Glorious Citizens of the People's Repblic of /r/mwo, rejoice!
The Free Market has failed, and we have achieved Full Communism! This means new rules!
All former rules remain in place, but to remind you:
Site-wide rules still apply, see here for more: https://www.reddit.com/help/contentpolicy/
In particular: No doxxing each other, you shitlords. Don't even try it. We don't care if you are wrong.
The rule about making a mod laugh in your report and getting the reported poster a one day ban is cool and good.
Account selling is still fine here. On your head be it if PGI catch you. Caveat Emptor.
Finally, due to excessive toxicity from some unfunny bads over the last few days, we are adding rules similar to the card game which sounds like it is derived from Chairman Mao's name, but isn't (it's a happy coincidence though).
IE: "this is the only rule that I can tell you".
Happy posting, Citizens!

Hey MechWarrior Pilots!
I run https://clanfinder.gg/ where you can advertise your MechWarrior units for free.
Our goal at ClanFinder.gg is to make it easier to advertise your community and for potential members to find communities, no matter what game they play.
We previously teamed up with r/GTAOnline, so crews and potential members had one centralized place to go. While I don't personally play GTA, I do play MWO and MechWarrior 5, so I took the liberty of adding those titles to the site as well.
It costs nothing to create your community page and start advertising on the site.
If you do want to stand out amongst the crowd their are ways to boost your community page, where I am happy to report we donate 30% of all revenue to Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, All Hands and Hearts and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Lastly, we are very active on the site, so if there are older versions of MechWarrior that your group plays or any other title for that matter that you'd like to see an option for, we can easily add them for you.

Hi guys,
I have been into Battletech since playing Mechwarrior 2 back in 1995. I got into Mech Warrior Online a few years ago after finally getting a better PC. I like watching various MWO content creators and thought I would start adding my own game play videos. I wanted to do something different so I will be only playing stock mechs. Maybe you will find it as entertaining as I do.
Feedback is appreciated as well!
Cheers

Hey peeps, I've been trying to buy and master all the Hunchback variants since it's my favorite mech but I'm kinda stuck on the 4J.
I'm definitely a brawler by trade and love a good scrap with assault mechs in the 4SP or 4G but I wanted to challenge myself by using LRMs... It hasn't been going very well and it really feels like I lose ranking every time I drive this thing. The only time I do any real damage or get kills is when I charge in with the 6 small lasers.
I'd like to hear any feedback from you all for lRM play or just how to run this kind of mech. I'm trying to go for a Calvary Archer style role that mixes scouting with second line fighting but I can accept if that's not the right play here.
Pros so far: I'm usually one of the fastest mechs on the team and the LRMs help me figure out where people are by dead firing them somewhere then seeing if someone's AMS goes off. It's still a Hunchback so brawling with 6 small lasers is doable with such a speedy build.
Negatives: LRMs are painful to use. I mostly have to take a few shots just to get my own lock especially with tag since the head mount is on the opposite side of the hunch, I hate having a separate button just for tag if I bring one and I only do damage when I suppress someone with volleys or deadfire them at mechs.
I do have a 40 MRM build which is much better (only reason why I have so many skills) but I figured that it was kinda cheating me out of the 4J experience. Any thoughts and tips would be appreciated!

Heya, as you can all read, I'm very new to MWO, been loving the lore, downloaded the game, had a few good games, but its generally been... rough.
I've been really liking the trial dire wolf- and I bought a Stone Rhino bc its one of my favourite mechs design wise... my SR 2 has never survived a single battle. It runs too hot, and seems so fragile compared to other assault mechs.
But enough about that, I've been wondering about a few mechs/builds.
I've been really wanting to build a HAG boat, HAG 40's, perhaps? I was looking into fitting them into a Kodiak, but idk how good that is.
I really do love the LB 10's, any mechs that can fit a fair amount of them in? The dire wolf was great, but the look of it is... mediocre
The fafnir looks really cool- what's the best variant/build for it.
Anyone able to un-fuck my stone rhino build? (its the attached image)

