. We are watching Wemby become the NBA’s main character.

72

u/BigFatModeraterFupa Minneapolis Lakers May 31 '26

He's just "The ONE". idk how to even explain it. i'm just naturally drawn to watching him even thought i haven't really closely followed him since a rookie the same way i have with my favorite player.

Wemby is just the One. The Guy. I want to see him win for some reason it's like he's magnetically attracting attention and awe. Blessed with all the physical gifts AND he's developed his own super powerful mental gifts. He's just the One!

130

As amazing as Wemby has been this series, I'm almost more impressed with the rest of this team. Every single one of them overachieved, and they all seem so well connected and coordinated on both ends.

Harper has probably been the most impressive, rookies are not supposed to be this solid in the playoffs. He behaves like as much of a level-headed veteran presence as Fox and Barnes, seen him prevent Castle from getting a tech on multiple occasions. Amazing that he was only considered maybe the 4th best rookie in the league this season.

148

Everyone said this year was to get playoff experience for this young team and they’re still 2-3 years away from being a championship contender. Now they in the Finals. Go Spurs Go

u/Shenanigans80h Nuggets May 31 '26

For what it’s worth I think most people, even some Spurs fans vastly underestimated how fast the rest of your core would grow up in these playoffs. It’s been damn impressive that it’s so much than just Wemby

36

u/Piats99 Spurs May 31 '26

Noone expected Harper and Kornet to be this good as subs and noone expected Keldon Johnson and Vassell to adapt so fast to their new roles.

Mitch Johnson was good last year, but with Pop's situation this was basically in his true first season and Sean Sweeney put up a defensive masterclass as an assistant; so, another 2 unpredictable feats.

In think the only given points were Wemby and Castle's growth.

It’s understandable. Your fan base has a notably tortured history. Enjoy this rare run of success.

u/cpt_america27 Spurs May 31 '26

Hey man it was a long 7 years. You think it was fun last few years.? Watching a fun KJ and Vassel lead this team? Getting the number 1 pick? Watching Wemby become one of the best players in the world over the last few years....what was my point?

Alot of people don't understand but HEB is the best grocery store on the fucking planet. After moving away from Texas, my wife and I will randomly talk about how awesome HEB is.

I thought it was incredible when they started offering Prime beef, but now they have Wagyu, and mine even carries honest to god japanese A5 Kobe beef semi-regularly. Sometimes they even have fresh truffles

Watching Wemby like that also made me cry. I had one of the hardest years of my personal life, but this team was always there.

Their games and their spirit have me inspiration. It gave me a small bit of happiness in a hard year. Ty so much. I love this team so much.

GG man, whatever you're going through I'm glad you have this amazing team to watch. Wemby is a nightmare to play against but a joy to watch as a neutral, and seems like a good dude.

Good luck in the finals

good thing for thunder fans you have a million draft picks to give and ship chet to Milwaukee to get Giannis. Chet only played 1 quarter up to his standard this series , the 1st quarter of game 5 , the rest of his performances are putrid
