The Invite (2026): 3/5
Could’ve benefited from less dialogue. Felt written, if that makes sense. Really good acting, though. It also had some very funny moments.

I’m a bit of a sucker for a “could be a play” movie, despite not really attending much theater.

Same! Not really fan of a theatre either but I like that in a movie. I think what it is, for me, is the simplicity of those kinds of movies. The removal of the frills. Jack white has this quote that I love: “if you have all the colours of the pallet it kills creativity”. When you remove all the complications and give all your efforts to the acting and the dialogue and restrict yourself and have a clear and simple box and perimeters it forces you to get creative. And i feel if it’s done well, and the pacing happens, I love that. I think that people like cassavettes are popular for a reason. So simple but so profound. With the invite, I thought everyone brought there game and they did such a good job and making the characters grounded and real and distinct and clear. They also did such a good job of balancing, humour, vulnerability, anxiety. I was so suprised by this movie. I’ll have to give it a second watch but the first one really blew me away

I thought this was pretty good. Definitely hit some of the complexities of relationships right on the head.

i enjoyed, it it wasn't really funny but it wasn't boring and I don't understand the huge praise from the critics

Was Seth Rogan 'Seth Rogan' in it?

He only does his stoner laugh once.
Not a huge fan of Seth Rogan, but I thought he was great in this alongside the other 3.

Great casting. I thought it was a very good "single location" film.
I think the dialogue was the movie so I'm not sure what you'd replace it with

If it had less dialogue, what would it even be? The whole movie is just people talking in one room

Is this basically a Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? type movie? Wylde is sketchy, but I've heard decent reviews.