tl;dr: I made a new account to finally learn light mech gameplay, any tips, pointers, war stories, recommendations, encouragement welcome.
I've been playing for a bit (2+ years or so?), got into tier 2 and stabilized there for a while. I mostly played heavies and assaults, some mediums mixed in. Whenever I did try out light mechs, it seemed daunting:
- positional and tactical decision-making mistakes are punished much, much more harshly than in a mech that can actually take a few hits and get back into cover,
- you can't really engage in trading: if you trade, you almost always trade down due to lack of armor and punch,
- on a related note, your alpha is typically low, making hit-and-fade attacks and the typical peeking gameplay result in low overall damage numbers unless the game goes long,
- I'm nearing 50 and have never been good at twitch gameplay even at 20. I'm not a shooter guy, I like CRPGs and (turn-based) strategy games when I don't play big stompy robots.
Still, it seemed a shame to completely miss out on a kind of gameplay that many people find very rewarding. So to give myself a blank slate and really push myself to stick to light mechs (instead of relapsing to a beloved Marauder after a bad game or three), I created a new account, played the tutorial, and bought my first two light mechs.
[Truth be told, I also felt even more daunted by the idea of going up against top-tier players while being effectively a complete noob at the game when piloting lights, so a restart at tier 5 seemed like a more forgiving way of easing into things]
I'm running a Mist Lynx-G and a Piranha-1, so I can switch to another mech with similar style whenever I get killed early (which happens a lot). I now have ~35 games in those two guys, have fully skilled up the Mist Lynx (which I prefer due to the ridiculous jumping capability), while only having ~15 skill points in the Piranha (which I dislike for its restrictively tiny cockpit window).
Both mechs run the max amount of heavy MGs plus some ER Smalls; I've experimented with ER Mediums alongside light MGs for more of a skirmisher/flanker role, and that seemed to work nicely, too, but I seem to prefer the dps of the true knifefighting style more.
I've had some games where I did 700, 800, even 900 damage! I've had several where I got 3 or 4 kills! Those were amazing. It was in only my 4th match, still using the trial mech Mist Lynx, that I solo killed 3 mechs, all of them lurm boats that were hanging back and were utterly helpless against my little anklebiter. That felt incredible. I'm very glad that this game came so early in my run, it was the point where I first truly 'got' what it was all about.
But overall, it's been a challenge. I'd consider my map knowledge good overall, but with a light mech, you're much faster and get places more quickly, so combat situations are very different from what I had learned to expect in heavier, slower mechs. The speed has been actively detrimental in many games, when I was overeager and bit off far more than I could chew. And I can't usually engage in trading (see above).
I've noticed that I would very much like to have ECM on these guys. Getting into a flanking position is hard on some maps. My worst enemy are often lockon missiles, even with full radar deprivation.
The jumpjets on the Mist Lynx are insane. Something with the physics engine feels off, the mech is extremely... 'floaty'? It stays in the air much longer than you'd expect 25 tons of metal with no wings and little forward momentum to. And I sometimes ramp off terrain, catapulting me skywards much, much higher than I could jump on my own power, what is up with that?!
The dps of both mechs feels very satisfying. You can really chew through some big mech's legs, or sometimes even the torsos, while running circles around them.
Questions for you good people of the internet:
What are good gameplay styles besides knifefighter? For example, I think I'd struggle to put up good damage numbers with just 5 ERMLs (and the commensurate heat gen), but GrimMech has that as one common build for the Mist Lynx. And I think that sniping with two ER Larges or something like that would not really play to a light and mobile mech's strengths. Am I wrong about those things?
What are your favorite light mechs? What do you like about them, what sets them apart?
What's important to cover in the skill tree? I've maxed survivability and mobility alongside consumables and a bit of heat management; what else is good that I've never looked into? What consumables do you like to run?
What are your favorite spots on the most common maps, what can you do there as a light mech?
And how the fuck do you learn the patience and wisdom to pick your engagements in a way that lets you survive until late game?!

Recently changed my name in game and it reset all my weapon groups on all my mechs and changed all my video settings to default (knew that would happen). However, now when I’m in the mechlab, when I scroll over anything currently attached on my mech (weapons, heat sinks, ammo, etc.) the info/stats screen down not pop up. I do not know what caused this and can’t seem to find a fix. Has anyone else encountered this or am I just blind and missing a key setting to toggle that back on?

A quick rundown of my best Mechs from many years of fun with this game. A remake with modern graphics would be an absolute dream, but either way this game still going hard after 13 years.

Hi everyone- recently downloaded Mech Warrior Online. I have some light experience with mech warriors in general (mercenaries), but still pretty fresh all things considered.
I’m so overwhelmed by all the variants and options presented to me, and it’s not really clear what I should actually be purchasing and equipping.
Specifically, I love the idea of stealth armor and smaller and faster mechs. The Locust was my first choice, but it seems like the only stealth armor option is a Monetary purchase unfortunately. I actually bought another Locust and then discovered I couldn’t equip stealth armor to it.
Any guides or videos I could watch so I could learn about my options and make an informed choice? I don’t want to just take someone else’s build and run it, but in terms of weapons and overall build structure I barely know where to start.
Thank you!

I hear that this is a mod, but I'm not sure where to get the files and how to install them. Can anyone provide some advice/links?
