Nah bad stator won't damage RR, just won't provide enough power to charge battery. Best to measure 1st before replacing anything. Replacing perfectly-working RR with brand-new perfectly-working RR is complete waste of time & money that didn't fix real problem.

Makes sense, I’m hoping to get somebody to check the stator this weekend before ordering a new one of those, fairly new to bikes so wouldn’t be trying to mess with the electronics myself

very easy to test stator. Charge up battery fully so engine can run off battery-only for 5-min while you test stator. Follow this test-procedure:
